Wrote lyrics to this song in a notebook in high-school. Forgot in classroom and next day had to talk to the counselor because they thought I wrote it as a poem and was suicidal. But in their defense my father had just passed away a month or so before I wrote it down.

@@ThrillhoWiggum No. Anybody that has ever fought depression and suicide doesn't feel alone when they listen to this song, or songs like it. When I was riding with a friend, he just got a new system in his car. He wasn't into this kind of music but I told him just give it a chance. I played this song. Halfway into it, he had the volume cranked up to 80 & I could see he was holding back tears. When it was over he kept rubbing his eyes & I had goosebumps on my arms still. I got to hear most of the song at over 1,200 watts full range lol. He got hyped af to hear more, I let him have the album.

Such a beautiful song with such sad lyrics. Classical music with distorted guitars is how my grandma described it when I was s kid, when this came out. Haha. she was pretty close to right. Of course then she said turn it down, she was cool but still old. Miss you grandma.

Since you the S&M squad, it is almost necessary for you to react to something from Metallica's S&M concerts *Symphony and Metallica* It makes their music even more epic when played with a full orchestra. The Outlaw Torn, No Leaf Clover, Hero of the Day - hell any of them.

My father asked me "are you sure you want that and not a other guitar hero game?" Because he know the Band and lyrics. English is my second language so i did not understand any word they say at that age on All there songs, but i really loved it and fade to Black was by far my favorite song because it Sound so happy, i through it is a happy song. Then i forgot the Band a bit and around 8-10 years late i discovered it again and listened to it very close, i was like wtf are these lyrics that song always Sound so happy to me xD Now i understand why my dad ask me if i really want that, but im not regret it, its an awesome band for sure

For me, Metallica were one of several bands who defined my generation. If you are minded to do so, dig out Living Colour- Cult of Personality. A band who made me view things differently (and still do), a band who challenged the perceived reality of the USA particularly and who are as relevant today and there were in the '80s. Love your reactions

Amazing reaction to an amazing song, from one of the most amazing bands thats ever been. Im glad that you guys understood the meaning and the depth of the song. This song is what really got me into Metallica, cause it came out when I was in tenth grade and I was into shit like Motley Crue and Ratt and stuff. My buddy in my book keeping class loaned me his copy of the "Ride the Lightning" album, and at first i didnt really like it, until this song came on, and I was just mesmerized by the musical and lyrics, that I went out and bought the cassette myself the next day. Thats where my journey began with them, and Im a huge fan still today. Ive been fortunate enough to have seen them live several times, and there's nothing like a Metallica concert...
