I'd try swap out the regulator. Its pretty simple.

I would contact Mechman directly and explain your situation. I'm sure they could hook you up with a 400 amp one very quick. Keep up the videos!!!

I would buy a new one if you have the extra money and send the brand x off to get repaired. That way you'll have a backup or you could always mount it both once you get it repaired. More power NEVER hurts.

So on the sequoia its more then likely a 4 pin ecu controlled alternator. They will indeed still charge in case of an emergency of no ecu signal. The ecu uses a PWM connnection (pulse width modulation) on the alternator to target a set voltage just like you stated. 1 pin is 12v, 2 is ground, 3 is signal to the dash light, 4 is to the ecu for the signal. That actually sounds like the clutch on the alternator is getting stuck on it if that makes sense. The upgraded alternator might have a clutch issue. It regulates the voltage by "slipping" the clutch on the alternator to reduce input rpms (at least on the stock one). If the clutch is getting stuck and the engines at a higher rpm it could MASSIVELY spike the voltage very very quickly. Something to think about maybe! Good luck man.

Parker, i had my Mechman re-wired to run at a constant 14.5 volt (higher when cold start - normal action) just by adding a hardwired regulator. Call them up and it should be under a hundo to get that added when they re-build one (or ship it off if built fresh).

A Mechman alternator it'll be the most reliable but if you're on a tight budget I would go autotech.

Honestly I would probably order a mechman or something like that. I ordered a US brand and it took about 2 weeks. I’m only charging to 14.2-14.4 max so I’m not sure it would keep yours going, but they’re decent.

It's definatly ur alternator,check with mechman they may have a direct replacment high output alternator for your truck

Can't tell you how awesome it makes us feel when we pan through comments and see the MECHMAN name drops and likes. All alternator companies have a failure here and there.... it's electronics...it happens. You just try to source your components as best you can based on quality and testing. Hopefully the B-X alternator gets repaired and can be ran as spare/emergency. Not harm in that. There's only one alternator company we don't like and it's not B-X. ;) It's just one of those "if you know, you know" type of thing. Sundown has their Skar and we have our "version." :)

Get a mechman. The only company that had a 370amp for my Jetta. Had it within a week. Two years no issues. And all mechman are internally regulated at 14.8v unless you ask them to change it

Just take it to a local alt shop so they can just change whatever on the inside is going out. I've done it before and had the alt back the same day

Ive personally had bad luck with JS. Autotech had a external regulated regulated/painted alternator to me in less than two weeks. Im currently doing a build in my new Escalade. I would go with Singer but they are the most expensive, and I just like the look of the billet Mechman more. I would go with Autotech otherwise. The Cadillac is getting top notch equipment on her. Ill be running separate charging systems in it. But both alternators will be Mechman. One alternator will be charging my 120ah Plannano bank. I hear UPS might be going on strike, so who knows. Maybe Santa will pick up the slack around Christmas 😂😂😂🤣. Order another. Leave your stock, hopefully you'll get a new one in time. Id bet Autotech has one ready set to 15v or whatever your wanting. JS took over 4 months to get mine working.

Buy from mechman they make a module to internally regulate their alts. It's a additional cost but it's a 1 day turn around your battery light will flash but you'll charge constantly 14.8

Just get a mechman or use factory alternator and use resistors to get your 14.6 charging power . Very simple deal

Just changed my regulator yesterday and it’s very easy on most. Hairpin denso was 3 nuts on the back. 4 t20 torqs bolts and 1 solder joint.

Look option 4. Make your own bracket cheep and easy bolt it in. Buy any brand alternator to run the equipment and keep your stock running the car and be done with it. Then you will alwasy have your stuff charging each. You can just make and fab something easy fir the show and have one made or ordered later. You have the space for another belt location on your crank or multiple belt location. Go to auto parts store buy a belt and fab the distance for the size of the belt.

I would send it off to get it fixed👍 And used the stock alternator if it didn't get ready in time. There is Diy you can do to crank up the voltage on the stock one using diods...

I had a internally regulated alternator and had voltage spikes just like you. I bought a external regulated pcm from us alternators and I was able to control my alt output from a knob in the car.

I have a auto tech 370 alt and it works great It delivered in a week and with a diode it charged at 15.4

Pull the back plate off the alternator. Look at the brushes on the voltage regulator. Compair the brushes. Also look at the slip rings could be worn.

Singer alternators makes a voltage booster plug for toyotas to bypass the pcm. About 60 to 80 bucks. Plugs into alt and into the harness. Give you a big boost and can get it to you quickly

I've got a Brand X 320amp alt juicing a D3400 under hood running back to 2 XP series agm's. I've been fortunate to have good juice from beginning. Only thing because powdercoated had to separate casing and clean under connecting rods and then charging began and also have a PWM to install yet to put it to up to 15.3-or higher if needed. Best of luck all that are helping you along the way should be plenty.! !!

You need a load tester. It tests the CCA, internal resistance, charging system and let's you know the actual state of your battery. The voltage can show normal numbers even when defective. I just had a battery that showed correct voltage and charged, but as soon as you put a load it drops too zero. The charging system gave the meter a voltage reading but it's not stable enough to power the electronics on the vehicle.

Love you're honest video's man, really enjoy it! I'd check out local shops. I had a 76 rabbit same voltage regulator issue. I got mine rebuilt in 2 days. Not sure if that's an option for you but I'd look into that for the show and upgrade after.

