No matter how many times I play/watch this game each time still grips my heart at the end. I'm so excited for the next game they are working on called Neva (instantly added it to my wishlist on Steam when I saw the trailer open with "From the creators of GRIS" XD). I already know it's going to have me crying and I would have it no other way.

Literally the best, most thoughtful and underrated playthrough of this absolutely heartwarming and heartwrenching game I've ever seen. Gris playthroughs are rare enough but it was yours that made me think about... well, lot of things, honestly. And the way you were so dedicated to finding every single tiny detail - something I've never seen anyone else do. Thank you so much for this, you're an amazing youtuber and a beautiful, understanding person!

Great reaction!! Probably my favorite reaction to this game. Your discussions at the end were very nice as well. This was one of the first games I played (wasnt much of a gamer until 2018) and it remains one of my favorite games to this day. I have similar feelings with you about music/soundtracks, when I as Gris achieved the ability to sing again Id always be pressing the button for it just to see every single thing bloom during that stage. Absolutely beautiful game. I also agree with what you said about ambiguity and interpreting the game yourself. First time I played my interpretation was similar to ur 2nd one, of the mother dealing with the death of Gris and unable to let her go. They did such an amazing job visually depicting grief as a being in itself that can overpower you, drowns you, swallows you whole, surprising you when you least expect it. Sobbed my way through the ending for a full ten minutes and listened to the whole soundtrack on yt afterwards at a loss. Games like this that deal with grief and loss in such a meaningful way hold such a special place in my heart. Truly an amazing experience. I also suggest the two Ori games like one of the other commenters if you ever plan on doing similar games. That series is on par with Gris for me in terms of emotional impact, maybe even more. Soundtrack is incredible too. Also wow! I just saw that you went back to get all the trophies. Ur maybe the first reactor Ive seen do that right after a first playthrough. Hats off to you!

Thank you so much!! I appreciate the kind words and the time you took to write this comment 💖 I loved the soundtrack so much for this game, I bought both versions on vinyl and it's incredible 🥺 I think this game did an amazing job of making grief a beautifully deep and profound experience... just the journey of going through the emotions and finding ones way out of the darkness. This game definitely has a special place in my heart too! I will for sure check out Ori! I've already listened to the soundtrack for the game but haven't played it yet... but I agree the music is also incredible! I tend to go trophy hunting after finishing games 😅I like to platinum games when I can😁

The most beautiful visual looking game ever and one of the most emotional. Also absolutely one of the best ending I have ever seen. Even with no dialogue, we completely understand what the ending represents. I've never seen anyone get to the ending and not feel emotionally drained😊. Lastly, the music is 10 out of 10. It completes the game.

@@sagexsiren I love the songs Gris part 1 and 2 & the song Unagi playing during the Eel Chase. This game felt like more of an experience than a game. We all go through grief and they represented it here beautifully. I think you should play What Remains of Edith Finch and Sayonara Wild Hearts next

Really impressed by this playthrough for so many reasons. For your first set of reactions, your editing, playstyle and analysis are all on point. How you timely put the Platinum and secret ending into the end of the video instead of just looking up the secret ending vid like most people. It shows your devotion to the game and the story. Also loved all of your "alternate" ending discussion. Obviously the secret ending solidifies the mother version of the ending, but it's nice to think of the game in other ways, and how it could impact others. I especially like the accepting death version, where she's climbing up the stairs "into the light" Music also impacts me very strongly, and I can't recall an ending to anything that has so perfectly combines visuals and a musical score to create such an emotional response from me. POWERFUL is the adjective I hear over and over in describing this game. And I think it's an aptly used one. There is genuine POWER behind the story that is being told here. Without words. In less than the time spent in some movies.

Really appreciate the comments and thoughts! 🙏🏼 yesss I for sure did not want to be influenced by the trophies or secret ending in coming up with my own theories. This game truly deserves to be experienced and contemplated. I had a similar reaction while playing Kena. The soundtrack for that game is also incredibly beautiful, and the story for the characters was heartfelt while also diving into more spiritual and deeply moving themes. Since you enjoy the music as deeply as I do, I recommend composers such as Ólafur Arnalds, Slow Meadow, Tony Anderson, Sophie Hutchings, and Sebastian Plano 🙏🏼 there are many more but that's what I can remember off the top of my head 😁

@@sagexsiren Thank you for the recommendations! They all sound great. I'm only familiar with Olafur, as I was introduced to him via a British crime drama, Broadchurch. He did all of the music for that show and it was incredible. I'll check out the rest. Sebastian already sounds very similar to Gris. I'll also check out Kena, been meaning to buy it since I got my PS5.

I've been a long-time fan of Ólafur for years! His latest album, some kind of peace, has to be one of my favs. The short film When We Are Born that accompanies the album is also beautiful creation! Hope you enjoy the rest of the artists! Kena is one of my favorite games 🥺 and now Gris is up there with it.

While awaiting your SM2 videos, I watched this playlist. It’s one of my all time favourite “games”. It doesn’t get enough credit. Folks that don’t consider games to be a form of Art are mistaken. Loved watching your reaction. Highly suggest What Remains of Edith Finch (going in blind is the best way).

Hey Sage. I just finished watching your playthrough and was a bit surprised given your channel is mostly filled with RPG 😀 and how you almost unlocked 100% tropies in this first play. By the way, if you have not played OPUS: Echo of Starsong, I highly recommend it. It's a visual novel and since music has visceral effect on you I would loooove to watch you get emotional like you did playing Gris. 😉

I actually just finished this game myself back on New Years Day this year, and I didn't know much about it beforehand. I never thought that I'd start the year off with such an amazing game that moved me with so much emotion. Ever since I finished the game, not only did I recommend it to everyone I thought would like it, but I also went to see other players react to the game and see their interpretation as they went through it - my theory when I first played was that I thought it was about a young girl who lost her world, and the statue was the embodiment of that world. The girl went on a journey to do everything she could to rebuild it...I guess in a sense, overcoming grief can also be described like that, but you did what I couldn't in your playthrough, which was figure it out as it happened:) This is one of the best playthroughs of the game I've seen, with the emotional journey you went through, and the genuine reactions to everything was great to see, especially since I experienced it too in more or less the same way when I played the game! You've definitely earned a sub from me ^^

This is a beautiful game. The music and art is outstanding. I allways leaned towards the theory that the girl died and the mother is grieving her. You allways see statues of the mother grieving. But each to their own theory. That's the point of art being open-ended. Many people can relate to it in their own way.

Definitely one of my absolute favs! I also thought of the mother grieving the daughters death as one of my theories because of all the statues as you've stated. This game could go in so many directions depending on your personal experience, which is powerful 🙏🏼

Just discovered this channel and newly subscribed! I have 2 game recommendations for you, based off this playthrough. They're both artistic puzzle platformers. Both are more gameplay-heavy than "Gris", but are no less beautiful in their own ways. "The Missing: J.J. Macfield and the Island of Memories" is a rollercoaster ride. Insane, creepy, hilarious, devastating, and ultimately uplifting. Lots of fun secrets to collect. You should go into the game knowing as little as humanly possible. Let me just put it this way: When "Gris" won Games For Impact at the Game Awards, I was happy, but also felt J.J. Macfield got robbed by not even being nominated. "Forgotten Anne" is like playing an old-school anime as a game. The world and the art style are very creative. Inanimate objects have souls, and you are a human tasked with monitoring these sentient objects and regulating their activities. There are morality options in this game, where you can be ruthless or kind, and the platforming is very Metroidvania-inspired; with new abilities that let you access new areas as the story progresses.
