You guessed it, I crashed. I was having a great ride but made a mistake that left me on the ground with a really deep cut. I sat in the waiting room for over 12 hours waiting for a doctor to come staple it back together. All things considered, seven staples in my forearm is a good outcome. I should be back riding by the second week of June.
Through the video I go back and have a quick review of what happened and show how I've properly ridden it in the past. There is also some behind the scenes audio with my emergency contact and what I'm up too while things are healing up!

As and old school guy hanging on to youth. Arm/elbow pads are a must, a surgeon told me once elbows are the worst joint to damage. Very difficult to repair and very long recovery. It may not be cool but armour up

Get gloves too. Had my finger ripped in half on a similar crash - an armored glove would have turned it into a glancing blow and I'd probably have ridden the rest of the day. As it was, spent four months recovering and was unable to drive for 3 weeks +

Forty years mountain biking, some cracked ribs, multiple broken helmets, bike frames, cuts, scrapes and more.... And this video was still hard for me to watch. Awesome riding and video, glad you are OK. Another proponent for pads here. My wife got tired of me ending up in the ER so she asked me to start wearing pads. I hated it at first but now I love it. I've taken some extremely rough falls that would have ripped my knees and/or elbows down to the bone but walked away with nothing but maybe a bruise. Plus, it's kinda a rush to take a bad fall and then pop back up with no damage done. Now, I've got to figure out how to protect myself from vertebrae compression fractures. I got one of those falling off an eight-foot ledge and I've been off my bike for over 3 months. I'm thankful it wasn't worse but damn hiking is boring. 👍

It can save a guy from an injury which will put him out of commission for weeks or even months, and anyone who truly loves riding, wants to ride as often as they can, so it literally is ungodly stupid to not use protective equipment and avoid being laid up, and bummed out because you want to ride , but can't!

Bloody lucky mate! Done exactly the same here in Scotland years ago shot my collar bone through my skin it snapped in 2 places, dislocated my shoulder and tore the muscle clean off the bone! It was 15 year ago now still remember it like yesterday but it's only this year I bought a new emtb to get back on a bike it left me scarred for life that mentally aswell! I've not been out on my new bike yet as just set it up changed few things bars stem so on then the weather's turned to rain constantly for about a fortnight as far as we know just now its depressing! But yeah the hospital sent me home for a week with a dislocated shoulder they thought it was a just the collar bone because the way they took the xray from up top didn't show the balljoint sticking out the back of my shoulder I was in absolute agony living with it for a while week popped out n round the back! Then it when they did eventually pop it back in it kept popping out they wouldn't pin it as kept going back in easy or something but in my mind I was like a cartoon image of me pulling the front up and my arm still being attached to the bars! Lol 2024 now 2008 when happened it's kept me off a bike along time finished my DH race days! So this time it's the ebike never riden one or the new geometry or fox suspension it feels so different sitting on the bike being carbon aswell so nice! Definitely a start of a new journey for me after a bad one! Good to see your good 👍

Good idea getting proper medical attention. I got a nasty gash on my arm, (not as bad as yours, but quite deep), while riding a couple years ago. Didn’t clean it properly and ended up oozing pus. Still, have a cool scar to show for it…

I never ride without protectors and full armor, something can always go wrong and it's a waste of time to recover and after a fall you get up and keep riding. Sometimes people laugh at the fact that he is dressed like a knight, but anyone who has hit a tree hard a few times or landed on his face without and wearing protectors knows the difference. ikona Zweryfikowane przez społeczność

It always happens when you least expect it. Got new gen 4 trek rail last month. I was riding very steep trail and some stupid mom let her very small probably 2 year kid get into the trail. Went was getting down from the steep part where alot of stones, trees and roots were in the way and this kid came in there. I hit both breaks, but the bike wouldnt stop i would kill the kid as im 100 kg big guy and the bike is heavy so turned to the side and there was nowhere to ride and the bike pretty much volted and i had pretty bad crash over the bar into stones and trees and the bike landed on the arm. Luckly i was only bruised and had just some muscle pain. Could have ended really bad. The first thing on the mind was the bike though. I thought 10k bike went bye bye on first day. The crashes that you dont expect are the worst.

@@jordanchaplinmtb I'm thinking a soft padded guard (CE level 1)would have reduced how deep the cut was on your arm and would not need stiches. Here in the USA a trip to the ER for something like that can easily cost anywhere from $500-$1000 out of pocket with insurance. So I usually wear my $50 elbow pads as it's cheap insurance even if I look like a dork.
@jordanchaplinmtb

@@taol8258 yup totally fair and not a bad choice by any means. Not something I’m interested in doing, I’ll take the odd handful of staples to feel free and mobile on the bike. But I totally get it.

This is crazy. Don't you care about concussions and headaches? The headaches can last your whole life. Deep dark depression and sometimes they put good people in prison because head injuries make them lash out. I would be careful and think what your doing. You're not a raccoon. A raccoon can fall off a tree and get up like nothing. I mountain bike and would love to do all that crazy stuff but I have a great respect and understanding for the woods and how they were made to prevent artificial speed. It's a horrible gamble. Running on trails is very natural and fun so try that maybe? Maybe talk to people at the hospital that are stuck in their house all day with debilitating injuries and ask them what they think. It seems like maybe you got a warning from God or mother nature so be careful. What happens is that people do this crazy stuff and realize the mistake...only after they have alot of time to think due to the debilitating injury that shut down their life.

I wear sleeve pads to cover my forearms and knee pads along with padded shorts . The protection has saved me many injuries and stitches. It amazes me that riders choose not to wear protection. Enjoy those injuries. I have zero sympathy for you
