I do this exercise and it is an absolutely great exercise for the core and cardio. I use a 10-lb. SPRI medicine ball with handles; and two 24-inch / 60-cm climbing runner slings. I attach the two slings to one of the medicine ball handles and swing for 20-seconds with 10-seconds rest for 8 rounds (4 minutes total). I wear a full-fingered glove for better grip. It's important NOT to use a kettlebell or dumbbell because a bad swing can cause a serious head injury. The rubber medicine ball is less painful if it hits you.
