I bought a mini water clearing pump for hiking (and a big one for home). Fits in your pocket and is also able to filter out viruses. The new filters are really good today. Its good that people are getting into what was common for our grandparents. Some dry food in youre basement, the option to make clean water and some emergency cash. And whatever happens you are safe for months. One year ago my bankaccount was blocked by the tax office for a month. As a prepper, i did not even care. :)

It should be mentioned in case something happens to your bottle (which is a great invention by the way) if you heat a pot of water so it steams and have a can or pot in the center of the water, but higher then the water to catch the steam, it too will be safe to drink.

False. Distillation removes some contaminants. It ***concentrates*** others. You HAVE TO KNOW which contaminants you are dealing with. Test kits are more important than filters.

where did you get 15 years from? i asked about unused shelf life before and was told this: The lifesaver filter shelf life is 3+ years unused, meaning, prior to introduction to water. The hollow fiber tubes require hydration to work properly and maintain effectiveness. When the filters are manufactured, they are coated with a food grade glycerin which acts as a substitute for water prior to the filters use. Once the filter is introduced to water for the first time,

Sawyer has a .02 micron. Used it, use them and they work great. I bought a couple of the Lifesavers, they have a five year shelf life, from what I was told by Lifesaver it had nothing to do with the seal but the breakdown of the membrane by gravity. At least that is what they told me a few years ago.

We live/travel full time in outback Australia and we have both of these types ... and a few others. I use the jerry can model a lot for re-filling our empty bottled water bottles instead of buying new packs of water all the time. Other than being remote a lot of the time and having no ready access to replacement packs of water, it actually works out MUCH cheaper to refill your bottled water this way .. particularly if you happen to drink a lot of water. It's also far higher filtered than bought bottled water .. although a downside to this is that it actually takes out all the minerals as well .. so there could be a need to add some back in if you're getting insufficient levels from other dietry sources. I just add a few drops on concebtrated Himalayan Salt water back in to compensate. Being able to drink filtered water from a cattle trough or a muddy puddle could be a life saver. Unfortunately .. it won't filter urine! (just in case you're wondering)🙂
