Both sides are only giving you the upside of what they want not the downsides. The doctor claims medicare for all is the fix but reality is that doesn't pay the bill's if we sustain the cost we have now in medicine. Currently healthcare providers are under paid by medicare so they charge the difference to people that have health insurance. Healthcare is a business if you remove the profit they go under unless government is going to take over the entire system such as the UK. Now everyone in healthcare works for the government does that fix the waste not historically. Also who will want to innovate any new drugs if there is no profit to be made. 1000's of drugs are bet on by investors only 1% ever brought to market. There won't be any investors if there is no return on the profits.

I’ve been treated through the NHS. I could not believe how kind and professional everyone I encountered was. I’ve been to the ER in America. I’ve been to the British equivalent (A and E). I’ve found the waiting times no different than in the waiting times in America. I’ve had back surgery for sciatica and it changed my life. The ambulance service is top notch. If you find yourself in a life threatening situation and need a helicopter ride; you will get one. If you get Cancer, as my partner did, you will receive top notch care. If you can’t see your GP, or primary care physician, we have walk in centres open 24/7. We also have a free phone line to call a medical professional if you aren’t sure if you should go to the doctor. I also only pay a little over 8 pounds for my prescriptions no matter what drugs I’m paying for. I just can’t scream it loud enough!!!! Vote progressive!!!! Vote Bernie. @@jackmcslay first of all, because the barriers for entry into the market for food are so low that anyone with a plot of dirt and access to seeds can enter the market for, say, strawberries, guaranteeing that the market for strawberries will never become a cartel. The market for medicine, however, requires that you have an advanced knowledge of chemistry, access to world-class funding, a constant influx of expertise, spectacular subdivision of labor, and the benefits of an economy of scale. There is no way that it's going to be competitive. Auto insurance is forced on us. We have to have it by law or we can’t drive. How is that a free market system?
@AtheistEve5 жыл бұрын
I hear that Australia has a form of basic 3rd party car insurance that covers _all_ drivers. So that 3rd parties are always covered as a standard base line and, if people want more comprehensive cover, they can get it privately. Maybe an Ozzy can clarify that position?
@Eric-ye5yz5 жыл бұрын
@@AtheistEve….. When you register your car, it includes third party insurance, that just insures anyone you hurt (if at fault) gets compensation. You would be a fool not to have Comprehensive insurance though.

Eric So, is that an Australian system? I’ve driven many cars that were only worth insuring 3rd party. In the UK the basic cover was 3rd party, fire and theft and, in the past, the difference in cost was enough to make it an acceptable risk. Nowadays, the last time I asked about TPF&T, the insurer wasn’t offering it as an option.
@LJLion5 жыл бұрын
Auto insurance isn't a necessity if you don't have a license or a car. You can always ride a bus, take a train, use Uber or Lyft. Ailment or sickness isn't exactly something you can dismiss, put aside or stay away from; because everybody get sick at some point of their life. It's part of our nature, our being. As much as we can be healthy, we could be sick.
@cassandrachayakhan15195 жыл бұрын
I second what Lionnel L says. Auto insurance is not forced on you regardless of your circumstances. If you choose to buy a car, then yes, you need insurance. You can (I certainly have) choose to use public transit services instead (bus, subway, train -- if you're close enough to your job, you can bike to work (when the weather's decent enough for biking). I suggest you re-read a good definition of "free market" : *Both parties undertake the exchange (goods or services) because each expects to gain from it. Also, each will repeat the exchange next time (or refuse to) because his expectation has proved correct (or incorrect) in the recent past.* Unlike car insurance (which you only need if you actually own a car), the 'Murican 'healthcare' system forces you to pay hundreds (if not a thousand or more) of $$ a month in exchange for the 'right' to actually be seen in a timely fashion if you need to go to the ER. I am guessing that your car insurance premiums for an entire year could be paid for by one month of health insurance premiums. The point is moot for me. I moved to the UK after my healthy-person, bottom-tier plan premiums passed $6000 / year. Now I have excellent, free health care from the NHS -- and my prescriptions, to-date have been free as well.
@MasterOfSparks5 жыл бұрын
Q: Why can't the "free market" work? A: Because the "free market working" means insurance companies making money. It doesn't mean people get affordable health care. The "free market" is only concerned with the first. Not the second.

This costs me 2% of my income, far less than you pay for basic cover and as our minimum wage is just under $19 an hour no-one minds the deduction. And not once have I had to choose just between a couple of Dr's, go to one hospital over the other because the Government said so because of surgery or pay everything for all of my med's. In essence I have had the equivalent of Single Payer Universal Health Care so I can say from experience that it WORKS! Heck there was one time in witch I went on a college school trip outside of the U.S, and I ended up needing some of my med's, I went to Costa Rica and they have a Universal Health Care set up and because of that I was able to get enough med's for the 7 day's that I was going to stay there at a much lower cost. I also went over to some countries in Europe, such as Ireland, England, Germany, Italy, & few others, because of what happened in Costa Rica & knowing that these other countries have some type of Health Care I looked into it and found out that if the same thing had happened to me at one of these countries I would have gotten the same thing. I would have been able to have gotten enough med's for my stay without "Braking the Bank" so to speak. And since I wouldn't be surprise if someone where to get on here and say something to the effect "I bet he doesn't pay any taxes" well I say to that person "guess what I do pay taxes!, maybe not a extreme about but I do and I don't get any of that completely, %100 free as you would imply!!".

It all ignores the fundamental principle that one person should not be made to fund another person's personal health care. What's next? Should everyone receive public funding so they can all drive a Ferrari, too?

That would be awesome, but let's do baby steps and focus on getting affordable health care for everyone first.
