Yep, like Atlanta getting a team twice :) Maybe the 3rd time will be the charm. Atlanta is making a third bid to land an NHL team. Carter announced Tuesday, March 12, 2024, he's heading a group that made a formal request to the league to begin the process of adding an expansion team in metro
@FischerFan
@FischerFan Ай бұрын
@@Statsy10 On that note, his biggest regret SHOULD BE coming out of the 1994-95 lockout without a salary cap. Winnipeg's owner at the time, Barry Shenkarow, was one of the last owners fighting for a salary cap. When they failed to bring salaries under control, it was the death knell for three teams and could've easily been for more of them. This is why, a decade later, Bettman knew they had to get a cap in place. Nearly two-thirds of the League's teams were losing money and teams like Buffalo could easily have folded. Now that Winnipeg has a billionaire owner, all is stable in the market. One may ask where this group was in 1995, but the reality is they were wise to get out of the League until it found a way to stabilize itself economically.
@FischerFan

I feel like Salt Lake City would be a great location, I feel it could be very unique and interesting, and I could possibly see Vegas VS Salt Lake City rivalry which could be cool, Ive always wanted the Coyotes to relocate because it was never good hockey market and was probably the worst run team in the league, so if they do end up relocating to Salt Lake I would like to see how that would play out.

Bettman just won't let this hockey in Phoenix issue go. It is clear he wants the Coyotes to leave then bring in an "expansion" team there with the most crazy rigged expansion draft you could possibly think of. Something like each team would only be able to protect 2-3 players. This would ensure that the new team could challenge for the Cup right from the start. Then Bettman would say he was right all along about the market there.🙄

In my opinion, this NEEDS to happen. They didn't even sell out the game against Vegas...need I repeat, THEY DID NOT SELL OUT A GAME IN A 4600 SEAT ARENA! Arizona does not want to watch this team, and to the loyal fans I feel bad, but the overwhelming population clearly is not interested. It sucks, but it needs to happen, or everyone will continue losing money. If the arena gets approved and they come back as an expansion team down the road I'm all for it, as long as the fanbase is large enough there.

There’s a lot of reasons why the Coyotes are likely to leave Arizona. Their relationship with the city of Glendale AZ went to shit because they weren’t paying the rent for Gila River Arena. Someone wasn’t willing to own the franchise long term. And the biggest reason is because they didn’t win consistently. If you don’t win consistently, no one is going to pay their hard earned money to go to the games. They had to rebuild a rebuild.

Dont know what to think of this, to be honest. I feel like Arizona just doesnt have enough of a market to be able to sell out a 15000 arena, for example. But still, I do feel bad for the Yotes fanbase cause theyre losing their team. I also dont understand how popular hockey is in Utah, and how that might also end up being unsuccessful

Would they be Utah or Salt Lake City? Salt Lake City Sting. Utah Mormons. Utah Jazz 2: Step Brothers on Ice. Utah Rockies, piss off the neighbors. Salt Lake City or Utah Swarm. Elks. Which, just no. Most forest and wildlife related names you could think of for Minnesota or Seattle. ie Utah Evergreens or something. My personal favourite the Utah Master Blasters. The legit guess though, which holds not only tradition, but actually might make more sense in this case….the Utah Coyotes. I mean I’m assuming there’s coyotes in Utah somewhere, plus the Utah Jazz made infinitely less sense than the Utah Coyotes and they’ve never changed the name.

Man, coyotes have been stockpiling picks and prospects and are close to breaking out… just in time to move to Utah. That sucks for coyotes fans. Also, used to live in Utah. I think hockey will be great there. They only have a basketball team right now and it’s a growing winter area. There should be a lot of support, especially for a young up and coming team. As for the team name, no clue. They’ve had a couple minor league teams in the past (and if you want some fun, look at all the current NHL coaches who played for the Salt Lake Golden Eagles), but they usually never use recycled names.

I don’t know why the NHL commissioner is so anti-Houston. It’s a huge market with a lot more corporate sponsors than SLC. There is a lot more money in Houston.

The NHL doesn't just give franchises away. There needs to actually be a person or corporation in Houston with the billion dollars to buy and run one. Does Houston have that?

@@mrquirky3626actually they do have one! The owner of the Houston Rockets! He has had several meetings with the NHL commissioner. If the NHL really wants to major market they would go to Houston. Be weary with expansions. For every Vegas Expansion, there are a dozen Seattles. We want the Thrashers back, but when the expansion draft does happen we want there to be a 5 year gap between us and the last expansion, lest the talent pool be diluted.
