First time I heard 'Vicarious' by Tool, I was in shock! The first time I saw them play 'Vicarious' in concert, I was literally like... "What the hell???" 😲 When the breakdown came in w/ the drums and bass, a huge muscular fella wearing a Mexican wrestling mask came on stage wearing a tutu and started twirling around like a ballerina to the rhythm of the song 🤣 One of those moments I went, "Did I just see that?"

I'm so happy you did this one. This song was such a pivotal moment in my musical life that I remember the first time I heard it in 2006. Up until that point I had heard of Tool but never heard anything from them. When it came on the radio in Philly, I was so mesmerized by the intro with the weaving of the masterful bass and guitar and then bam right in my face. All I could think after hearing it was God Damn have I been missing out and I just had to hear more. Great band!

Yes- Tool is more of an experience than a band. I've watched (and continue to watch) all your Tool reactions and you are why I love reaction videos; I've watched dozens of other Tool reactions but you are my favorite. Your potent enthusiasm is contagious; I am living vicariously (pun intended), through you that brings me back to the first time I heard this song. I know you feel things more deeply/intensely than most people. But that is precisely why your reactions are so good. You are very insightful, in ways I am not and that blends well with your technical knowledge. Thank you for letting us share this with you; thank you for your time and effort that you put in as well. Continue to Spiral Out...

One of the more amazing things about Tool from a lyrics standpoint, is that you don't have to know the meaning behind a song to find deep meaning, and you can read the lyrics right off a page and think you know - but then when you listen to the song you will be quite unsure. It's partly the sound making you read further into it, but even all combined, you can find a handful of tool fans in any given group, where if they have NOT read the artist's intent behind the lyrics, you can have every one of them take something different from the songs - at least partially different. That's the mark of genius! Tool really are something special. Always will be, in my mind.

"The universe is hostile, so impersonal" - what a line ♡ × ∞ Tool recommendations: Always thought their song Reflection off the Lateralus album was a great depiction of depression. Also, their latest re-recording of their old song Opiate titled Opiate² is also highly recommendable.

@@garri5108 Ah yes, the good old "the thing I like more is better and if you don't like it you suck"-argument. Well played. I enjoy Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd et al, but Tool just does it more for me. They do blow me away a lot more. And I got 4 or 5 albums that I regularly listen to from tool, so.. yeah, I enjoy them more. Glad you enjoy 70s prog more, good for you.
@garri5108

@@waschkarte3989 Pink Floyd is overrated just as Tool. Listen to Genesis Selling England or Foxtrot album, listen to Yes Close To The Edge album, Mike Oldfiled's Ommadawn or Tubular Bells for Christ sake. No, It's not matter of taste. Objectively Tool is weaker by any measure than thousands of prog rock bands, at the same time Tool fans who too lazy to listen other music threat this band like they are some geniuses from other planet. Drummer is good, don't get me wrong, but he is not that genius as everyone says. Phil Collin washing him at any prog Genesis song, and I'm not talking about technical aspect, but about musical richness in drum part choices. Or listen To Tigran Hamasyan, I know it's fusion-jazz-djent, but if you want really crazy time signatures and song structure than it's way to go. No offence but it's really sad when people don't want to listen far more rich, interesting and talented music, obsessing over one band they thought was amazing a hundred years ago and ignorance keeps them from opening their eyes on the world of music.
@Mxulin
@Mxulin Жыл бұрын
@@garri5108 Yk I can agree that there is more technically good and complex prog out there, but once it gets too technical it loses its soul and passion and becomes a snoozefest. For example the Close to the Edge album. Musically its amazing but I'm bored with it. Never bored with Tool. Prog isn't my main thing, which is why I love PF and Tool but not Yes or Genesis. I think its the same for other people. And Danny is the most amazing alt metal / prog metal drummer to my taste, yet to find someone match the intensity on songs like Pneuma.

I really loved your reaction to this song. It’s one of Tool’s more intense songs, especially as it is so complex musically. It’s thought-provoking and never lets you settle. It’s rare that a band can consistently churn out songs that are both instantly catchy and yet still fascinating even when you’ve heard them a hundred times or more, because each time you listen to them you find something new and amazing in them. In fact, I’d say Tool are unique in being able to create songs of this quality over and over again throughout their 20+ year history.

