My grandpa went searching multiple towns just to find him for my birthday. I was amazed by how realistic it was and the Transformation really felt like a Transformation. The jet kibble is really kept to a minimum and it’s covered but the hands. I’d still say it’s better to have the hands vs a mishmash big box.

I’m 90% sure the mech alive gimmick was only in the rotf line because each line of movie figures was trying to have a unique gimmick. I’m not sure if aoe or tlk had gimmicks though. I’m pretty sure they stopped doing gimmicks after dotm

I'd love to see this design get refined. That wrap around transformation makes such a clean jet mode, with a few extra steps they could make both modes nearly perfect.

Ah, good old ROTF Voyager Starscream. May not be the best figure ever, but he was the first transformer I ever bought. I think we as a community should recognize and appreciate our not so good first figures that got us hooked in the first place.

I actually found this toy at a local thrift store a few months back. One of the thrift stores here in town had someone drop off a huge collection of Transformers (which have all since been sold, a fair amount of them to me lol) and from there I picked up movie 1 Ramjet, Energon Dreadwing, G1 Sludge, DOTM Stratosphere and other really cool figures. Tip for collectors: check your local thrift stores once in a while. Sure, some of them will be partially transformed by some kid trying to figure them out and giving up halfway, but you can find good gems if you look hard enough.

ROTF had the best movie toys imo.

This is in my opinion, while I like the Studio Series version, and the Movie masterpiece version, this and the HFTD version were my favorite movie StarScream figures ever!!! The mech alive gimmick is what made me collect transformers again, the best gimmick of the movie series. I also like the Mechtech gimmick as they give characters unique weapons, and can be given to any character. That was great!! Such a shame that unique gimmicks, which I think were kind of a signature thing for Hasbro’s toys, aren’t as common anymore. :(

According to the TFWiki, airbrushed stock photography shows that this figure's hands were originally designed to fold away more cleanly in vehicle mode. The cannons were similarly jointed as well. Both features were likely scrapped for budget reasons.

Love this guy. Was my main display for starscream for a long time. Upgraded to leader and never looked back. Probably one of the best leader class toys ever made.

I remember I got the DotM version of this mold in 3rd grade. _UNFORTUNATELY_ my naive self back then let one of my friends borrow Screamer for a weekend, on Monday, I got the figure back with SO MANY PARTS MISSING. I still have the figure to this day, but I wish I still had it at 100%.

In 2009I was on the hunt for this guy for awhile, spotted only one at my local Walmart the painting could of been better my version had the tattoo coming off but regardless I love that figure. This toy would always have a special place in my heart!

Very disappointed they didn't just retool this for Studio series. Honestly the only real problem was the hands and forearms, which were redone at the last minute anyway - you can tell by the weird plastic used for the hands that they had something else designed, as per concept art that was released, but it failed QC or safety tests or something. I like this mold so much i bought the Movie The Best version so i could have it without tattoos.

I got this one when I started collecting TFs again a few years ago. Got it for cheap from a friend. Definitely has the best jet mode and not having fake parts for any mode is highly appreciated. I'm keeping this one as ROTF version, and I'll get SS one as movie 1 version.

I still love this toy. I remember the day I got him like it was yesterday - I had the chance to see ROTF in an open-air cinema in my hometown. At the time I was still looking for him, as he was starting to disappear from shelves here in Germany. We met up in a small group to see the film and decided to do a little toy hunting before that - and I finally found him! Never saw one after that time on shelves again (the new molds from that first wave of ROTF toys moved very fast - nobody wanted the ugly looking Prime, which was the same mold from the movie line before that; Ironhide was "better" but a lot of friends of mine did not care for his new look)

Look at the rotf hunt for the decepticons voyager Optimus it’s a downscale of the leader from rotf it’s really good and if you want a shinier one get the japan exclusive one called revenge prime it has chrome bits.

i recently bought the studio series starscream without the tattoos and i really love it. the kibble is a bit annoying but since i display him more from the top or in bot mode anyway, it's not visible. those moving gears do look awesome though, i wish newer models would have that

I have two versions of this being the Kmart exclusive and the movie the best 06 and after messing with the joint tolerances using time joint thickener and disassembly to do it he feels amazing and in my view revisiting him I personally think he’s better than the studio series because this captures the shape if he had better arms he’d be superior and I hope 3p decides to mess with this mould

Some rotf toys were so good, but backwards joints and awkwardly positioned hands were so common back then. Makes the figure's longevity diminish.

This was my favorite ever Starscream until I got my hands on the SS RoTF fig.

That was one of the cleanest jet modes i ever saw that gave the leader class a run for it's money and even puts the masterpiece to shame

I have this figure honestly and I don't like it. Over the years the joints become too loose and so did the joints on the fins. It's now not that fun to play with anymore

This is one of the rare toy that legitimately made me ANGRY. The bot mode is an awkward mess. It could have been forgiven due to the PERFECT and SLEEKEST jet mode ever... Until I got lied to by the instructions that old be to use an non-existent wrist joint to fold in and tuck the hands away in the jet mode. I sold the thing with utter disgust.
