I heard the boombox 3 and the encore in store and the boombox 3 sounded like a cheaply made speaker it was horrible but the encore sounded amazing.

I guess the big thing that the T11 and the Encore have going for them is that they're more musical in manual playback mode when the battery dies (aka bang on them with your hand mode). 😋 I'm surprised they didn't advertise it in the marketing. 😉 Just don't drop them in the pool. 💧 The BB3 and the Blast are the more water safe choices with the Blast being the best value but unable to compete with the others for bass. Your thorough comparisons are always appreciated. 🙏 I can't imagine how much time it must take to correlate all of the similarities and differences on the level that you do. @@alanrossreviews Oh, it's terrible. I built a lot of my identity on being a no-lights-guy. I told myself it was just something I got used to from battery life testing. Then I tried turning them off cold turkey and there was a beast inside me that would not be sated until I turned those damn lights back on. What happened to me??? That poor stock battery has a hard enough time without the lights. And don't get me started on going back to the lights on the essential after getting a taste of the lights on the normal Encore!

Hey Alan. You might wanna revler the sinox sonitus boom. 12+ hours playtime, 2x 70mm woofers, with 2x 20watts power. Sound pretty interesting. Kinda cheap, but first time i saw it in stores, today.

Hi Alan, can you make a review of the new JBL soundbar series please? I bought JBL Bar 800, the bass is deep and clean but the overall sound quality is not satisfying. Is this an issue for any soundbar? What do you generally think about soundbars? Many thanks.

This last weekend, A bunch of us went out camping. I brought my two Encores and a jackery. we set them up in TWS mode and plugged them in to the jackery for more volume. I maxed them out and we played all sorts of music genres for hours. Everyone was impressed including me. There was a bit of compression yes but damn, those suckers were sooooo clear. Not once did they have any sort of distortion that was noticeable to me (besides the DSP doing its thing on the dynamics of course). That and the soundstage made for an amazing experience. If I stopped tracks abruptly, you could hear the reverberation back off the hills.

Do you know how much power the Encore draws from the wall? Is it under 200watts? I cant quite see the table at the bottom of the screen...looks like it says 60w? Interested in an power pack like the Jackery 240 for charging outside...if i ever fancy a wander in the woods somewhere.

not dustproof no. encore for moderate volumes to high volumes, t11 for 90% and over volumes.

Well.... As someone who loves bass, I can't believe I'm going to say it but I think I preferred the encore in no bass mode. The vocals on the box 3 sounded nicer. I wonder if the encore in no bass would in effect make the vocals feel brighter. At 100%, the box 3 was uncomfortable in its high end for me, I preferred the encore in deep mode. Also, you can't keep saying 'honk' about the sound when wearing that nose! 🤣 Thanks Alan!

honk honk 😝😝 yeah for sure, less bass will automatically make the mids and highs clearer. and vice versa of course. its a bit bass light for its soyund signature for me in bass boost off mode. but its certainly surprisingly flat for a party speaker in that mode.

Amazing review as always!!! Your quite amazing in deed, I do love the encore I haven't personally updated mine because it's supposed to make it sounds not as good to save some battery, while it does compete amazingly well with the boombox 3 I still prefer the sound of the boombox 3 😁

the bb3 is a better speaker all round but at near twice the price and with its particular tuning its not for everyone. encore can match the deep bass of the bb3, for many thats enough.

I know you mentioned it goes louder plugged in but you should've done a test plugged in anyway as on my encore essential (I know its a different model but its very similar) it goes quite notably louder and also sounds more fun and alive like somehow? I have both the Stormbox Blast and Encore, and while the Blast is an absolute champ pound for pound for the money, the Encore just sounds so exciting with how much deeper it can go.

I have the Encore plugged in most of the time anyway, and of course it's going to be bigger for the bigger driver which delivers the considerably lower bass. Also, considering the price, here in the US, during black Friday it was under $200. I think my brother picked his up for $150 at Walmart. I paid $250 for mine last year. Definitely worth it for the sound it puts out.

