"My local Vintage booth" Aka: Where I trick ppl into overpaying for items they could find for $1 at charity garage sales if they get there before I do... He reminds me of these older ladies who would stalk the local Goodwill trying to get first dibs on anything that looked profitable. I once managed to snag two large wooden Lazy Susans as soon as the worker put them out (one for me, one for a gift) and they stared at me like how dare I and proceeded to follow me for a while as if I was gonna change my mind about buying them. On the flip side there was once man looking at the cookware in the same Goodwill and I had a really nice pot in my hand I wasn't sure about getting bc I already had a similar one so I said "Sir, would you like this? I'm not taking it after all." He was so grateful he asked me if I was sure a few times and thanked me over and over. I guess bc that's the opposite of what usually happens at thrift stores.

Recently, my family just had a yard sale. We had many old books and some old/ new toys. This one man with two young daughters bought and old TV, clothing, and an old Clifford toy. Turns out he had over 300k followers on tiktok and over 5 Million likes. His channel has videos of old artifacts that he collected. So my family thought that he was going to post a tiktok of the old toy that we had.

I usually think stuff like this is super immoral, but the thing here is: if he were to tell people holding a garage sale "hey, these items could sell for way more on ebay!" more than likely their response would be "that's great, I don't have time for that, why do you think I'm holding a garage sale?" Yes, buying shoes, etc that someone in need could use isn't the best practice and I am the biggest advocate that people have destroyed thrift stores for those who need them, however: garage sales have a limited run. Usually they're open for a few days, max. The likelihood of a person in need finding and purchasing that very thing isn't suddenly high, so the end result is still more gain for the person running the sale as they make their desired price from it, rather than tossing it away somehow as they'd be likely to do otherwise.

Ok here is the thing that I see, this man who openly admits commonly to buying on the cheap and then reselling it normally goes about his business unperturbed but then as soon as it’s something for charity people have a problem with it? I’m sorry but in my opinion the items were going to make $13 at the sale regardless of who bought them so for $15 to be donated regardless of the amount is a positive gesture which others might not have made. The fact that these are being resold is totally independent from where he bought them from in the first place. Could he have donated more? Sure he could but why in this circumstance does him completing a totally normal task suddenly have a moral implication? He does this openly wherever he goes and no one has an issue so for him to complete this here at a place where the items are going for a set amount. In my mind he still donated to charity for the price the sellers wanted him to (plus a curtesy extra) and in a win win scenario for himself as he managed to keep doing his business as usual.
