This Atari 2600 Junior has been through a lot. Purchased as not working way back in 2011, it's had all three IC's and the capacitors replaced, the Select/Reset buttons replaced with physical switches and a composite mod.
Well, the composite mod has stopped working (surprise, surprise) so in a first for Sunday Quickie, I'm going to use that video format to repair the 2600 Jr. and get it back to working condition.

In my collecting experience I have seen a lot of Target price stickers on the carts like that, especially Sega Master System games. Not sure why they were doing that but it seems to be a common practice for them at that time. Great video. I want to get into soldering and repairs.

Hopefully they weren't disposing of the boxes and selling the carts individually...

This is one of the many reasons I prefer emulators. The Stella 2600 emulator is excellent. And for people that aren't going to use a CRT, I see even far less reasons to use hardware, but I use Stella with a CRT. Also remember, the 2600 Jr was a product of Jack T, formerly of Commodore. It's not from what used to be the real Atari. Most anything Jack sold was done of the cheapest parts possible, and not built to last.

Nice to see the 2600 Jr. again (even though just because it was broken). Glad it was just a minor issue. Your video about repairing and modding the console helped me massively when I repaired and modded my own 2600 Jr. back then. I went with the Binary-6 PCB which is soldered to the underside of the board and used a Raspberry Pi 4-pole A/V jack instead of 3x Cinch.

That's good to hear. The 4-pole jack is a good idea too, as long as you don't get it confused with the power jack! Haha

Great to see it working again. Re the controllers, I use flashbacks on my junior, light sixer, and even on my Amigas. The pins are the same. It's tight because it's a new controller rather than a worn out old one is all :). Those bigger holes in your original are not normal. Someone's got bored and shoved something in them at some point in it's long life.

Good to hear. There are two or three other projects off the top of my head that would be perfect for the video format.

I wouldn’t be surprised that once you plugged in tose flashback controllers on the atari 2600 jr, that it cause a shortage in the curuitboard because of the extra pins it may use for it’s extra buttons wich the atari 2600 obviously doesn’t support and some pins maybe reversed, that’s why it is adviced to not use controllers ment for another system to be plugged in a atari 2600 due the different pin layouts.

In this Av mode that you installed on Atari, is there a need to remove the part from the device board?
@intel386DX
@intel386DX 23 күн бұрын
No. This AV mod is great, becouse no need to remove any parts, and the RF can be used as well. Just keep in mind that NTSC version needs different resistor values, those in the guide are for PAL models.