@@alanrossreviews This might get a little wordy but hey, hear me out. I never got a chance to listen with headphones but it was the data I was most interested in. Man, I can't argue with any of your points. I will say though that I REALLY miss when you would add that frequency response line for the track it self. That made it real nice to see how the speakers deviated and added their own sounds. Like when you are comparing the three, yeah those peaks are pretty obvious but it was nice to see which stayed a little truer to the source material. I can't believe you didn't slam the piss poor battery even more! lol. You have to think about how they are designing these things though. I do believe the party box line are meant more to be plugged into the mains on a porch or something with the battery as just a nice extra. Well that and of course it it would compete even more with their BoomBox3. I modded mine to add two more cells and it is perfect. I didn't jump on the boombox 3 but I do still have my BoomBox 2 and like you have found, the BB3 isn't really any better on the low end. I never compared them at full volume but that's pretty interesting that they get pretty darn similar on deep bass at full volume. I usually listen at 60% or below. I really like the sound of the encore at those volumes over the boombox 2 but I will admit, I know that my hearing is getting more and more attenuated on the upper treble range. I may not even notice if it is a little too bright up that high. Also, I have to admit that my huge smile comes most from running two encores in TWS mode. Also I have mentioned I run Bass boost 1 BUT also +1 to both bass and mids on that silly 3 band EQ thing. Looking at your measurements, I feel kinda vindicated in pushing the bass up one and not sure about the mids but the combined effect lowers the highs. Someone else in the comments mentioned why not just lower the treble slider and maintain some headroom. Well, if you could adjust the amount of deep bass boost, then yeah but you can't so you have to raise the bass slider to recover that upper bass that is sacrificed for the deep bass. And again, I typically listen 60% or below so the headroom doesn't matter much and when I am over 60% volume, I am usually pretty drunk hahahah. Also, I know you don't want to deal with the volume boost when on mains and I really agree there is probably no point but to me, that volume boost is way more noticeable on teh encore than any other speaker with the same behavior. Maybe another result of the anemic battery pack they threw in these things. There absolutely would have been enough room for another two cells without impacting the resonating airspace volume inside this if they had wanted to. One last thing, I noticed that these suckers are real fickle about room placement indoors! And what the heck were they thinking when they made those DJ sounds play at full volume no matter what the speaker was set to? I about gave myself and the wife a heart attack when I tried the horn sound inside!

lol! your wife didnt like your horn??? maybe that means something else in your world than it does here 😁 all valid points. just remember im fighting with time these days and trying to simplify what i do. average view time is about 7 mins and this video as it is was 40 mins long and i cut about 20 mins from that 🙈 one reason the karaoke bit went into another video. the plug in volume might be one for another day but my head is full of stuff id like to do if i get time.

@@alanrossreviews I will never expect hi-fi from Bluetooth speakers 😝 But it seems quite balanced and it doesn't have the same issues as Boombox 3 while going ever so slightly deeper. It have less punch but with no mids peak it might end up being more bassy. To me it's better than Boombox 3, and I still have Boombox 2 for a more full bass 😋

@@alanrossreviews I got my Encore (HM version). And holy hell this thing goes incredibly deep, it's really noticeable compared to Boombox 2 ! Thanks to the lack of 700hz peak, you can feel how big the difference is. By pushing bass +1 in the EQ, it fills the mid and upper bass pretty well, making it the true Boombox 2 successor to me. I think mids and highs are adequately tuned, though like I said, I reduced treble to -1 in the EQ to eliminate any possibility of the speaker being sharp. If only Boombox 3 sounded this good, I would have loved to have a bigger battery... 🙄 Also, yeah, in my world, the Encore makes any Onyx Studio speaker irrelevant, they sound thin and brittle next to the Encore 😂

My present Speaker is Encore essential, it's good for my usage & i usually use it for casual listening in low volume without any bass boost & using my own EQ . When I used it all over night, morning when I checked the battery it has still 50% left. It's Good for the price , i paid 19990 Indian money (245 usd) which is good. It's good for night time music listening.

@@alanrossreviews Yeah that's True , When I'm listening above 70% Volume, I listen with power cord connected which gives an overall Boost in Sound , which gives more punchier base & i dont activate the bass boost, i simply EQ on JBL app, the bass slider to full & add some bass slider increase on phones EQ also. Which gives more punch & deep rhumble at the same time, which I feel more balanced. I use Sony music center Android app.

