Happy birthday Kurt. I'm a Wild Turkey guy myself. Last night I did a blind of W.T. 101, Old Forester 100, and Buffalo Trace. That is the order I would normally tell you I like best to least. Last night I really enjoyed the Buffalo Trace much more than the rest, and the W.T. 101 was my least. I was completely surprised. All that matters is build yourself a selection of bourbons you enjoy, and you will never have a bad pour. Doing blinds from time to time is not only fun but also a reminder how on any given day your pallet may be different from the last time.

It's a fairly regular thing for me when I'll want to sit down and have a pour, grab a bottle off the shelf that I think sounds good,take a sip of it and it just doesn't hit right for that point in time so I'll head back to the shelf and grab another. But on a different day that bottle hits just right. Definitely dependent on what I ate or drank or even where i was all day prior.

The issue with the Bakers 7 is each bottle is different with it being single barrel.. some I’ve had blow other bottles away

Maker's 46 Cask Strength is one of my favorite bourbons. And the nose is heavenly.

I lost my father during COVID and miss him greatly. He was a wild turkey fan from the old days when almost no one was a fan. 80s, 90s. Just the regular 80 proof stuff. Still have one of his bottles from the late 90s. Anyways. I love the channel. I think we should send you some of our better Canadian stuff for you to blind. Jeff, From Toronto

I did a three blind last night with RareBreed, OF 1920, and Boulder cask str. The two of us participating both selected the Boulder Cask strength over the other two. We were surprised, and the Boulder bourbon was awesome. Happy birth anniversary, Kurt.

it all comes down to personal preference as Kurt says. I have all 4 of those on my bar at all times and when in a blind Bakers 7 comes out on top for me followed by Rare Breed, then 1920 and Makers 46 in last. Love all of them, but something about Bakers just feels right with me. It's become my go to pour.

A nice video. Happy birthday! I would like to see a video exploring whether a bottle oxidizes over time. Same bottle, fresh open, couple months open, one year, 2 years. I think keeping bottles fresh makes a difference for me.

46 cask strength, rare breed, and either 1910 or 1920 were on my list of I start panicking when my last bottle is half full. I mean this is a heck of a list. I know in the past you have talked about this particular bottle of 1920 maybe not being up to par, I would encourage you to put a new bottle in the next tasting. I think all 3 of these I would pick on certain nights, but I am just surprised the 1920 was clearly third.

Trenton's Flavor Profile Challenge: You eat but dont swallow (so as to not get sick or hurt) all the edible/chewable items he's used to describe bourbon. Pencil shavings (the wood not the graphite), eraser, drywall, an old leather shoe, the sole of a sneaker, etc. PS Happy Birthday Kurt!!

Happy Birthday Kurt! Fun review again! I blinded these after the first video and came up with this order: Rare Breed, Baker’s 7, OF 1920, MM 46 cask. RB is just a great all around pour! B7 IMO is a really sweet crackerjack peanut, OF 1920 satisfying every time, and for me MM usually falls short and I don’t care for it other than BEP, BRT-01, and my store pick. I gave away my MM 46 regular and cask to a friend that loves it:) Cheers!

Hi! I found your channel a few weeks ago and LOVE watching the two of you. Kurt, you have a great way of sharing your love of cocktails and whiskey tasting. I also found The Bourbon Van at the beginning of December. I've been binge watching your channel from start to present. I've even made a friend with a local chain liquor store and was given her card. She helped me find some great bottles. I'm over east of South Bend and am working on finishing off my basement. My plan is to use repurposed cabinets from The Re-Store to build my bar. I love Scotch, Rye, and Irish whiskies. A: being Rare Breed, Kurt drinks it over ice, so neat would drink a bit hot. I like that you guys do this.

I just did the same lineup: 1920, rare breed, bakers, mm46 cask were my results. For some reason I never liked the mm 46 cask strength but I love the regular 46 which is odd. My girlfriend had the same exact lineup except rare breed was #1, and 1920 was #2

I’ve got each of these on the shelf so I think I’m going to rewatch, do a short pour and follow along tonight.

After a couple of years of trying to pin down what I like, I've found that my preferences change daily. I've accepted that and it's actually kind of liberating. Knowing how some days some cheap bourbons might beat some of my favorite expensive or allocated bottles has made me a lot less likely to overspend and now if I find myself really loving a budget poor I don't automatically assume there's something wrong with my senses that day. Some days I end up loving bourbons I thought were awful before and some days stuff I hold in very high regard tastes subpar, and it's all good and fun.

Kurt had me thinking with the Mentos thing. I believe I would also eat the half roll, but I'd probably remove the top Mento and discard it first. Great choice on the Maker's 46 CS. I love Rare Breed, too, and have never blinded them, but the Maker's is an excellent pour.

Happy birthday Kurt! I get zero floral notes off of Makers 46 CS...to me it consistently smells and tastes like chocolate chip pancakes with syrup and butter. It's maybe the one bottle you could give to me blind that I could tell you exactly what it is. One of my favorites!

All these blinds have shown Maker's Mark to be one of your favorite overall distilleries. Maker's is often overlooked and taken for granted, I'm glad to see them performing so well, they are one of my favorites, especially the 46CS.

I heard a bourbon taster from one of the distilleries say that you take a very small first sip because it will be taste hot. Then you start enjoying the pour
