Hi, I’m impressed you can focus so good at t1.05. Even with focus peaking, it is not always easily visible (of course you can change the colour), and those rear screens are really small. So, this with an A7SIII in active stab seems to be a great combo. I’ll think of it. Great content !

Yah, it take some patience. This lens is particularly sharp at T1.05, compared to most other lenses that open this wide, this makes the focus peaking work much better.

Interesting Mark. Never thought about the resolving power being designed for only 4K/8MP. I am considering the 7Artisans 35mm T2.0 lens from their Spectrum Series (designed for FF) It's $80 less. I think I can live with T2.0, wonder how the bokeh compares? BTW: I'm no KZfaqr or SEO expert, but it seems like the algorithm would help folks find this review if you used "7Artisans" in the title and/or description. They, and TT Artisans are well known in the photo community.

I am planning to make short films and i have some doubts for which i need your help. 1) I will have to shoot indoors. Considering crop factor which lens should be my ideal choice 35mm or 25mm? 2) if i decide to buy 25mm. Will the weight of lens bring more disadvantage compare to advantage of greater focal length. 3) Is there any major distortion issues on 25mm ? Thanks in advance. Any help will be appreciated.

Do you know which ef to rf non dummy manual lens adapter works to tell my canon R8 or R5c to ignore the fact that I'm attaching a crop sensor lens to my full frame camera thus forcing it into a 1.6x crop mode that I can't disable? I heard there are some adapters out there that don't pass that information through from the lens to the camera but I have the canon brand adapter and it forces the camera into crop mode. The reason I am asking is because I have the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 ef Art crop lens that actually covers the full frame and would be nice to use the entire sensor. I can slightly untwist the lens a millimeter or so to disable the contacts but then it acts like a manual lens. I still want autofocus obviously. Any ideas on adapters?

You do a great job with your videos... thank you. I shoot a Nikon z6 and love the camera. I have the kit lens, 24-70 Nikon that came with it. This is a great lens but has its limitations. I do a lot of church photography and length and distance is an issue. The church has low light and I am forced to be away from the subject so I must use a zoom. I have found that using my Nikon DX 18-200 3.5-5.6 with the adaptor is a great lens but not good enough full extended in low light. My budget is limited. I love your approach in offering some of the less know lenses that seem to do a great job. I need a zoom lens, z mount, at a reasonable price, can you help me?

I got the RF 25mm f1.05 a few days ago and got a chance to work with it yesterday. One thing right off the bat... (besides damn, it's heavy for its size)... it doesn't seem like the mount is aligned properly. Instead of the f-stop and distance settings being on the top, they're on the side (left side from behind the camera) - is it just like that on mine or is that the way it's supposed to be? Seems like the barrel of my lens was assembled wrong, maybe... with an (approx) 90 degree offset. My lens also came with four screws which I assume are for mounting an auto-focus mechanism and when the lens is mounted to the camera, the screws are on top and bottom and I'm thinking they should be on the sides. Other's experiences/thoughts would be appreciated... I'm thinking this one needs to be returned or repaired. [[EDIT]]: OK, watching this video again, I see that your lens is the same way so it must be intentional - why? Is this the standard for cinematic lenses? Seems weird, but I obviously have no experience in this area. I feel better seeing your lens being the same way, though.

The 35 is sharp, and by far the sharpest, even wide open. The other two do need to be stoped down a little if you want more clinal sharpness, but are still perfectly usable wide open, for the right shot. The samples in this video are almost all shot wide open, and when they are soft, it’s just me missing focus.

@@cyano3d here is my 25mm video - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p7mDgrd63Zm1Z2w.html Thinking back on it, I did shoot the lens at T1.2, rather than T1.05 at times, just to clean up the image a bit. I think you can consider T1.2-1.4 very good, with T 1.05 more of a bonus mode, on the 25mm. The 35mm is sharp right from T1.05.

@markwiemels
@markwiemels Жыл бұрын
I’m working on some comparisons now. I think the newer lenses are better, but the vintage stuff can be pretty good and much cheaper. I think the reason to pick vintage lenses would be price, or if you are looking for a specific image quality trait they offer. If you are on a budget, I think getting a set of vintage lenses is a great way to get started.

@@markwiemels The Contax c/y and Pentax Takumars are much sharper, not only in the center but all the way to the corners, but at least an aperture less bright. Well, AF is great for still imagery…but, in most pro video work is done manual focus. It does take a bit of practice if your pulling manually or doing so as a one man band. I’ve always shot video focus manually…is set up the shot, I had a long metal ruler in a heavy Vice that sits in floor placed where I’ll stand, and I would set focus there…then start the camera, walk over and remove the ruler thing and stand in place and film my bit… It sounds a pain, but not that bad, and makes you think of your shots and cuts a bit more. Anyway one last thing…the GREAT thing about modern mirrorless cameras allow you to adapt almost and vintage MF lens for cool looks… Anyway, hope this helps!

I think you are overemphasizing being able to use this lens in both a full-frame and crop mode. You bring it as if it is something unique or revolutionary. As far as I know, you can use pretty much all modern full-frame lenses in crop mode. Canon, Sony, and Nikon all offer this feature. I am less familiar with the other brands, but I would be surprised if they didn't have it as well. Yes, this is a neat feature for sure, but it is nothing new or revolutionary. It is certainly not a selling point of this lens, and it is not something to dwell on IMO.
@MyMarketingGuy101
@MyMarketingGuy101 8 ай бұрын
You’re right and wrong at the same time. What he failed to mention and what you don’t understand is that putting this particular lens on a full frame has very little to no vignette. Most other crop sensor lenses have a significant vignette once you put them on a full frame camera which makes the majority of these lenses impossible to use without significant cropping to remove the unwanted vignette while also sacrificing resolution. I own this lens and Mark is completely correct. It’s truly unique in that sense because it has a very minimal amount of vignette of my full frame Sony a7s3. So it’s essentially a hybrid lens. I’ve never seen any other lens that can do this without heavily cropping or digitally zooming into the image.

Am I only person who is utterly bored of the ultra-shallow depth of field look? Our eyes don't normally JUST focus on one small section of a screen when we watch a film or video. they rove around because our brain is trying to understand the environment. IMHO, the ability to shoot really shallow makes videographers lazy. I mean, who needs nice backgrounds, or nice lighting, or good composition when you can just obliterate the background??? I guess I am just disinterested in making everything look like it was shot in Portrait Mode on an iPhone ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@markwiemels
@markwiemels Жыл бұрын
Like anything it’s just a tool. In any real world situation you would use it selectively. It’s becoming popular to be hate on shallow depth of field, but in real life I’m not seeing any projects behind shot like that. Videos like this are just demos of a lens capabilities, and the headline capability of a lens like this is the shallow depth of field, so that’s what you demonstrate. As you stop down, things just get better and sharper, so if it’s good wide open, it’s probably good at all T stops. So I think, videos like this one, are marking you think that everyone is just getting these lenses and shooting wide open all the time, but anyone with any experience or skill, is not doing that at all. I think that’s just a perception from watching KZfaq videos.