I have a jbl partybox 110 and I'm loving it. At first I bought a boombox 2 ( it was before the boombox 3 release )which was great, but shortly after I realized that for less money, the partybox 110 was better in every way except for portability and battery life, but honestly, I couldn't care less for battery life, I want my speaker to be easy to carry around, but you'll always have a power plug near by, and I'll always use it because it also gives a sound boost when it's plugged it... and yes it may be less portable, but the boombox isn't that portable neither. Keeping in mind how expensive the boombox 3 is, I would much rather get 2 partybox encore, or 2 partybox 110, actually planning on getting another 110 this year. And with 2 partybox 110 you can have a really good and loud party. On a side note, a friend of mine has the partybox 710, for it's size and weight, I kind of expected for from it. I think the sweetspot is the partybox 310. It gets it right. But a bit expensive also, in order to buy two of them for stereo. Reading through comments I'm actually amazed how many people care for the battery. I want it to have some battery, so it won't turn off if the power goes off for a fraction of a second, and even though I understand that you might want to take it somewhere where you don't have a power socket. I'm reading that some people are charging them 2-3 times a day. I don't think that these people never have a power socket, why not use it plugged it if you have a socket near-by? It's even healthier for the battery and it will last you more when you really need it.

Dude get that 2nd 110 that's my home set up 2 of the pb110 amd got em on jbl pro stands the sound is fn amazing amd in my opinion the 110 amd 310 are only jbl speakers that warrant their price tags f the bb3 their charges and the flips in those styles I'd easily go with the tribit or wking speakers but the 110 are killer amd on sale today at best buy for 329 of you're lookin

Depending where you live best buy has the pb 110 for 299 right now I've had 2 of em for last yr and that's my home system returned the encore essential cuz of battery life and just got the boombox 3 for 379 at local Walmart and also returned that. Why cuz for under 200 I think the soundcore rave party 2 is best thing available before I got that I felt the tribit blasts were but the rave party 2 is my new go to for portable speaker... the boombox 3 to me is insane what they charge for that speaker no fj way I'd rec that thing to anyone

I'm from Brazil and I've been looking for content like yours for some time to answer my questions about the partybox encore and boombox 3. You mention a peak of 700hz on the boombox 3 which really bothers the ears when listening at higher volumes, giving impression that almost 50% of the bass is lost, resulting in a very strident and annoying sound, but I like the set and balance of it at volumes below 60%. Would it be possible to equalize the boombox 3 in some way so that it could reduce this 700hz peak so that it maintains a more pleasant sound without losing the strong bass at higher volumes? If that were possible, I would prefer the boombox 3 over the Encore, but if it's a problem that can't be fixed, I'll stick with the Encore. I think the encore essential with a powerstation 400wh or so? (big powerbank with ac) could be a nice combination for small bbq parties. I heard the encore doesn`t need much power and that it becomes louder with ac power. (similar to the bb 3)

I love your videos btw. in most sound tests on youtube I disliked the boombox 3 sound compared to the boombox 2- the bb3 sounded to shrill in my ears. the JBL Charge 5 I owned was also not warm sounding? enough for me (even while changing the eq), that`s why I sent it back.

I have all three of these speakers and I find myself grabbing the Boombox3 the most. I think I like those crispy highs because I rarely listen to the tribit stormbox blast. I like my w-King t11 I think it is a great speaker especially for the money. But I think I am a little partial to the JBL. I have 2 JBL encores and they really sound good in TWS. But they are all great choices.

OK, I grabbed my cans and listened to the soundcheck portions and I see what people are saying about the treble on the encore. It IS a tad crisp in these recordings. I guess with it being down on the ground like it is, I hardly ever listen to in perfectly on-axis or something. I wonder if I wouldn't hate the BB3's annoying peaks in real life as much either in most listening situations. Not that I would buy one or anything since I already have a BB2... Holy cow that treble is overwhelming in the 100% volume test. I swear I don't hear them like that when I run mine at full tilt outdoors. But then again, I am usually pretty drunk when that happens.

yeah in a normal room some of that treble will be damped and outside it will be less of an issue. im trying to capture exactly what the speaker is doing with minimal room influence. also what are you listening back on? does it have any of its own high end push?

@@alanrossreviews exactly and the use case of a boombox that large would to me be something you might bring to the beach or maybe out by a bonfire listening at a distance and not sitting 1 meter away, I guess it’s really bothering me why a 500 dollar speaker is equalized in such a way when JBL knows how to build a neutral speaker, like maybe their is a reason it’s got a peak at 700hz? Maybe it could have something to do with its use case? I listened to one close up inside and didn’t care to much for it, then I also heard one outside sitting out on a table a distance away while we were doing outdoor activities and to my ear it sounded much better? I don’t know just a thought,

A £500 speaker that only has SBC is in my opinion rather ridiculous. For that amount, I would hope it would have at least AAC. I might be the only one bothered by that but I have reasons lol I can hear a difference in quality between different Bluetooth codex so I would imagine that if these speakers had better quality Bluetooth codex, they might sound better. I gather there is a difference in audio quality between wired and wireless?

