Problem with the setup here tho is that White is already down a piece. So Black doesn't have to keep responding to threats on his bishop: after f3, he can play Rc8, lose the bishop, and fight on with b5.

So you may want to remove the N on f6 from the setup

@@zetristan4525 a whole lot of the beauty of the puzzle is lost without the knight on f6. Also this occured in an actual game and is not composed. In the resulting position material would be equal, but white is still winning with the bishop pair and much better placed pieces.

@@rocker1260 It's such a beautiful puzzle, but it's important to mention all the opponent's best moves. After the essential e3, Black would in fact follow it up with Rc8 immediately. He's threatening b5 pawn fork on White's N and B next.

@@rocker1260 Of course, White can then play Bxe3 b5, Bd2+ b4, gxf5 with the advantage. A lot better for Black than walking into a mate tho. (Maybe this is why computers didn't see it as a forced win?)

How was this solution found?

I don't know honestly?! If this happened in my game and SF didn't point it out in game review, I'd never know... Also curious who spotted the opportunity.
