Funny enough I thought about a similar idea: Najeela as the commander but only because is one of the cheapest ways to make it WUBRG, then all of the artifact tutors you can get your hands on to get a Birthing Pod and just fill your deck with creature combos to do anything you want. Extra flavor if you also put the Pyre of Heroes and Maskwood Nexus in there but you shouldn't need to with a Birthing Pod

A good way to protect against graveyard hate that is in spell form would be Spell Burst. If you have a bunch of cost reduction, you can set the value of X to be whatever you want and pay for the buyback. You don't need to beat everyone, just the person who has interaction up. Another way to save Orvar would be to have Corpse Dance, it's a bit expensive to get a non-gold border version, but that is an instant speed reanimate for Orvar if someone tries to remove your graveyard. Lastly, a way to break the back of your opponents and also save key permanents would be Capsize. It's not expensive either. For another strategy, you can make tons of soldier tokens with Recruit the Worthy, and tons of rats at sorcery speed with Lab Rats. Shattering Pulse can be a build-your-own Vandalblast. And the same can be done with Allay for enchantments.

So I got these cards and assembled it. Then added Conspiracy, Adaptive Automation, Maskwood Nexus, Kozilek, Butcher of Truth and Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre. Now when Ovar is in the graveyard, if you have one of the shapeshifter cards on the field everything in your deck is tutor bait. You can search for the Eldrazi. If not, I put in two additional Dragons to create board state until said card is drawn. All in all a good repeatable situation.

Pull from Eternity and Kozilek, Butcher of Truth / Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre / or any number of shuffle graveyard into your library cards in your deck can give you another shot. Cast Pull from Eternity to get Orvar out of Exile and back into your graveyard. Then search for Kozilek or other similar effect. When it hits the yard, shuffle your yard back into your library. Rinse and repeat :) Bottom line is you need Pull from Eternity in this deck and maybe an instant tutor or two to ensure you can get Orvar back.

@@AugustAMcClung all useless if it's gone by then. There's more cards that exile cards from your graveyard than there are that put them from your graveyard back into your library. The deck is a glass cannon. Those graveyard hate cards see WAY more play too.
@AugustAMcClung
@AugustAMcClung 5 ай бұрын
@@alexmuccilli if you add maskwood nexus, you can respond to any graveyard hate. 2 mana, Scion fetches maskwood nexus. All creatures in library becomes dragons, including Kozilek. 2 more mana, fetch kozilek. He enters the graveyard and immediately shuffles all cards into library, including maskwood nexus and kozilek. Rinse and repeat! :) The bonus is Scion becomes a 12/12 Annihilator 4 until end of turn. Even if the actual card is shuffled into the library. The caveat is that a few cards are pretty pricy but just a couple cards add an incredible amount of resilience to any weakness.

I think the idea is that you copy your commander (as Orvar), letting the commander go back to the command zone. But the big hole in this deck is that once the Orvar token is removed, your deck is broken. I don't think this deck is viable.
@woselslab6398

As far as I understand, it all happens on 1 turn; maybe you cannot finish the game, but it gives you enough advantage that your oponents cannot turn the tables: you use your commander's ability: Scion of the ur-dragon transforms into Orvar. Your commander does not go back to the command zone, it just becomes a copy (until the end of turn) of Orvar. While your Scion is Orvar you begin to copy your permanents infinitely by casting spells that target them. You can finish the game on the same turn by having infinite mana and using the ability of the dragon that pings your oponents for 4. Or you just can pass the turn having infinite mana, knowing that you'll probably end the next turn. I hope I helped to clarify ^^

ya that all makes sense but that is such a slim win con. i feel like there has to be more to it. like can you cast an instant on your commander while he is a copy of orvar to make him stay around longer than one turn? mitch does not make this clear. @@woselslab6398

