I also felt that none of the Mishimas aside from maybe Heihachi/Kazuya felt samey and it makes sense that Kaz and Hei would feel similar due to their history. So idk where the “Mishima clone” thing came from…maybe because they have the same last name? Because while they all use Karate its pretty different forms of Karate for each. I think Kaz uses a Shotokan influenced style while Jin’s is closer to Kyukashin. Jinpachi is weird as hell. And idk what Heihachi’s style is based from. Its like Baek and Hworang how they both use Taekwondo but it’s not exactly the same.

Tekken stepped out of Virtua Fighter's shadow and not only surpassed it, but became the last 3D Fighting game standing. It is also, currently, the third best-selling fighting game franchise of all-time, behind Super Smash Bros. and Mortal Kombat. As of this writing, it has even outsold the legendary Street Fighter series which is insane and unprecedented. Not bad for a series that was dismissed as a "Virtua Fighter-clone" when it started.

They had make the 3D stages into 2D background boxed in “rooms” and significantly downscale the character models as well to get it working on console, compared to the console versions of the first two game which more or less looked the same as the arcade versions.

I was 16 or 17 when it came out. Remember there was a pool hall I would hang at that had a cabinet of 2. Had to go to the local Aladdin's Castle for 3. Was hooked afterwards.

Nothing but memories, so many good memories whenever Tekken 3 is brought up in discussion. I was introduced to video games earlier on with the NES when my father got it for his birthday from his brother but we didn't have it long. We got the PlayStation with a few games one Christmas which was unexpected. Games were Crash Bandicoot, The Game of Life and Tekken 3. The love for video games was established and the rest was history. Tekken 3 will always have a small place close to my heart because it was something that my father and I could play and bond over when I was younger. We even has a blast trying to take it to my great grandmothers house and figuring out the hook up to her old box tv later that Christmas. There, my sister, father, cousin and myself would take turns fighting each other while learning all the moves to become even better or help one another fight through to unlock each character ending. Oh boy the good ol' times.

Tekken 3 was my first tekken game as a kid when I first thought Paul phoenix was Ken and if I have to say tekken 3 is the bringer of gaming that brought the evolving story up to make the protagonist of tekken, Jin kazama the hero of tekken.

While I've always liked fighting games since my early gamer days, with titles such as International Karate, IK+ and Yie Ar Kung-Fu being the most memorable, Street Fighter 2 was the first to truly captivate me. Tekken 3 managed to take the position of favourite fighting game very quickly. VF 1-3 were certainly impressive for the time and I spent quite a bit of money on the arcade machines, Tekken 2 was kinda meh in comparison to those three. At that point Mortal Kombat only really had the gore factor left as an attraction. But Tekken 3 came in with (for the time) amazing 3D graphics, a wealth of cutscenes, great animations and a very varied roster of characters. Not having a console meant that it took me several years before I got to play that version.

I played this game on the arcade in the gas station. Cost 25 cents if I remember in 1998. Bring back the memories.

My favorite Tekken game to this day. I have so many fond memories playing this with friends, and we were extremely amazed by the possibilities this game had after Tekken 2. We celebrated every move that avoided the enemies attack just to launch a counter-attack, we clowned around with Yoshi, Bosko, Xiao and Gun countless times. I remember i couldnt wait to get to my friend and play with him this masterpiece every day.

Never played Tekken 3. When PS2 launched with Tekken Tag Tournament as a launch title my friend picked it up and Tekken Tag basically became our lives for awhile and neither of us had ever played any Tekken to that point yet. Watching Max's Tekken series it's clear to me how big of a stepping stone Tekken 3 was for the series to get from Tekken 2 to one of my favorites ever, Tag Tournament. Great history lessons here Max, thank you.

Tekken 3 was the very very first "real" game I ever played apart from flash games. I got it gifted to me (with a ps1) when I was 6~7 years old by my aunt's boyfriend. I am 20 years old now. Just goes to show that this game knows no generational boundaries :)

I watched my uncles play Tekken 1 and Tekken 2 for months and months and and remember being on a school trip with a buddy, we went into a game store and Tekken 3 had just come out and I remember the two of us pooled our school trip money together to buy it and I still have so many great memories of playing Tekken 3 to this day

Sometimes PS1 Tekken is easier to look at than modern Tekken. I feel "comfort" when I look at Tekken 3. Newer games are visually overwhelming. Older Tekken games made me feel like I was exploring the coolest parts of the REAL world. All those ancient temples and monuments, and the badlands, and the iconic music, all worked together in a way that the modern package doesn't.

That's what I think is charming about 'bad graphics'. What isn't visibly detailed is usually fleshed out within your imagination. This is even more so for a child.

Tag 1 definitely counts as OG Tekken. You can view it as either the epilogue, or more appropriately, Super Tekken 3 Ultra Turbo: Tag Edition.