Flatulence with legumes does pass in time when you eat legumes daily, the good bacteria from the beans/lentils creates balance eventually and you rarely poot believe it or not, i was a skeptic in my gas bag stage. I really want to hear this particular speaker, more than any, went with the blast because of the generous battery and descent all arounder but i have a feeling that encore is special not that the blast isnt haha

@Alan Ross Reviews. I know it's expensive. But you absolutely must try out the Devialet Phantom I or II if you get a chance. I had $1100 amazon gift cards to spend from my birthday and Christmas and I said fuck it.. and bought a Phantom II. The first thing I did was compare it to the boombox 3. Keep in mind it's three times smaller than the boombox 3. It gets louder. It has measurable bass extension down to 21hz from my testing. Very good bass down to about 28hz. Then it's not as loud. Boombox 3 has nothing below 35-38hz. Also, boombox 3 has bass reduction starting at 70% and it's soft bass. Not a lot of chest thump behind it. The phantom II increases bass all the way to max volume and it gets very very punchy like you feel the physical impact of the bass. So it gives a very strong thump in your chest. And it does not thin out. It does not compress. It's so small. But it has an unbelievably heavy sound. I never heard a speaker have such a thick rich bass. Super deep bass and very hard-hitting upper bass. On some tracks with bass boost the walls of my whole apartment were vibrating and it's not much bigger than a charge 5. Oh and this thing is so heavy. It weighs 10 pounds. It just hurts my brain how so much power can come from something so small. I can't even imagine the bigger Phantom.

You didn't say anything about the battery xD.. which is a weird thing with this speaker. My version is the VG (like yours) And i did hear about the problem the older versions had (the first ones from jbl 8 months ago), having a hour or less lasting battery, while the essential holds almost the same. As far as i know, jbl fixed that problem with newer models, and im wondering if our versions are the improved ones

@@alanrossreviews cheers for the reply Alan. Thing is, I take my T-9 to the pub, and usually play it after the football finishes on a Sunday around 18:30. I've been told to turn it down quite a few times by the gaffer. so the encore must be on another level surely ...not bothered about the IP rating as we all know, the weather is shit in England and always raining, so akin to being at a pool party... Inside use only for moi ...

finally a good sounding speaker JBL speaker, Partybox Encore is excellent. just dont buy the essential version it has cheaper amp. buy the one that says JBL PartyBox Encore nothing else or JBL PartyBox Encore 2 mics version is also good. Tribit Stormbox sounds and feels average but still decent for the price. just trying to help here.

Hi Alan, how do you mesure the max bitrate? My guess: Is it in the dev options of android, or do i need a certain app for that? I have the Boombox 3 for 2 months. On higher levels the mids are really piercing, but i think, its made for more output playing outdoors, reaching longer distance. The Encore seems to be made of cheaper drivers that the Boombox 3. IMHO, It has 2 very cheap fullrange drivers, which you can get, by the looks of it, for 30 pennys at your fav china OEM. The big woofer, looks like an ordinary driver, with a paper cone, and thats it. Right from the shelf of an OEM. But in a big enclosure, with a vast bass reflex port, tuned quite low. If resilience and size are not a problem for you, a good deal. But if you are a real speaker afficionado, like me, than i prefer the Boombox 3. Its has a 3 way system, with coax silk dome tweeter and beefy midrange driver, playing in its own acoustic chamber. The racetrack woofer of the boombox 3, custom made to fit in perfectly, with its enormous magnet, high excursion surround, and reinforced cone, makes to me a lot more sophisticated driver, and for me, more desirable driver. IMHO, the extra charge you pay on the boombox 3, is for its waterproofness and smaller enclosure.

i prefer the form factor as well with the bb3 but that 700hz peak is simply too much for me and it has no more bass than the bb2 so for me its the bb2. the encore seems to have a proper crossover so not sure if i would go along with the full range drivers but you may be right. the battery on the encore is ridiculous though.

sound texture is rough and grainy. sound stage doesn't meet expectations, too narrow. sound seperation is poor. but do have good quality bass performing

@@alanrossreviews @Alan Ross Reviews T11 from W- King convinced me very much in your video because of the balanced bass and no big drop in the frequencies of the middle bass as well as encore and JBL Boombox 3 and anyone who now says activate bass boost 2 on the encore is completely lost because the encore then has less deep bass than the T11 has ;)

Over priced and badly tuned but remains the reference for a deep bass reasonablly portable speaker. But the bb2 has as much bass and there are some great deals around
