Wow I didn't think there were still cars that slow... ouch. I have a Leaf too, and I consider it slow but it does have a nice consistent surge of momentum when you're on the go pedal. I've always found it sufficient for getting on the freeway at least. That Crosstrek scares me. If you own a Crosstrek, avoid short on ramps please.

Former owner of a 2013 Crosstrek here. I loved the car at first, but then as time went on, I couldn’t stand how slow it was! I eventually traded it in for a Honda Civic with a turbo charged engine.

Subaru really needs to offer the Wrx engine in the Crosstrek, even with just the CVT. It would sell well & be much more fun to drive.

Subaru has even said they know there’s a lot of demand for a turbo Crosstrek, but they won’t make it because it’s too popular. Their words, not mine. It’s a damned if you, damned if you don’t thing. Buy the Crosstrek, Subaru has no incentive to change it. Don’t buy the Crosstrek, they stop making it. Look I love my current Crosstrek, but I would trade it in for a turbo model with a regular automatic transmission in a heartbeat.

I recently had to purchase a new commuter. I looked at a used leaf. Sadly its range is only about 30 feet. I drive 40 miles round trip.

The batteries are known for degradation especially in the early years, 2011-2014. 2015 brought a Lizard pack that held up MUCH better, but still limited range even when all was new. I got a new pack for my 2012 in 2017, under warranty from Nissan. Most I ever got out of it even new was about 70 miles… said it had more, maybe 6-10 miles, but I stopped and charged it. Now I have about 15% degradation. Still runs fine, just can’t take it on longer trips without planning for charging.

@@stout_tossme7541 I can definitely understand. I kept all my ICE vehicles. I considered my (used, not new and was very cheap) Leaf as kind of an experiment. After almost 5 years, I’ve put over 40,000 miles on it. Anything over 30 miles one way, and either I’m planning for a charging stop or taking something else. But my work is close to home, home is close to town so it’s great for just daily running around. No gas, no oil changes, and it’s still got the original brake pads with a total of 77,000 miles.

Possibly, but the transmission was always the weak point on 90s cars. They would often take several seconds to find a gear during hard acceleration, costing speed and time. A stick V6 90s car would be perfect.

2013 Leaf owner here: It’s surprisingly quick from 0 to about 30 mph. It’s no Tesla, but it’s much quicker than you’d expect from 100 HP.

The way to really do this as a goofy drag race series would be to keep trying to find street legal, and working as intended, production cars that are slower when driven flat out. Get the fans involved with "I think my vehicle is slower then yours in a drag race!"

I thought my daily was slow from the factory. Chevy Trax stock is like 8.8. with a tune, it is about 6.0. I can't imagine 13s or more.

Remember it’s high altitude ,you WILL loose about 10 to 20 percent horse power and torque on a natural aspirated engine. 11 second is probably normal at sea level where the oxygen is high. The higher you go the less oxygen level decreases and less ignition o the burn ratio from gasoline and oxygen ratio. If you live in high altitude regions of any country ,always get a turbo engine if it’s available on that car.

Im curious why yall opted to use a base and not mention that the Sport version for only a few grand over base comes with the 2.5L 182bhp engine. 30bhp over the base engine.

As a former WRX wagon owner, Subaru should be embarrassed by the crap powertrains they’re putting in their cars today. They lack both efficiency and fun and the symmetrical awd is meaningless when there is no power. The only time it MAY come into play would be on zero friction surfaces. Subaru needs to shift to electric powertrains or at least a hybrid where the motor is simply a generator, and use the power and torque of an electric powertrain.

They really need to invest in some other transmissions besides the CVT. If you could put the Bronco Sport powertrain and transmission (especially the Badlands trim) in a Crosstrek, it would be so much better

Fun! And also informative - I was thinking a Crosstrek (6spd manual, of course) with a roof tent would be fun to drive across Canada and the US - not anymore. Would be good for short camping trips, but I would claw my eyes out being that slow across the country.

I once did a drag race between a stock Ford Tempo and a Toyota Corolla. First to the max speed on the speedometer. The Tempo won simply because it only went to 80mph. 🤣

Get the Crosstrek. I would get the 2.5L though. Unless your daughter is taking it mudding, rock crawling, or out to Moab, you really don’t need a true off roader, and the Crosstrek is a great Winter car with good mileage and better styling than just about every crossover in its segment

I pretty surprised how slow that Subaru is, the horsepower is there, it should do alot better than it is. I got a old Mazda that's rated around 85hp that I'm pretty sure can smoke it.

Crosstrek owner here, it’s really slow. But, I’ve had it off road in the mud, sand and some decent hills and it performed amazing. Never got stuck. And I average 28mpg.

@@ratkicker007 Oddly enough, a Corvette driven at an even highway speeds gets surprisingly good gas mileage! They're so low and slick, and have a good overdrive gear. 26mpg and more is not that unusual.

I have a 2019 crosstrek and it has never struck me as being slow at all, I know it is slower than alot of vehicles but it is also faster than alot of them too. I'm never holding up traffic in the fast lane on the highway, and am usually able to pass most things (without flooring it) when accelerating from a stop after a red light. It handles so well too, especially the rural winding/hilly roads where I live. Kinda wish I would have waited another year to get the sport version!

You don't have to compare yourselves to carwow or even mention them Roman, it cheapens the whole video experience. They're in a different league and are doing different stuff with their cars. You are doing different stuff which we love and that's perfectly fine.
