If Nippon get a DLC there should be at lease two Legendary Lords one could be called demon King he should be an Oni and be based on Oda Nobunaga the other one should be the lost dragon of Cathay.

There so many different types of yo kai creatures that CA and GW can do with alone. Here's hoping that they do

I agree that it really lacks in human lords and units Artillery could also be a bit more inspired with stuff like a Karakuri puppet archer on a cart. I also think that the roster would be more interesting and unique if it didn't have the gunpowder units, instead focusing more on the usage of the Yumi bows.

GW and CA need to hired this's people to make their new factions for total war and old world

I would want to see either bound spells on the assassin or access to the lore of eshin. The ratmen stole from nippon in the first place so seeing those spells in a nippon faction filled to brim of ninjas should not be out of left field. Or have a legendary ninja lord with his own unique eshin sorcerer.

This is very impressive, and kind of reminds me of a more civilized version of Norsca. They still worship demons, but these demons are distinct from those found anywhere else.

Actually The idea of Of Nippon being a nation mainly populate by monster but few human peasants lived are actually cool. I mean Yeah Catahy sort of ruled by Dragon but almost 90% are human, yet It would be cool that Nippon have less than 50% roster are human and rest are monsters ...

I have a vision for a Nippon mod, particularly the campaign side, but have 0 capabilities. In essence, you'd be a Lord in Exile, using the expanded map mod you displayed that opened up Ind/Kuresh. Nippon was overrun by Undead, and the current Shogunate is ruled by a Vampire. The Emperor is still the Emperor of Petals, a powerful nature spirit that takes human form. The great tree and forest of Nippon was cut off from the world root system, so the Nature Spirits forged their own path, took a page from the Dragons of Cathay, and lord over Nippon from afar. Anyways, you'd have a Chorf like system with different settlement and resource types. Fortresses, where you can recruit units, and outposts which increase unit caps. War Camps produce Might, Refugee Towns produce War Supplies, Sanctuaries produce Zeal. All units would require war Supplies, with Oni and Shinobi(ninja) units requiring Might, and Monks/Nature Spirit units requiring Zeal. You'd have a map of Nippon, where you can spend War Supplies, Zeal, and Might to incite rebellions, take covert actions, and generally prepare for a reconquest. When you felt prepared enough, you could prepare for war. A portal would open up where you could send agents or armies into. When you did they'd be on that map, and the whole thing would play like the classic Shogun and Medieval games, where the main campaign map was like risk. I also wanted to have Ashigaru units be instantly recruited, but at a % of their main health, kinda like in 3Kingdoms, except the health percentage would be based on local public order. Meaning you couldn't recruit your basic units unless the order was positive. My interpretation of the Oni were that they were Ogers that the Emperor of Petals removed the Maul's Influence from. No longer Still hungry, but the Maw's Call is deafened by the Emperor's will. Ogre Crane Gunners stood out to me conceptually. Basically a Weapons team as Monsterous Inf with Melee capabilities. If anyone sees this and wants to steal elements for your own mods, go ahead. Shinobi would basically be like Chameleon Skinks. They'd have blow pipes, with variants that had Fire or Poison Smoke bombs as "bound spells"/abilities. 3 uses, area effect stuff. Naginata Samurai, but Bow Samurai would be a Hybrid Anti-Infantry unit with big ass Nodachi as their Melee weapons. Mounted and Dismounted variants, of course. PS: The way settlement types interacted was going to be a bit over engineered. Sanctuaries didn't like sharing space with Refugee Towns. Also there was a vision for narrative missions. You start off trying to take the High Elf Settlements at the straits bottom of there. Then you attack the Elven Isles. After this you get the option to Narratively Ally with Khalida (She hates Vampires, you hate vampires), Defensive Alliance(50% off for allied units, and Tomb Kings units get affected by your leadership skills), at the expense of a permanent negative modifier to Public Order(Your people hate ALL undead, the bigots). You could claim Sacred Trees and their surrounding areas(which can only be made into Sanctuaries) to get permanent bonuses to Public Order.

If after the Nippon faction release there is an other DLC the Legendary Lord he could be based on William Adams and be either a Imperial or Britonnian, also there should a hero Shrine Maiden and two new units one called Shinigami it could be based on the Mardagg, and the other one would be a monstrous unit called Necomata it would have lore of fire spells.

I like the idea of a “human” nation ruled by demon-like nobles. Not WH style demons, but, like, obviously non-human elites. Maybe doing a campaign mechanic that has an in-between of Kislev’s Boyar system and the Empire’s Imperial Authority. Implant Lords to provinces and balance their loyalty to avoid civil wars/rebellions, very much like real-world medieval Japan. Having landed lords increases pools of elite oni and yokai but still having cores of human troops.

