Fun fact. Original AI work still better quality, better style, coloring and proportions than 75% of "F AI" works from real artists. The only thing i liked from video is animation, Pomni (Jax looks bad), Minecraft kinda 50/50, Courage is cool, but it's not like drawing itself somehow hard - its easy and flat and Gumball. use AI purely as a tool I save time on repetitive tasks using AI, and when I find brainstorming stuff for a game difficult, I go straight to chatGPT and ask it something like “Hey, make me a name for a game where you [insert concept of the game here]”. And boom, while a lot of names I may not like the idea of using, there’s usually one I like, or it gives me an idea for the name of the game that the AI didn’t provide (this is just one example) AI is incredibly useful, but don’t make it do things for you, people will hate you for that! And it might not even get everything right..

Except that ai painting is better. Just ask any unbiased artist.

​@Sadening Because ironically true AI would be much harder to make for manual labour and number jobs like accounting. Art (on the internet at least) is a visual only medium (without sensitive calculations or fine motor skills needed) , so it is actually the more accessible place to develop AI (although what we have right now is more of an image generator.) When AI reaches the point that it can do menial chores without suddenly exploding or burning down the house, it'll already be niched within art as one of those micro-genres like Performance Art or Hyperrealism

We don't necessarily have to get permission to view someone's work if it's publicly available, but at the same time since it was trained that way its really hard to set a moral standard. It feels so grey, but I understand the exploitation aspect. Generative ai is still so new, take Chat GPT for example it does the same thing but with words. It's not necessarily interacting with you, rather generating a desired task through language rather than visual art. It learned how to use grammar, word play, lyric writing. If we look at this type of ai the same way, that means it would be doing the same thing you explained about visual art ai models. If the outcome is so different than any existing art then I wouldn't consider it not valid. Ai is only a tool and like all art, it takes creativity to produce better results. It all depends on the artist's skills with the media, or ai.

Because a lot of AI is trained on stolen art work. The AI then just takes pieces of that stolen art and mashes it together with other stolen art to make "new" art. But its not new art, just a chimera of stolen art played off as "new." And this person is then selling that art, which is essentially selling pieces of stolen art.

Every single artist draws using the database that is their brain, stock full of other past artists’ styles. The difference is purely that someone coded the ai to combine them, while you learned to do it over at least a day. Edit; this comes from someone who draws for himself.

@@campbellhansen7533 I think another difference is that humans can create art even if it never existed but a machine can't. Another issue is how easy it is to generate ai images. It takes an artist years of dedication to learn how to do it but with a machine it just becomes obsolete... If it ever gets to the point that ai would be able to generate any style in the quality a user wants then most artists would probably lose their jobs. So honestly it doesn't feel fair and it probably never will. Why learn to create art when a machine can just generate it for you. (I have a friend who wants to be an animator but is stuck between choosing german or animation as their major since they might not be able to find a job in the future simply cause a machine can do it too.) That and the issue that ai uses copyrighted material too (idk if it changed or not haven't been keeping up)

Stealing implies it took something and the original owner does not have it anymore, but in reality it just copied an image found on the internet that was easily available to it. That's something photo editors usually do as well if they are creating something from scratch as it is often protected if used in a way which makes it unrecognizable or heavily changes the original piece it was taken from. It's also something humans do to learn. I wouldn't call AI generation art until a human has had significant involvement in the finished product. I do agree though that it is a bit shady for AI gen with datasets based off of copyrighted material found online to be making money off of AI gen.

@@endergames1099 yeah the skill set is very different. Regular art is a harder skill to learn, I think its pretty safe to say that, but difficulty doesn't make art art. Really art is about expression, and expressing yourself in prompts is also a form of expression. I don't really use AI for full artworks, but I love it as a part of the process. Like the best painting I ever did was started with a broken ai generation that kinda looked cool.
