@@HouseDM Yeah this was one of the biggest things from this video that I would love to find a way to mold into other ttrpgs as I have players who want to do very specific spells that I typically need to do changes for either on the fly or during a worldbuilding session. Having the player be able to do this sort of thing during character creation would be a really neat system

C&S is my most anticipated game yet! Still haven't played it (but the printed version is on the table eagerly waiting) Still, i have incorporated a lot of mechanics for it in our games and they rock! Can't wait for the physical copy to arrive! Rock and Stone brothers!

C&C is one of my favorite systems, ran it for years hope you enjoy it as well. And you should try using the mana point system from the CKG it's great

It really is. And I love that Hank made “unlabeled versions” so you can use the map and name the landmarks whatever you want. But also, The North Holds is tight.

Thanks for the coverage! 😃 Edit: another great system that uses map-less dungeons is The Land of Eem! I've only ran two so far and they are a bit abstract for me, but once I get my head wrapped around the concept (and run a few more) I think I'll really like that style! Like you said you get to discover with your players! 😃

@@HouseDM With Crown and Skull I want to bring over their ICRPG loots, and characters into the North Holds, since it's the new setting. And pointers of when to award Hero points to characters versus the milestone system from IC. Any crossover is welcome, as it eases us IC veterans into the new mindset.

Ordered the deluxe edition myself. Can’t wait to get it! Do you know if the typo in the table of contents was fixed before it went to print? Was looking at the pdf the other day and noticed that “NUANCES IN PHASES” is listed twice in a row.

@@HouseDM actually got to ask Hank yesterday during the Q&A livestream and he looked at the physical copy. Wasn’t caught in time. But like he said, it is what it is and doesn’t detract from the great work and solid effort that was poured into it. Can’t wait to get my hands on the physical copy!

I am regretting not ordering the gold copy now... I mean, the black is just classic, but the red and gold is stunning, though I wish they hadn't flipped half of the skull upside down for some reason. I'm still deciding how I feel about the game. I do like it, but I feel the magic system is a step backwards from ICRPG. I need to read it another time or two to really make my mind up. I have to look up the details of my preorder... Was that map available in physical form? I don't remember that it was, but I wouldn't mind having it...

Loooove the gold version the most. That’s what I ordered. And I think the magic system is completely different from ICRPG. Not a step forward or backward. It’s just different. And yeah, the maps are available on the Runehammer website. I brought mine to my local craft shop to have framed 😉

What bugs me is that monsters still use HP. It would have been neat if they lost abilities or attacks/damage (maybe via a random table) like PCs do. Having both systems feels weird.

I hear you. But as a GM, it’s MUCH easier to track enemy hp than which abilities have attrition etc. so I think it works.

For good and ill. I think the system of tying HP to losing skills and equipment makes a lot of sense though. In video game systems where you are perfectly fine and able to swing a sword with the best of them at 1HP left makes very little sense. And on the flip side if you tell players "it's basically just hit points" then converting OSE/ICRPG to Crown and Skull becomes a cake walk. To me that means I can reuse and recycle all the content piling up on my shelf.

@@alexroman6424 This Hitpoints progress linearly, while this system will probably snowball quite fast. In fact, is like every hit is incapacitating. Then again, it has to be carefully balanced or the players will have to be extremely cautious. With an attrition system, you expect the players to survive any encounter, but come out a little worse each time, until the one that ends up being your last. If you can just recover afterwards, it'll be too easy. If each one is a fair fight, you won't survive your third one probably since you'll be impaired by then.

Exactly. From my experience, taking any sort of hit has a HUGE impact both in your character AND the narrative. Which is a departure from like the 5e mindset. It really makes you think carefully about things and when you encounter monsters with brutal attrition, you gotta run! 😬

Checked out the free document and will be buying Crown & Skull too. And taking mechanics from it and adding it to ShadowDark sounds interesting. I would love a video on how that worked out. I plan to eventually make ShadowDark my main game to run.

I don't like the random dungeon at all. My immersion is broken when I wander into a dungeon when I pass a dragon, then a room with traps, then three rooms with goblins and then a hall with flesh eating spiders. Yech. How did the goblins get there? Why the traps there. I want story more than I want fights.
