Depends on the context of the scene. Mary Poppins has cartoons integrated into it because it’s supposed to, which makes it “realistic” for the movie. The limits of movies are set by the creator and the creator’s wish for how the story is told.

You guys are reading my mind! I am shooting a short horror tomorrow and I was going to do some photoshopping to replace half an actors face for the final scene, but now I am going to give this face tracking feature a go instead as I've already created a cool AI face that I would love to use in the film - I'll keep you posted on how it works out! you should photoshop a few keyframes and use ebSynth instead. Then lighting and blinking and stuff will match. They've got a tutorial on how to use ebSynth on this channel - for the old man effect but you can use it for anything. I've used it in a few videos - its free ;)

Couldn’t help but notice the animated selfie never opens its mouth. Obviously you would have to generate teeth & other things but are you able to “cut” the selfie layer to create an openable mouth within Ae? How would that work?

I think you can swap faces, but with some restrictions. If you have a higher budget I would go for EbSynth or maybe even Deepfaking the two faces🤔

You could also use Adobe Animate as well. It’s more intuitive to setup and you can do all the performance live