Shrine and temple guardians could be an interesting inclusion which would be a sort of stone creature that could be pulled upon.

The turtle would also really fit not-Korea, and is an awesome concept

Why do we not have a Yamata no Orochi monster in any of the settings. I like the idea that is a combination of all the magic winds.

Have the kitsune start with 1 tail then gain more tails as it ranks up. Once it has 9 tails have it gain a choice to become a hero, or stay as a monstrous unit

Let me begin by saying this concept is awesome, I really like many of the units and the art quality is top notch. The "character sheet" displays were also very well done. That said I agree with you, this concept makes Nippon seem more like a Nation of Demons than Humans, which I don't think is right. Also there's a distinct lack of Female Lords/Agents/Units that could be present here, especially with things like Miko, Onna Bugeisha/Musha, Jorogumo and various other very popular character types, not to mention the fact that I think some kind of "Sun Empress" Caster Legendary Lord is sorely needed, to reference Amaterasu. Also because its Nippon I feel like the massively viral popularity of Anime should be tapped into and referenced somehow, as we all know plenty of Anime fans also play TWW3. But anyway, I don't mean to sound like I'm throwing shade here, I really do like this faction roster concept, with the art especially surprising me at many points. I just thought there were ways it could improve. Thanks for continuing to highlight mods and fun fan stuff like this, keep up the great work!

A Warrior Monk Legendary Lord/hero would be a great addition, perhaps with a high leadership bonus/boost but low armour. Onna Bushi lord or units would be great too. Shogun 2 has a great variation of units that could transfer over, some needing more reworks than others.

I think Oni should fill more of a... for a lack of better term "master race" role. They're the Daimyo and powerful spellcasters, your average samurai is a human in service to the Oni, and beneath them you have your peasant conscripts who are about on par with Cathayan peasant spearmen. I could even see some tension between human lords adopting gunpowder units and Oni who don't like these new weapons that are a lot more dangerous to them than a crossbow.

Hanya hero unit would be cool

A very cool concept! Great to see so many Yokai. If an official one gets made, I definitely want to see greater emphasis on the human part of the roster. Nippon is meant to be a predominantly human faction - but the Yokai definitely add a beautiful uniqueness. It could be an interesting cultural dynamic to have superstitious humans living in tension with a bunch of frightening monsters that dwell in the forests and mountains, and those monsters sometimes terrorising the populations, but other times being persuaded to join the armies of Nippon.

It would be really cool if the archer was called a yumihiki, which means bow puller in japanese and is a word that refereed to practitioners of the yumi bow style. The yumi is the lopsided longbow you can see in the video in a few places. Its thought to be shaped that way so it can be fired from horseback easier. Nippon would be such a cool dlc.

the "lion elephant" is the wooly mammoth adapted through story, interpretation, and creative art. its of course a mythos beast so i dont mean like that. it is quoted as the belief to be the "pygmy mammoth" that once frequented areas native to the people

My take on this concept Instead of the Oni general, a human one that has two variants, one with the same role of anti-infantry dual wielder, and another one another one wielding a Naginata with the role of armour piercing anti-large, both having a ranged option when mounted, the Daimyo, same mount options alongside a warhorse (rescaling the Komainu to be about the same size as a demigryph), and a human spellcaster lord, the Onmyō Master, with access to the eight winds+lore of heavens (for the sake of accuracy should also have lore of Yin and Yang options, but that would probably be too much). The kitsune hero (9 tailed) might work like the Cathayan dragons with the ability to transform from human to monster, since kitsune are most known for their ability to transform, while the unit variant (5 tailed) would only have the monster form. Maybe add a human melee specialist hero, the Kensei (Sword Saint) based on the "wandering swordmaster" archetype, or an anti-large one based on the Yamabushi, wandering Buddhist warrior monks who mostly used the Naginata as their weapon of choice. The oni units would be divided into Red Oni, lightly armoured, armed with the Kanabō (the large clubs), with armour piercing attacks and high charge bonus, Blue Oni, which would be the ones in full samurai armour with a few variants (Ōdachi, Naginata, Bow&Katana), and the Namahage, smaller, faster, feral and armed with dual cleavers (of course, anti-infantry). As high tier infantry, the Hatamoto Bushi, divided in Ōdachi (standard), Naginata (armour-piercing, anti-large), bow, and gun variants, with a mounted equivalent armed with either bow and spear, or bow and dual katana. Blue Oni Komainu Riders as monstrous cavalry. The Yamata no Orochi should be a RoR-like unit with only a single one being recruitable at any given time (like Queen Bess for VC). Instead of the Genbu as a unit, have the spirits of Genbu (Black Tortoise), Suzaku (Crimson Bird), Seiryū (Azure Dragon) or Byakko (White Tiger) as a powerful temporary summon tied to different rites, maybe with a different army buff and a bound spell tied to each of them (lore of Life for Genbu, lore of Fire for Suzaku, lore of Heavens for Seiryū and lore of Metal for Byakko)

I want there to be khorne samurai or blood samurai that follow the classic "once their katanas are drawn they must spill blood". It would be pretty badass.

