Down here in the Gippsland area of Victoria, the “squirt worm” is more commonly known as sand worms and is a sought after bait for many estuarine species. It is ridiculously priced if buying from bait outlets and when you find a patch to pump for yourself, you tend to keep the location under wraps. Thanks again for a very entertaining and informative video.

Great video mate as always, super informative and always a blast to watch, I have an idea for a video you could make if you were interested, “How to handle different fish” as in when you’ve actually caught them best way to hold them to avoid getting spiked from a flatly for example or avoid getting bitten by a Taylor, a lot of new fisherman make the mistake of not knowing how to hold certain fish although it is simple would be interesting video from someone as experienced as yourself catching all the common species and showing how to best handle them

Roger, You continue to deliver excellent videos. That last bream looked like it was over 40. Many fishing journos keep saying that there is nothing wrong with keeping a feed sort of indicating that releasing the fish is the moral thing to do. I have changed over the years and I think fishing for food is the correct thing to do and tormenting a fish just for sport is not the right thing. I am very very far removed from being a "greenie". Just my opinion.

Agreed with the fishing for sport thing. If I go fishing it’s for food and when I’ve caught enough I stop and go home. Dragging fish by their lips out of the water, tormenting them, stressing them out and throwing them back for personal amusement is sick IMO. I’m far from being a greenie too, I just think there’s better things to do with my time than torture fish and throw them back for fun. The only way I’ll throw a fish back is if it’s too small or a no take, the rest go into my esky for dinner.

Do not understand why you wade out so far to the channel then walk back to the rod holder. Fish should be up on the flats feeding over sand that is exposed at low tide, moving around in the high slack water as you described. Channels are highways for whiting, not feeding grounds unlike say, flathead. I fish the rising tide, walking backwards as the tide rises then near the top of the tide I wade further into the water and cast back to the shore as water covers the dry sand exposing more feeding territory. My local tides in QLD rise 4 metres but a 1 metre tide in NSW works the same. I lived and fished there most of my life. Squirts were great bait. No squirts up here.
