I have been selling on eBay off and on for the last 10 years. Recently I have been wanting to get into on a steady bases. I have been watching others that sell mainly on that platform. And your absolutely right that it takes the same amount of time to list a $100 item that it takes for a $10 item! This video is a godsend because before i saw this i was just going to sold listings to see if the item sold recently with high frequency and for the most part it worked but it was still a toss-up and i struck out with many products however, factoring in the sell through rate like both of you demonstrated will definitely change the game and help me make better decisions going forward. This is the best video. I tried this out on a pair of jeans I have listed. The STR sucks so I will get rid of them. I have learned so much. I need to rethink my model.

We've been selling on eBay for about 2 years but only really serious for about the last 2 months. something that's made a huge difference in our growth in the last 90 days is keeping track of our numbers. I don't know where I've been the last two years... 😂 But I've never heard anyone explain the sell through percentage. Even though " sell through " is talked about all the time. Definitely something I'm going to be playing with and looking at in our own business model.

I knew about about the sold comps info, but to have a threshold and concentrate on the faster selling items just put it together for me. Should've realized this much sooner as it's common sense...but I seem to missing mine. LOL

so take 90 day sold qty and divide it by available active listings which equals a number with a decimal so to get the percentage you multiply that by 100 to get the sell thru percentage rate. SOLD #75 ACTIVE # 37 37 divided by 75 = 0.493 0.493 x 100 = 49.3% sell thru rate! GOT IT! 👏🎉😊 I never knew for sure how to do it so thank you!

Something to keep in mind big sellers on eBay will hide there solds or have it only show one sold even though they have sold multiple quantities. I say this because I sell a lot of trading cards and people who break down boxes of cards and have multiple quantities of what they are selling they might be hiding solds meaning the sell through rate might be better than what you are able to see.

I have been using this general approach in a more intuitive way, but I had been considering implementing and setting a threshold as part of my business model, rather than just kind of winging it. Thank you for sharing - very helpful! I will implement this, probably first against all my dead pile inventory that I accumulated when I first started a year ago as well as potential new inventory.

I have a couple re-sell friends who have been trying to teach me "Sell Through Rate" for like months now!...BOOM! Not saying they are bad teachers because they are not - I am a bad student! ( FYI - funny thing is I helped get them both started re-selling a couple years back - the master has become the student situation) BUT - How you guys explained it was just a total eye opener. I comp my buys like anybody else but never using the sell through rate and never beyond the "sold filter" . I just put it into practice for a couple items I bought today and one I know I want to buy tomorrow from a FB Marketplace ad... So far so good. I bought correctly today and will be buying tomorrow tomorrow as well!. THANK YOU!!! 😎👍

One thing that helps is to look at the same condition. One clothing item I sell pretty often looks terrible in terms of sell through rate. It shows 13k available and 400 sold in 90 days. Doesn't make sense. BUT, if you look at pre-owned only. Then there are 500 available and 400 sold. Turns out new ones don't sell, but used ones sell like hot cakes!

Great information, maybe some.of the best out here in the KZfaq world. My only suggestion is that your audio volume was a little low, but other than that I'm very appreciative of this information. New sub here!

Remember the solds are 90 days. A 150% rate does not mean there is more Demand than supply. @17:00 , " For every one listed , two will sell " Now that is funny math. I use 30% as a minimum , which means the odds are 10% will sell per month. In other words , if I list 100 of these Items , the odds are 10 will sell in 30 days. This may seem low , but we can source 100 "garbage " items for $80 and sell 10 for $120 in the first 30 days.

I'm going to follow your method. I've been selling on ebay for 16 years, but mainly in high end jewelry. I never used this method and have Def had pieces that won't move. Always compare prices of sold and am top rated, but yeah, if it's a piece I am not familiar with, I don't check the demand! Great idea!!! Thanks!!!

Excellent information and presentation. To answer you inquiry, no I don't implement a STR. The reason being that just finding something that I can flip for a profit in my area is extremely difficult, near impossible at the local goodwill stores - they have their own website where they sell anything of value at high prices. If I had the extra requirement of a STR, I would never pick anything up. Implementing an STR and a minimum pricing level is excellent advice that anyone who can should follow. Be thankful that you live somewhere where you can implement those.
