I have just spent the last year nearly every day in hospital battling cancer and if it’s told me one thing you have to grab life with both hands as it’s very short so go for it. I went to Thailand 30 years ago and it was the most amazing experience ever. Everyone will be fascinated by your journey and I can’t wait to see your adventures as I can’t fly anywhere at the moment. Good luck.

The Thailand KZfaq vlogging scene is already massively oversatuated, replete with its own subcultures and drama, so aside from novelty, I don't know what you could bring to the genre that hasn't been done 1000's of times already. I am tempted to advise you to 'stick to what you know'' and maybe are good at; namely pottering around the streets of London, discovering hidden gems to eat at or visit, with the occasional foreign trip/holiday/adventure thrown in to boot. Maybe the Thaliand experience could be used in this latter context, but not to pivot away from what made the channel popular in the first place.

Dont make any decisions too quick my son went to thailand to get away from things here at home but in his heart once he was there he knew he acted too hastily and realised his mental state was not right when he went out there. He came back the same month and became training as a mental health nurse of which he now is fully qualified. Think it through thoroughly and just enjoy the opportunity of going there for a great break.

As an expat Brit living in Australia I think I can comment with a degree of experience . All the advice in the World never quite prepares you for the dive into a new life abroad. It’s definitely not a “ one size fits all “ sort of World we live in , and the only person who knows what’s right for you is you . Just remember you will get older as will your family you leave behind will , and that’s when you realise the grass is not necessarily greener when either you or your family need help. I’d still say give it a go , but be prepared for the ups as well as the downs . My best wishes , and you will make the best decision for your particular situation .

On one hand I would say grab it while you have the chance but on the other I would put my sensible head on and say go and see if you enjoy the lifestyle first and think you have the content to make it a full time gig. It might seem like a goer but whilst you wouldn't be starting the channel all over again you would be looking to attract a whole new audience whilst keeping the ones you already have. Remember youtube can demonetize your channel at any point so always have a quick way back and don't solely rely on something as fickle as youtube.

Darren, if your head is not in the right space, with all the changes happening with your and your family, I wouldn’t make an instant decision. As you say, something may come up in your industry. Asia wouldn’t be a long term answer but you could have an extended period there if finance allows. I had envisioned London as your you tube base when the time came but it’s what you feel will work for you. My interest is London but I’m only one subscriber.

As a keen follower of both your channels and having lived myself in Thailand for the best part of 6 years may I offer you the following observations : 1. You are allowed in Thailand for 30 days only on a tourist Visa. I used to border hop, return to Thailand and start the 30 days visa cycle again. 2. Bangkok is the hottest city in the world by mean average temperature. The heat can be oppressive, but slightly more temperate further north such as Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai. 3. Thai street food is a delight. They might not look pleasing to the eye, but it's cheap and delicious (and noisy). 4. Thailand is called The Land of Smiles. The people are fantastic. Thais take politeness to a whole new level. 5. Although it was relatively cheap when I was there, the GBP/Baht rate is not good as a tourist. Currently c. 46 Baht/GBP.

I'm an Aussie and enjoy watching you and your approach to life in general. 'Telling it like it is' appeals to me. I've just subscribed and will follow you which ever route you take. IMHO anyway, 'the best of luck' is not something that appeals to me. Getting up of the canvas again & again is more like it. And I reckon you've got that in spades. Now let's get this adventure started. Be it Thailand, somewhere else in Asia, the UK (but elsewhere), you strike me as the type of bloke that'll ride with the punches and do okay for himself. I'm backing you to do well and come out on top. My one tip - Do not be worried about change and adapting. It's what successful people do.

DJ, follow your heart mate, the viewers will still be here watching, and so will new ones! Just a couple of thoughts: I reckon you could easily go full time KZfaq (as long as you can afford it in the long run). Personally, I wouldn't be setting my heart on long term living in a place I'd never been to (as you are with Thailand). I went to Turkey a few years ago, I thought I'd absolutely love it, but I could not wait to get home, it was nowhere near as good as I thought it would be. If it's definitely going to be the place for you then I'd say go for it. Your enthusiasm for Tenerife is actually the main reason why I watch your videos. I love the place and it's my dream to live there one day. I know that the housing situation over there and rental prices at the minute are through the roof, but the lucrative visa is actually attainable (contrary to people's common belief after Brexit). I'd be having a deeper dive into it and seeing what is actually available over there. All the best to you sir 🙂

I would input my advice DJ as so many have given you an assortment of honourable advice, whether it's right or wrong for you. Followed you from your early days and simply enjoy your London based vlogs, they are good honest food reviews at so many varying eating establishments. You are undoubtedly a skillful You tube creator so can't you diversify as you have done in Tenerife by creating a travel log during Thailand holiday in Sept and see if it adds to your following why remaining based in London. Whatever decision you simply follow your heart and with Luke new adventure in US. I certainly wish you well and look forward to watching you next reviews of the afternoon tea at the Ritz 🤗

Foe me I'd see how the 20 0dd days go and come home and evaluate how you feel about it. At the moment your YT content is attractive because of the locations, London and the SE and Tenerife. I would fear going to Thailand ( which has many established You Tubers already ) so are largely starting again from scratch - could be risky.