Tempting to make this just for the weird cool combo, but it slots into that variety of deck I have and barely play: repetitious decks that play a very similar game each time. I'm also not a fan of infinite wins. I might just make it anyway just for the reactions with each of my playgroups lol. The decks I play the most are those that have a lot of good options and can deal with many situations. I got a lot of milage out of your Mirror entity deck (I even made a mono white version of it with Lin Sivvi, Defiant Hero to tutor, and I can usually get play groups to allow a rule zero "Wizard from Beyond" background that allows a non-legendary creature to be your commander in a 5 color deck, even though it was only printed for WotC employees for the holidays [the bonus ability it has to double Mirror Entity's X ability is maybe too strong for some casual play so I ignore it now]). Decks that I love playing the most end up being graveyard self mill decks, because you can get so much utility from cards there, and they are pretty budget friendly. You can easily get cards from the graveyard back into play, you can have a bunch of creatures that get bigger based on how many cards are there (usually based on how many creatures are in your graveyard so I try to make them the overwhelming majority of cards), you can give your creatures flying or trample because a certain card is in your graveyard, you can get more mana because your graveyard is stacked; It makes it feel like your hand is bigger and you have a lot of options on your turn. And it is a great casual speed that doesn't draw hate in the early game. One commander that has worked for me: Sidisi, Brood Tyrant chosen because it milled and had the colors I wanted, but turned out to be a perfect way to throw off opponents. They see me going wide with tokens and remove her or board wipe, but by then I don't even need her any more because graveyards are healthy and I'm dropping stuff that benefits from that. Also, you can cast flash creatures that can counter graveyard hate (even a Bojuka Bog land drop is stopped by Overcharged Amalgam or Ertai Resurrected). There are also ways to punish opponents with a ton of damage for removing your graveyard. And you get Torrent Elemental. Phenax, God of Deception is another fun one because you use the same "this creature's power and toughness are equal to" either creatures in your graveyard or creatures in opponents' graveyards or all graveyards (or even *cards* in all graveyards), but most end up being in the first category. So you usually mill yourself making your creatures huge to then mill your opponents to death. Anything that untaps your creatures is great, and consuming aberration doubles in size everytime it taps. As in the first deck you can get creatures that turn into other creatures in your graveyard (or your opponents') at a moments notice for utility. Golgari Also has great options with this approach. Jarad is explosive. But I'm sorry for throwing shade like that on this video's deck. I'm sure everyone has a different play style preferred deck type. I really would like to thank you for your channel and your great videos. I have put together a lot of your decks and have developed a similar budget mindedness to how you limit most of your builds. I've had so many hours of fun playing them and learning what I like most about EDH. I'm curious if anyone else has a particular favorite playstyle they've found after building a number of commander decks. Personally I liked building very defensive decks at first, but am now starting to enjoy playing decks that allow me to be more aggressive with little or no downside.

I was wondering the same thing. I suppose the goal here is to build up to a bunch of cost reducers and mana multipliers and then use Scion to copy Orvar only once you're ready to go infinite. Once you have the mana setup, you can cast your commander a single time, activate for Orvar, turn a land into a dude, copy it forever with a buyback spell, then activate Scion again for the dragon shaman to burn out the opponents. Unless I'm missing something...

@Djinn-xf2kd
@Djinn-xf2kd 5 ай бұрын
I am sure everyone’s pod is made up of the best players playing the best decks having the best draws. But some people live in the real world where you still need to draw the removal cards to get rid of things while you are playing three other opponents who have things you might want to remove as well. Ovar doesn’t come out on turn one, meaning that a lot of interaction is happening so there is a good chance then when he does, he is safe.

I'm honestly still struggling with this dick it feels very glass Cannon like. if someone deals with your dragon it shuts your whole process down not to mention the fact that if you play this more than a couple times everyone's going to expect the gimmick. it's a great surprise deck but I feel like after a while people would just know oh you're casting your commander I need to make sure I have a counter spell ready. Plus if you go for the win and make one mistake and can't immediately win in that turn then you have to worry about trying to get recursion from your graveyard to restart the whole combo I might be missing something here but after reading the comments that's the gist I've gotten from this seems like a fun idea at first but over time would just become obvious

That's right, +1/+1 for each and every one of those buyback spells you cast. Insane! I want this deck. I want it for the soul purpose of taking it to my local commander game night, showing my opponent the commander and having them assume "oh, great, a dragon deck", and then searching for Orvar and saying "GOT'CHA, B****!" Not normally my style, but there are some salty players at my local commander game night that deserve some humbling like this.
