Thank you. Two years ago we adopted my service dog at the pound. He was very sick. It took him 18 months to blossom. They are special.

I have a very similar story with my boy Ripley. He was about ten months old when I found him and had obviously been neglected, if not straight up abused - he had never had his hair cut, was starving, scared, and shied away from people for a long time. He's a shih-tzu mix, but we originally thought he was a bigger breed because he had so much hair and it made him look bigger than he was. He's nine and a half now and he's the best dog I have ever had the blessing of knowing. I thank God every day that he is mine. I love that boy dearly. Theres something special about rescues that sets them apart from other dogs.

@Lesgo Brandon What the hell is wrong with you? She didn't want to go because people neglected her maybe even abused her, OF COURSE she'll have a problem with trusting people again! She was evidently struggling, many, especially smaller dog breeds (edit: which Shih Tzu definitely is) can't survive outside on their own and you would have left her there? We did this to them, we bred them like this, so now we have to take care of them. And I am not even mentioning that you took race discussion into this... taking your complexes out on other people for no reason is pretty pathetic y'know

I've enjoyed the companionship of two shid tzus. My older gal died a couple years ago at 16. My younger one is still well at nearly 12. She's about the most friendly and chill critter I've ever met. She and my nearly 18yo ginger cat are best buddies, too. 😸

My nephew's dog couldn't keep his dog, so I took him. His toenails were so long, like bear claw. I took him to the groomer the following week & told them to clip those nails. He went from a quiet, shy, frightful dog to being so happy. His nails before must have hurt. Totally different attitude now.

I had a dog similar to the one the groomer is grooming, I had tried on numerous occasions to take her to get groom, but she wanted no parts of it, she bit the groomer so many times, they had me bring her back so she would of gotten to know them and trust them. With my little girl this was not happing, so I went online to learn how to trim her. She was such a sweetheart when it came to trimming her, she only allow me to trim her. She lived till she was 18 years old. I still her with me in her beautiful little box.

Absolutely agree, so caring, the nurse was petting her all the way through the shaving .. no Nick's to the skin, such gentle care. She cudnt of got better people to look after her.

Just to let you know my dog has hair just like this. And if something was to happen to me, this would happen. I tell my friends and family. That I must comb her hair every day. If a week went by there would be atleast 20 mats. I tell them so they know. That she must be combed out. Otherwise this would happen like this Dog. So don't assume this is neglect or abuse. Some Dogs never get issues like this one. So not all People are aware. That this can happen to a Dog. Unless they have experienced this type of fur. So please be a little kinder.

Before a person takes responsibility of something especially a living organism, they should research to get an idea of how to take care of it.

Right! Before getting a pet we need to be mentally prepared that we're making around a 20 year commitment. Heck, it's like adopting a baby. When you adopt one, you don't plan on leaving them - at least not until death separates the two.

I love my Dog like my own Kids. 2 years ago I fell on the ice. And spent 3 days in the hospital. I signed myself out. And refused rehab. Because I wanted to get home to my Puppy that was 6 months old. Thank God I have good Insurance. And was able to do it at home. My Friends and Family tried. But I was already aware of her fur issues. Because I let her play in the snow. Weeks before my fall. I call her "My little Gremlin" Because when I got her in the house. She was head to toe mats. Any water that gets on her. Instantaneously turns her fur into mats. Do some of your own research. Before you accuse. This situation could of been an old person that took sick and died in their house. And the Dog was left in the house. Untill the Family could find a home. With my situation It was a blessing in disguise. Because I learned what my Dog was capable of. Intelligence wise. And I am teaching her to be a Therapy Dog. For visiting sick Children. Not everything is always what it seems.

Side note: It absolutely breaks my heart to see animals get like this. People don't understand how much it effects the animals health. This is why more often than not animals that are OVERLY matted and grown out are so lethargic.

This really touched my heart, I love dogs. I have a Pitt bull named Rusty 8 1/2 years old and we have such a remarkable relationship he is so loving caring. I wish I could have this dog as company for Rusty.