Having taken a look at this army, it's actually really awesome. Warhammer's more "real world-based" factions tend to run the risk of falling too close to the historical fantasy side of things, which is the least interesting aspect of the setting to me; when you have things like dwarves, elves or the myriad expressions of Chaos, just playing "Chinese people" or "Japanese people" is frankly rather dull. Total War showed that it was possible to reskin such "ethnic factions" with the kind of weird-punk/dark fantasy vibe that makes Warhammer a fantasy setting, and this army works well with its central concept of having yokai as the ones in charge rather than just being "humans, but Asian". Cathay kind of did it first, but this still feels like its own thing, so I have to salute the fan who made it - it's better than Warhammer Army Project's take on Nippon. Admittedly, considering the last official Nippon army was just samurai, peasant draftees, shaolin monks named after British soda, and gunpowder keg-toting suicide bombers who could all only be taken as mercenaries for a Dark Elf army, it's easy to do a better Nippon than GW did.

I think a way to really make this faction unique is that the Oni aren't just demons but are actually humans possessed by demons that have manifested from twisted Honor of nippon and that honor is what keeps the demon in check from just running rampant and overtime the country after realizing the strength of the possessed but still have humanity in them have made this tradition. Possession really isnt as explored in Warhammer fantasy aside from Malus Darkblade or the "they were working for chaos the whole time" plot and its a shame as possessed in 40k are really sick and it would be cool to have that same concept in fantasy. Possession and excorism are also fairly present in Japanese culture and media and so are transformations so I can imagine this faction have samurai lords and heroes who begin as human who would be much faster on foot and have better buffs for their unit but can allow themselves to be possessed to pretty much become bulky killing machines but in turn your troops despite the culture surrounding demons are still tense when their leader suddenly becomes a giant demon so the buffs arent as strong. And because of Malus we know this is possible so I can really see potential in this idea. Perhaps other troops can also be possessed like your ninja can be possessed by kappa to gain their poison attacks? And you can have priest heroes who make switching forms faster. Ie either calling demons or exorcising them. Would be awesome I think and currently a unique factions for demons

If Nippon becomes a thing, I would want their Samurai commanders to be able to force a duelbecause samurai duels and all that. To balance it out, it can be used on anybody (single entity, commander, whole units) and winning grants you honor or something that gives you a buff but in exchange losing debuffs you, it has a set timer (with all the upgrades in the campaign like Skarbrands stuff), and a very long cooldown

Wow new units Army Empire of Cathay. Well done, I like it. Good evening everyone.

I worked on a Nipponese roster myself in the TW Forums once and later on did a 2nd one later that was more fleshed out. With backstory and such. The idea was taking the Shogun roster, look into more specific Japanese lore and looked into historical weapons and such and voila. Thus I ended up with a predominantly human roster that progressively became more technologically, magically, mystically advanced. Four types of generic lords. One being a human/yokai hybrid ala Shiftlings from Nioh. A Samurai Lord, one Onmyoji Lord that is a cross between a wizard and an Arch-Lector, and finally a Ninja Grandmaster that is a hybrid assassin/wizard with bound spells that can be used a limited number during combat. Five types of generic heroes. One being a Nipponese Ogre (not Oni since those would be their own thing) and a hero version of the not!Shiftling. A Samurai Noble, an Onmyoji, a Ninja Master to add. Four types of Ashigaru. Multiple types of Samurai. Both more mainline and elite ones that are mostly hybrid melee/ranged, as well ones armed with portable cannons and missile launchers...and massive iron gauntlets for sucker-punching heads off. Cavalry units ranging from mounted Samurai variants on horses to two Kirin Rider variants (one normal and one elite Royal variant). Warrior Monks and Miko Archers. Both having bound spells and magical attacks along with talismans that weaken units that belong to daemon or undead factions. Ninja variants with different weapons and variants of Elite Ninjas (the latter ones are armed with Tonfas and Claws). Ogres Milord. And with custom gear to make them maximum Nippon. Five warmachines. Two used by humans, and two handled by Ogres. The 5th one being Yokai variants. Like Fox Spirits and Suzaku Birds that have bound fire spells, Nurikabe that can taunt enemies into attacking them, Onryo that can nuke morale near instantly, Jorogumo drider-like yokai, Oni and Tengu variants (including Dai [aka: great] variants that serve as not!Greater Daemons)...and then finishing it all off with the not!Yamatano Orochi which acts like the equivalent of Queen Bess. Writing it all would take a ton of time. So this is an "extreme short" version. Edit: This roster is also fun, but not enough human lords and heroes as people mentioned in the comments.

