I really enjoy my 2021 3:02 Charger RT. It’s my 3rd car with the 5.7. I also have a Jeep GC with the 5.7 and I owned a 2013 Charger RT max. The 5.7 is a great power train, runs 0-60 in 5.2 on the street, gets 28 mpg on the highway, mid-grade gas and the insurance is not overwhelming - top speed with the Daytona option is limited to 150 mph. Runs fast enough for me.

You buy a 5.7 to build it. Take the 10k you save on a scat and buy exhaust, headers, and a tune. You get Scat power.

I have never owned, Ive driven V8s before, so after a couple of years, I finally bought my used RT automatic, I like it a lot, it has enough power for me, Im not into racing, I like the V8 rumble, I would say it has adequate power. Put new ceramic brake pads, new spark plugs, had the all checked out, new tires, 75k miles but runs firm and strong.

Back in April, I was pretty set on getting a Challenger Scat Pack too, but I ended up finding a brand new (leftover) 2022 6-spd manual R/T in my favorite color (Frostbite) with 8 miles on the odometer for $38,000 including TT&L (Dodge was offering $2500 rebates on 2022 R/T, GT and SXT but not Scat Pack...plus the dealer just wanted to get rid of their 2022 models so took off another ~$2000). At the time, a Scat Pack would have been at least $12k more and that's if they don't have a mark up. The R/T is definitely enough to scratch that muscle-car itch and now that I have it, I'm noticing how relatively rare it is. I see tons of Scats and GTs and a few Hellcats in my area, but very rarely do I see another R/T. I really like the 2022 R/T wheels too! (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pcB-lKR8rN7ZfXk.html )

I get more props from guys with 392's on my 5.7 with the tasteful mods I've done. Sure, it will beat me in a race but it's all in what the driver wants and I feel as though the 5.7 gets overlooked. It's plenty enough power for me driving up and down the road and plenty power for me to get out of a pinch if need be. Great review bro and thanks for shedding light on the 5.7.

Originally, I wanted a 392 because the Hellcat was out of my budget. I was set to drop a down payment on a 2019 Hell Raisin 392 Challenger Scatpack with 3000 miles. At the time, I knew my insurance and payments were going to be high, so I took a pause and thought about it a little more. At the time, I had no idea the Hemi 5.7 existed until I met a guy who had a 5.7 Charger. I asked if they had a Challenger 5.7 because I'm not a fan of the 4 door. Did my research and decided to have my 5.7 built! Though it's not the fastest of the V8, I believe it's a better pick for an entry-level muscle car and on paper better on the pockets. Lower payment, insurance isn't outrageous, and it's a great daily. Not to mention it, responses better to performance mods! I can even mod it to make it as fast as a 392 without paying more in insurance. I hate that the 5.7 is overlooked and underappreciated.

Not sure when's the last time you've looked, but now the Scats (non widebody) are being discounted. I'm looking at one for $44k but it's got an Automatic with 1500 miles. But there's lots of Scats being offered with discounts now, unfortunately most are automatics. I will say ive driven both the 6M and automatic and enjoy that legroom in the auto, but miss the control of a 6 speed. I've seen RTs with $12k off, and Scats with $6k. Now what would you choose?

Getting closer to looking at the scat - $44k is tempting. Still feel like prices need to come down more but I’m comparison to even a year ago it’s major progress. If I could get a narrow body new scat under $45k it would be compelling.

Dude the 5.7 will be more dependable than that stroked out 6.4 because you went super out there with the 6.4, any bone stock car from dodge will be more dependable than one that's been worked on. If you went 6.7 stroke, bigger camshaft, forged pistons, upgraded pully system, air intake, performance headers, and a flex fuel tune you could make close to 700hp naturally aspirated and it would still be dependable

It really comes down to how much power you want. I had a Charger Scat Pack for 2.5 years and found it to be overpowered. I don't drive like a maniac though and I am now driving a Charger GT. The cars look almost exactly the same, have the same transmission, and even ride on the same tires. It's saving me $360/month and the thieves tend not to be as enthusiastic about the V6s. The R/T is a reasonable compromise if you must have the V8 and it only costs about $100/month more than the GT. In my opinion, with the current incentives, those two trims are the best buys.

Hey GTC….I have a Daytona 5.7L, and I always knew it was the best value. Don’t get me wrong, the Scatpack was the best bang for your buck in terms of power per dollar (nowadays a little less so, because they have been jacking the prices up), but in terms of VALUE, for a Great Car that can give you all and anything you expect from a HEMI…the 345 platform does it for a very reasonable and affordable price. Let's be real here, the V6 Camaro handles better but accelerates like a complete joke and sounds like ass. At least a 5.7 sounds better, can usually edge out a V6 in a straight line and has more room inside. Let's be honest here, a 90s Pontiac Trans Am is a better car than any 5.7 challenger. You get the legendary bulletproof 5.7 LS1 and you actually get better handling, better chassis, more durable parts and better reliability. Get you a 2002 Trans AM WS6. Everything still works and it still gets driven like a Camaro. Pushing 730rwhp on a conservative tune but can do more. Listen pal, I hate that Mopar didn't do a little something more for the 5.7 in this challenger but like I said before, it's a good cruiser. Nothing more and nothing less. I also need to say the disrespect from Stellantis currently will keep me away from mopar products for years to come.