15:22 Aye, I love the way he does that, like it starts to pick up and like it’s leading somewhere; anticipation. Tension and release is absolutely fundamental to music, setup and payoff kinda thing. TOOL can't be compared with other bands,thats for sure!One of the most talented bands ever!!! I would like to draw attention to the band Nevermore!It's a very underrated progressive Metal band with one of the best guitarists of the world (Jeff Loomis,who also did most of the lyrics and plays now with Arch Enemy since Nevermore split up) and an amazing singer (Warrel Dane who sadly died a few years ago)! Composition,lyrics,musicianship,storytelling...all outstandingly good. I'm sure you as a music lover would totaly enjoy it! I'm almost 50 now and a metalhead since I was 12,so I know what I'm talking about when it comes to metal! And Nevermore are one of the best bands I have ever heared! I would love to see you giving them a try, even if it's not the most known band out there!But their nickname 'the best band you've never heared from' comes not from nothing!Cause thats always what people say who listen to them the first time... 'This Godless Endeavor' or 'Sentient 6' would be great to react and analyze! Both masterpieces!

The entire 10,000 days album is a masterpiece. If you have not yet done so, go listen to each song in succession in a single sitting. I used to marathon every tool album in a single work day while doing industrial sandblasting, and it was one of the best times I've ever had. Every time. At least when I didn't accidentally slip and blast myself, haha. I would sandblast to the music - which... I don't even know how to describe, but it feels great. 10,000 days has since become my favorite of their albums - even greater than Lateralus, which I used to say would never happen.

Not only one of my favorite TOOL songs but one of my favorite songs of all time. I absolutely love the intro riff as it incorporates both the electric and bass guitars together to make one grand riff. Not to mention the lyrics are brilliant and I think they can also be interpreted in today's society with social media and violent videos.

Today’s Mainstream Media are out of control and liars, the all of the Alphabet Agencies need to be reined in as well. Why is Donald Trump being indicted on something all the previous Presidents did, as well as Hillary Clinton. Also Joe Biden caught in a Bribery incident with the Ukrainian Prosecutor that was looking into corruption. This World is a 🤡 World where Companies can’t get lines of credit without pushing an agenda. Also why are school Teachers so hellbent on bringing in weird Sexual stuff. Like the Teachers have no business knowing or talking casually about things like that especially in the Grades they are doing it in, and just in General. Why does a Teacher want to go there with Kids? Also pushing the narrative that there are so many Shootings in the USA. If you took out Police involved Shootings, and Suicide (you could even throw in Gang Violence) the USA wouldn’t even be in the top 150 Countries. And going back to Gang Violence where is BLM? 🦗You don’t see them marching in Chicago’s Southside. I don’t really care for any Political Party, but the lies are so blatant. Every Civil Rights bill had Republican Support it wasn’t the Demoncrats. The Demoncrats came into Poor Neighborhoods with that cash and made the Poor dependent on the Government. They didn’t help them. And my first Childhood Home was in a Trailerpark so don’t tell me I don’t know what it’s like. Now they are trying to normalize Pedo’s it’s really maddening seeing that I’ve had experience with that from a Female Babysitter when I was Young. The Government ruins everything, they need to be small and afraid of the citizens. That is what the 2nd Amendment is all about. As a Canadian don’t ever let them screw around with that (even though they do), a lot of crap needs to be stomped out. It’s like they pretend not to know what “Shall not be infringed” means. I wish I could move down there.

This was the third Tool song in Guitar Hero that was part of my first exposure to Tool, so it has some extra meaning to me. That opening section on guitar was so tricky for me. You've been doing a wide variety of things lately, good to see something I'm familiar with. I saw on your Twitch VOD yesterday that you did another Periphery song, Everything is Fine! But the audio got muted 😠I've accepted that we won't see your whole Periphery journey, but would you consider doing Reptile on KZfaq? It's a legendary 17 minute song that might push Periphery into your favorites.

7:20 Just for a bit of context - former drummer here 🙌🏼 - that was/is the snare and those chains under the snare you refer to are called “wire snares” :) 👌🏼 The snare sounds absolutely delightful! 🤤

Yeah its a snare, along with 47 others drums. Danny's drum kit is ridiculous. Even more ridiculous is how he uses the entire set seemingly so effortlessly. The man is 100% focused and in excellent shape, especially for a 50 some year old. These guys are absolutely amazing.

Lateralus was my favorite song until this one came out. I've never heard a song that lyrically struck a chord with me so hard before. Someone putting to words the way I felt. Absolute genius.