Love The sweet Caroline or at least the wife did.😂😂😎 and you could always jump across to Cambodia which again is an amazing country you could do some amazing food videos there and it is so cheap especially on the islands in the south.. regards Chris..

Sorry to hear about the set-back, DJ.

I've been a subscriber of yours since you had around 2.5k-5k subscribers. I can't speak for everyone, but I subscribe to your channel as I like your content, and I value you're genuineness and openness. People stay subscribed and engaged with a channel due to the person presenting the content... YOU! Whether you're in Blighty, in Bangkok, or in Baghdad, it doesn't matter to us. My advice would be the obvious: - Engage with fellow Brits who create content in Thailand. There are a few, but I watch the likes of 'Geoff Carter' and 'Eyes of Owen'. They frequent Thailand regularly, and are UK based (at time of writing). They should be good first-point contacts to discuss with (and possibly meet up with whilst still home) before you even leave for Thailand, and they should equip you with what to expect, and should have some advice on who you could speak to whilst in Thailand. - Whilst in Thailand, meet up with expat 'You Tubers' on your travels over several Chang beers, and ask how their experience has been, what challenges they've faced, etc. Is it realistic to make a living over there doing what they're doing? Do some videos with them, and see how that goes - Visiting a place and enjoying it whilst on holiday is NOT necessarily the same as living there. There are tales of woes from many an expat who has been fleeced by Thai women and the Thai system itself. Thailand may, or may not, be for you. - Other than the obvious (family) assess whether living in Asia will enrich your life What have you got to lose? I say at least scope it out before you leave, whilst you're there, and then make a decision. As long as you have your health, that's all that matters. Either way, take care, and I look forward to seeing how your 'journey' unfolds. 👍

Hi Darren. I was concerned with this latest vlog, when you’re considering a major change in life, for what’s it’s worth, my advice is to calm down and don’t rush into it. Have the holiday and see how it goes. The reason I started to follow your channels was because you went to places I couldn’t or even want to go to. Since then, I have been to quite a few, ie Blacklock and Old Cheshire cheese, which are both great. Your trip to Spain on your motorbike was gripping and had me shouting at you in parts. So if you go, I can’t see me remaining as interested.

Hi Darren, I’m responding to your latest KZfaq video from way up high in northern Thailand, needless to say, I was immediately intrigued by your general thoughts and ongoing deliberation regarding an extended stay in the Kingdom from September - and to experience the true communal, monetary and meteorological fruits to be found here in the land of plenty. I spent many years coming and going, backwards and forward to Thailand as a holidaymaker, and grew to love this nation, so-much-so, after a decade of constant dwelling, I opted to permanently quit the UK (2019) and unconditionally settle in what I now regard as my forever, spiritual home. It is no easy thing to ‘up-sticks’ on a hunch as there is much to consider, to say nothing of the consequences, or ramifications about, family, friends, finances and matters of personal health, all of which will have a telling effect on whatever conclusion you ultimately arrive at. I’m a former, long-serving member of the British Armed Forces, one who now runs two businesses in the Isaan Province, plus an English teacher to Grade 8 pupils (and above), and Coach to the town’s flourishing football club. From my domestic idyll here in Udon Thani, I have too, recently completed, and published my third novel, ergo; 'The Hoplites of Leith.' We never know what lies around the corner, Darren, until 2016, I endured melancholic gloom on a significantly dreadful scale and struggled for many years to successfully locate the exit from the cerebral maze I found myself in, looking back, Hell, I was only one decision away from psychotic freedom and a whole new way of life. I accept that these are not the most appropriate, electronic means to convey further thoughts on your current pondering, nonetheless, should you wish to give me an email prod - I shall be more than happy to impartially provide you with whatever data or advice you require before your LHR departure in September. In summary, many congratulations to your son on his recent employment success, and, heartfelt commiserations to your disappointed lassie, there are better things that lie ahead of her, for sure. Incidentally, KZfaq viewers will be delighted with your more permanent presence on the channel - fact!. Best wishes. Gordon George Kinghorn. gordonaaacse@gmail.com