I ordered 3 custom alts from JS alternators a month or so ago. They were at my house in less than 2 weeks after ordering. If you go with them just be thorough on the order and you should be good. Good luck. 👍

My sister's Van did voted jump up to 16 Votes. the battery, post was dirty and Crowded. Clean the battery post up and Votage was normal. Check that or it might be something different.❤ Love your videos. Keep it up.!

You can clock the back of the alternator to make cable management easier fwiw

get an external voltage regulator that you can adjust from Summit on your next alternator then you have two options if one Fells plug the other one in

hey parker been watching for a while i recommend auto tech engineering i use it they have many alternators in high outputs it looks like they have ones for sequoias as well i have one for my Subaru that puts out 320 amps works well good luck!!!

Just buy the mechman and get a regulator, youre making it a bigger problem than it is. Its a simple fix. Youve done all the hard work already keep it flowin dont waste time on thinking just do.

I would get a hold of Brand X see if you can overnight it to them and have them swap out the regulator and overnight it back. I can't imagine for him that would be more than a 20-30 minute process if that. Just explain who you are and why you need it so quick. I'd bet he'd hook you up.

autotech engineering usa sells the regulator it's a drop in on that unit and as long as the brushes, bearings, diodes are solid a new regulator be a fresh start they take a beating with the pulse currents found in big systems IN6003K

Ohio Generator is where i got my alt for an 04 civic, even with the small cases they got mine charging at 14.8 with 350 amps over the stock 80 amps. Took a little while to have it custom built but its a high quality build. Maybe after the show you could pick one up if they dont have yours in stock

Try a js alternator very well priced and their turnaround time is very quick iv been using them for a few years now and they can take some abuse its better to replace the whole thing because your already going through the work of taking it out if you replace just the regulator and then something else goes wrong your going to go through this again

U can also take it 2 an alternator n starter repair shop...there is like 3 I'm my area idk how far you are from Iredell County I know 2 of them are the most reputable anyway good luck

If you do make the change go with a mechman! I’ve had ces and brand X but nothing compares to my billet 400. I’ve had problems with the brand x so it doesn’t surprise me you are too!

Man those Toyotas with the 4.7 is hell to work on alternators

Not sure if this has been mentioned but you could just diode your sence wire of your stock alt. 2 of them should raise your voltage by 1 volt.

Get an autotech alt I've had mine for 2 yrs and not a single problem and got mine in like 2 weeks

Might Give Apex alternators a try I got my custom 410 amp built for external regulation inside of 2 weeks

About 3 minutes in. Sounds like you put a bigger alternator on it! Since it's running fine at idle and problems when driving. I'd clean all positive and negative ( power connections) replace wires with 4 gage ofc awg wire. The best bet is check all pulles and belt. My thoughts bud the new alternator had to big of a pully put a smaller one one ( might have to get smaller belt ).

You've built banks you can swap a regulator bro. I have a Toyota as well and the diode on the S wire works btw so if you get stuck with the stock alt use a diode and get the voltage up

Get a Mechman alternator

I've seen on KZfaq where guys wire in diodes to their stock alternator to bump the voltage up. Maybe something to look into to get ya by for now.

Check your connection at the alternator I had a connection go bad on me right at the alternator and it was wreaking havoc on my batteries I had to replace one of them because it was way over charging but long story short corrosion can be a killer.. I had a coolant line pop on me while I was going down the freeway and I think that was the culprit also claimed a spark plug 🤷 living lessons daily let me tell you lol usually your alternator can tell you a lot because i was also getting a high pitch buzzing from my doors while i was having this issue fixed the issues fixed the buzz so keep that in mind as well 👍 I had the same look on my face when i thought my Alt was taking a shit this would have been my 3rd one and I was about to be going for number 4 so I was majorly depressed that's for sure but I started it up and went to wiggling and long behold she was crusty at the alt post so definitely always check your wiring first shit happens when you mess with electricity thats for sure lol💯

Yea it will run at 14.6 or 8 but it will dump voltage as required by draw if im not mistaken but that was my understanding

I have 325A High output alt from DC power in my Toyota, but its a 4cyl, if it would fit Id send it to u to get u through the show. Its a great unit, but like u said, it took probably 2 months to get it made during the "c-19" debacle

Auto tech engineering makes great hand built alts. My 320 amp going strong

Get a different alternator. Then get a xs power external altenator controller. (This allows you to change your voltage at a push if a button)

They sale rebuild kits for alternators. But its a big hastle to take them apart. But yeah you can actually rebuild your factory to High output. Look online if you wanna get ideas. They sale it all.

I had the power spikes after putting in a 200a alt. Turns out i was pulling the battery down during red lights. It would spike up to 16-18v coming off the lights. Idle was too low for the power i was trying to pull. Find a tuner or a shop that can bump up your idle roughly 250rpms. Grab your clamp meter and fire up the system while idling. I was pulling 160a for my setup including vehicle power at idle, but was only making 130a at that rpm. Its just not spinning fast enough

Get a regulator sent to ya and diy. Mine did the same thing ; those regulators tend to be the most common thing to go especially in this heat

Try a quick Google maps search of your area that does alternator work. I live in AZ and thought i would have to wait weeks too but turns out 3 miles away from me a company has high output alternator for my Toyota Camry lol picked up same day
