Share buyback matlab share ko erase karne dena. if a company have 100 share. promotor have 50 shares and retail have 50 shares if buyback happens for 2 share the the total no. shares would 98.. Now you hold 1/98th part of company not 1/100th part

If the Company does the buyback, then, in that case, the company is liable to pay tax at a flat rate of 23.296% [Rate of tax - 20% (plus surcharge @ 12% plus Health and education cess @ 4%) of distributed income. Hence, the same is exempt in the hands of share holder. Earlier, It is same in case of dividend also i.e., company to pay DDT and exempt in the hands of holder. Now, company doesn't have to pay DDT and thus taxable in the hands of shareholders. So, government collects tax in both the cases. Either from company or from shareholders.
