Skeet Ulrich and Neve Campbell met while filming this movie and when Wes Craven asked her to audition for Sidney, she refused because she didn't want to do another horror movie so soon after The Craft, Skeet then reached out to her and told her he was involved too and convinced her to audition for Scream 🥰

It's very ironic that this and Scream were both released in 1996, with The Craft being released in May and Scream being released about five days before Christmas in December.

They all didn't lose their powers. They were leeching Sarah's power. The other three had no power of their own at any point. That's why nothing they did worked until she showed up. So, when they turned on her, they got cut off. No more leeching. But what they DID manage was to fully wake up Sarah to her own power. It was a pretty dumb move to try killing the one person who was the reason they had all that power they abused. But I don't think they knew they were leeching off of her.

They got high on the magic and thought that meant they had the power and the right to do anything to anyone - the older witch from the store tried to warn all of them but they wouldn't listen. I think that happens a lot in stories about various kinds of magic, messing with spells they think they're powerful enough to control when actually they don't, and learn the hard way that they're not as skilled as they think they are.

You would think that at least one of them - maybe not Nancy, because she was pretty well borked in the head - had realized, "Hey, we were nothing before she came along. And if we kill her, we might go right back to being nothing. So how about if we all sit down, cool our heads and talk through this disagreement of ours?" I wonder why that scene with Sarah, Bonnie and Rochelle talking about Nancy going mad with power only for Nancy to show up at that very moment, berate the hell out of Bonnie and Rochelle and intimidate them into turning against Sarah got left on the cutting room floor. That scene explains *_so_* much! It should have been left in the final release!

at least she got some humility - at that party when she was wearing an obvious and frankly terrible wig and was trying to be polite to Rochelle, asking 'how are you?' and stuff like that. Though it was definitely a case of too little too late. Here's hoping at some point she'll have enough humility to actually apologise to Rochelle, though I know that that would also be a case of too little too latte.

Both Sidney and Billy Loomis were in this the same year Scream came out but it was released before Scream. If Scream came out a year before The Craft, boffum would be the leads in this one. They did Rachel True so wrong during the release of this movie. She wasn’t invited to any of the awards show, she was ignored during the press junkets and promotional spots on tv. But the other three leads stepped up and said all of us or nothing. It’s a shame because Rachel True always has been fine to me, she was the sister Mona in Half and Half.

15:35 There's a deleted scene that's supposed to take place after we see Bonnie asking Manon to take her scars while Nancy tending to her back. In the deleted scene she asks Sarah for help specifically and Sarah does something with various herbs including sage, supposed to indicate once again that she was the only natural witch among them, hat she was the one who healed the scars because Manon favoured her. If they had kept it it would've been a particularly backstabbing character development for Bonnie.

I’ve said for years that The Craft is the original Mean Girls. Group of 3 looking for a new member. The leader who thinks she’s above everyone else and has insane jealously and wants to hurt people. The quiet subservient one who wants to make the leader happy. The one who is a freethinker but stays in the group so she won’t be alone. The new girl who bonds too quickly, gets the guy, turns on the leader…ya know. Lol. The Craft is Mean Girls before Mean Girls was Mean Girls. Lol.

My friends and I were so deep into our Wicca phase when this movie came out. I had SO. MANY. witchcraft books. I kinda wish I still had them just for posterity's sake (still have Uncle Bucky's Big Blue Book...if you know, you know). I remember reading a review of this in a Wicca publication at the time and the reviewer said they liked that the witches weren't all portrayed as evil- that instead of the normies fighting the scary witch, it was Sarah (with Lirio's help), a good witch, trying to stop other witches who were drunk on power. Also, at the end of the movie, it wasn't that only Sarah was allowed to keep her powers, it was that the others never had any to begin with. They couldn't do real spellwork until they brought Sarah into the circle. All of the spells they were then able to do were because in the circle, they could draw on Sarah's innate gift to have their will be done. That's why they were left powerless in the end- the circle was broken and they had to go back to "normal". The movie doesn't state that outright, but it's very heavily implied, especially through Sarah's conversation in the beginning with Lirio in her shop. This movie speaks to all of us as women who are on the cusp of feeling their own adult power, no magic necessary. A perfect bookend after watching the truly excellent and universal Turning Red.

You should spend some time around them first in order to realize they have unique personalities and you will start to see them as you do any animal like dogs or cats. You don’t have to hold them if you don’t prefer and more often than not they prefer to be left alone. However if you want a connection to the earth you must understand the value and importance of all things, even ones that frighten you. It’s more a battle of conquering yourself. Take your time with them and they will teach you many things, draw from this strength. They will teach you the true meaning of survival, how to do it alone, how to overcome enemies twice your size and strength. Let them be your guides and you will not regret it.

Wiccan witch here. I was eight when this film came out, so I didn't grow up with it at the time, but it's an amazing snapshot of the era: The clothes, the music, the fact that being into any spiritual path other than Christianity was genuinely edgy, etc. I was raised Christian and didn't discover witchcraft until later (and thankfully, my family is accepting of my practice), but I wish I'd been into it back then and had been old enough to see this film in theaters. Seeing this re-watch I never noticed Billy Loomis was in this movie as well, nor that they were both released the same year!! The 90s fashions, especially the hair & make up in this movie, takes me back! Also I agree I couldn't see why it had to be they were fighting each other and couldn't support one another.

Your videos are my fave! I was so excited to see that The Craft was this week, I was 18 when this movie came out, and my friends and I were obsessed. We were all very into Wicca at the time, which I think was common for a teenage girl in the 90s. I always felt like they did Nancy dirty. Was she a little power hungry? Sure. But she got rid of her abusive stepfather and the guy who tried to assault her friend. Her heart was in the right place.

Charmed is what got me interested in witchcraft but The Craft is what got me to research Wicca and discover my religion. I love this movie. While over the top at times for cinema, it is one of the best representations of modern witchcraft. I absolutely loved your reaction. Made me smile so much. If you have never seen Practical Magic, or even if you did a while ago, I highly recommend that as your next reaction. It is probably the BEST WITCH MOVIE ever made.

This movie is up in my top 10 maybe even my top 5! Not only did Neve & Skeet kill it in 96 with the craft & scream but this movie opened my eyes to soooo much. I was 4 when it came out so at that age I didn’t understand all of the undertones to the movie but as I grew up it was a great coming of age film for me! Definitely got me interested in magic , something I’m still really interested in but never really known where to start looking 😂 such a classic film! 🖤

I remembered reading about weird things happening behind the scenes, especially during the "Calling of the Corners scene when the girls have assembled on the beach to recite their incantation, the ocean waves kept putting out the fire they had made. This happened despite the park ranger having said the tide would not come in.