CA needs to faithfully cash in on the Shogun 2 nostalgia. A shogun 3 would probably fall short of 2 because of the new systems, so, come on CA, give it to me. It would be weird having samurai units and not have a variety of weapon choices. But black orcs never got them so what do I know. The rocket infantry from shogun 2 was a ton of fun and could be unique to this faction.

Be nice to see them finish the world map.

We have lots of interesting, scary mythical creatures! Oni(daemon), yamatanoorochi(8 headed dragon), daidarabocchi(giant), tengu, umibozu(naval giant), and so on! Btw, it’s interesting many cultures have dragons mentioned in folklore! And don’t forget sumo wrestler ogre!

It's good, but I would like to see Nippon like Catai, a total remade faction. For example: Samurai Giant Wasp Riders, as a type of flying cavalry. I know Nippon from it's origins was a copypaste of real life Sengoku Period Japan... But I think CA and GW could bring Nippon a good remake as they did with Cathai

I don't know why, but I would expect somehow a Shogun roster mixed with fantasy and mythology xD Also I really need to update my knowledge about warhammer's Nippon... Some propositions for human part of the army: Samurais as higher tier and... why not a hybrid units? Sumo warriors in heavy armor as tarpit? Onna-Bugeisha as faster, more damage dealing, but a little less tough? There is pletora of fancy weaponry - for example - nagamaki, no dachi, ono, kanabo, tetsubo, ozutsu (there was a handheld version of this, think as very, very, very large caliber musket). Hmmm why not some sort of war fan? :D

I definitely think there should be a standard human lord and then an Oni and Tengu lord, the only real issue will be trying to justify the human lord when the Oni and Tengu lords exist. Now maybe you could differentiate it by having the human lord have a Genbu as their final mount instead of the storm dragon. Personally I'm not a massive fan of the Baku's design as it's drawn here, but that's just my opinion. I would prefer if they used a Nue or Bakeneko instead of the Baku. I also think it'd be really cool to try and lean more on the joke of cars and motorcycles by instead making them a bit different technology wise. What I mean by that is maybe try to motorize some aspects rather than trying to rely as heavily on Yokai. But still try to make things mess well design wise like bringing not only the mystical aspects of yokai, but also some almost unreal techno aspects to it. I also think it'd be cool if they had something similar to black arks, considering the fact they are a major naval power.

Its a cool concept but i hope it is a lot more grim dark looking than anime looking. Still cool though. Be cool too if Nippon worked a bit like Snikch with the ninja side of it, sending ninja heroes to do sneaky things and mess with the enemy.

Looks very cool. But i hope that nippon will not have any humans and that day have a human lyck species like the elfs or the dworf. Hope GW really lins in to the oni and yokai part of japanese mythology.

I would expect more focus on human. I would suggest looking at shogun to maybe tweaking some of those old units for proper warhammer feel. then drop in a good mix of monsters. definitely need samurai units in the mix. as well as some monks. nippon could give a good chance for a new vampire lord as well. an eastern flavored vampire count and units.

Should be more samurai units, and those who are already here, seems cheap, they should be T4-T5 infantry. And its should be hybrid focused faction like kislev, i mean, they are samurais, masters of bow and melee fight. Ofc some not hybrid units, but yeah. Theres should be a lot hybrid samurais, since this faction shouldnt have shield units or a lot of them.

Wow, that's cool, just like you said however, need more human. Also i personally think to remove storm dragon as monsters and only use them as mount for making them more unique. The yamata no orochi should also be a creature similiar to a queen bess, there should only be one yamata no orochi in my opinion.

In my opinion it needs some more pop culture elements, for example: - A Godzilla base monster (breath attack but different to others) - A Pikachu base monster (which is based on mythological beast raijuu) - Feng huang (maybe this should be in Catay) which is the king of the birds (in which is based Ho-Oh pokemon) - Cavalry of antelope as the prince in Mononoke - Some kind of Shinigami