That little animal and the person who is restoring her to life and love is just so beautiful, my heart is filled with joy and love for God almighty all praise be to the creator of life and love for all creation. It sure was can't believe how well behaved after such sadness she's been through. I have two girl shitzu girls they are well maintained would never let them get like much so my younger bit naughtier then older one she don't like being still but I get there grooming in the end. I would rehome that baby I live in England. I would imagine by now she as new home who could refuse such gentle soul as her.

I don't see how he was overly gentle or kind. He just did it and didn't say much. When I cut my dog I pet her and tell her how good she is. It's like a special close time together because she enjoys the relaxing buzz of the shaver. Maybe I go overboard being nice to her. I'm not one to be treating a dog like a baby, but she adores me so I must be doing something right.

I think she has been groomed many many times in her past. She’s been looked after and loved at some point - I wonder what her story is… so sad

She was scared of dryer as she took a 'swipe' nibble at his stomach telling him please stop. But he was beyond amazing with her. Gentle calming easy caring and a dog nurturer. I would take her if...😍😍😍

The dog is totally shut down. Look at her at the end, trying to hide with her tail between her legs. She is not being well behaved, she is extremely depressed and shut down. Dogs have their own body language- poor baby has been through a lot

My guess is she was sedated some. It appeared that way to me in the beginning and especially in the end when he got to her face the camera cut out for a second beforehand.

I had a rescue dog and her fur was like this too. When i found her. I groomed her and it was so satisfying shaving all those knots and mats out. She must of been so itchy!! And the legs are difficult to do and also the underbelly lol

Not sure how this got recommended to me, but that really hit me hard. My entire life has had dogs in it. They are faithful companions, said to be Man's Best Friend. The rub is not all men are worthy of a dog. That poor dog must have felt so much relief.

Yeah even the tail position indicates fear and withdrawal. I suspect given all the care these humans are giving her she'll come out of it. Love will conquer!

I agree, I couldn't find the right words but she is very shut down. All that noise and attention would have any other dog freaking out. I was really thinking that she had been given drugs to keep her quiet. I hope she will find the most loving person to take her home and shower her with so much love.

I would say sedated. I don’t care calm a dog is, not one is that calm while getting those painful knots removed. He did a wonderful job, but the dog is sedated.

@@connieellis9485 I believe he said it came from the Vet, therefore the Vet might have sedated it. If it nipped him while sedated, imagine how fearful this dog would have been without. Yes getting all those dread locks out of the dog is stressful for the dog. He did an amazing job with this dog. I am not a dog groomer but used to groom one of my dogs. She was up in age and would just sleep the whole time. 🥰

You did not cry alone 😢. It was truly hurtful to see a dog in that condition and pain. The groomer's compassion and care was soothing to my soul and to know that her future was bright turned my tears into a smile.

@@AmandaCharlotteChester def no sedation. They would need a shaved arm/leg before they started to stick the needle, which the dog didn't have. They would also never draw blood or inject to sedate on such an unclean dog. Risk of infection for sure. Also they have no medical history on this animal. Just like humans, we have allergies or heart and lung problems that all need to be account for before any type of medication ESPECIALLY sedation or we could die. Finally, and this is trivial, but no bandage on the dog. An injection site should have a pressure gauze on it for at least 20 min especially if the dog is nervous because they can begin to bleed out again. U aren't going to sedate a dog and wait any longer than several minutes to begin a procedure.

Is the dog well? It seems to be sick or depressed. I know she's been thru a lot, but all of that hair gone she must have lost 5 to 7 lbs of weight, plus she didn't eat her dog treat. Seems like all she wanted to do was hide. The poor mite.

He said in the update above that it was found out she had a virus and is receiving medication now. The infection probably made her tired.

@@tabby73 it's bacteria's not a virus. Anaplasmosis is bacteria from tick bites. Viruses get antivirals and bacteria gets antibiotics. She's getting antibiotics twice a day to treat it.

Lethargy is a symptom of anaplasmosis hence why she seems down. She's already unwell and then you add the extra burden of being heavily matted. It's like she has a severe case of the flu. Thankfully it's treatable and she is getting treatment.

With that much matted fur, it's no surprise. They've probably been treated poorly in the past.

When she got the dog treat she hesitated to take it then put it on the floor. Almost like she'd never gotten one and had no idea what to do with it. So sad
