i can't believe Insym plays RPG-maker horrors. I am in heaven

If you enjoyed this and wanna play more like it, I highly recommend Ib and The Witch's House! They're both games that are inspired by Ao Oni, and build upon its ideas with polish and awesome stories. Ib is my personal favourite.

One thing I love about Ao Oni and RPGMaker horror games in general is how clever their puzzles are. They genuinely get you thinking, and it usually isn't just boring fetch quests hehe

Ah yes, "Blue Demon". This was such a strange game, but even now it still has some spooky stuff going on.

Horror games made with RPG-maker and WOLF rpg editors are a holy grail of a niche horror stuff. Love them. Really interested if you're going to give more of them a try. WIthch's House, Ib, OFF, OMORI.

You should DEFINITELY check out more RPG Maker games, some of them are incredibly good! Just to name a couple there's Mad Father, Misao, Paranoiac, The Witch's House, plus a lot of other great ones!

I didn't know that you would be able to hear freaking BREATHING in the basement... around 40:54 it disappears later after being chased by both onis...but it literally comes back a little while after. Jeez this game, I wouldn't be able to play this alone AHAHHAHA

1:00:41 dude. INSYM. You almost got softlocked there but you looped him so hard wtf. The way to get softlocked there would've been you not being able to escape him since looping is *almost* impossible. And the other way you could've escaped is actually you opening the room (with the rope ladder) with the blue piece to keep it from being locked. That was CRAAAAZY! :))) Awesome job man!!

The title is so relatable, Ao Oni's face just gave me nightmares before

I remember playing this text based puzzle game on the ZX spectrum iirc, a bit similar to the one in the vid but from before they added movement to these types of story games (or even graphics, other than maybe a still picture in some of the later ones), and on each scene you had to type a command for your character instead of pressing asdw or arrow keys etc. So for example you'd type "open the door" or "climb through the window" and if it was correct it'd let you do it, but if not it'd say something like "I tried to climb through the window but it was locked shut" etc. I got stuck on this one part where the only thing was this kettle on a stove .. and I'd tried everything, "move kettle" "pick up kettle" etc. but it always said "the kettle is too heavy you can't move it" or something like this... after literally hours I got so frustrated I started typing things like "punch kettle" Kick kettle" ... AND finally "kick kettle" worked, and it opened up a hidden passage under the kettle. The game devs knew it would frustrate you so much you'd end up writing something like punch and kick kettle and eventually get it, they intentionally made you rage in order to progress .. so savage lol.

I'm actually rather surprised at that first death. I seem to remember the game as always having big flashy jumpscares with loud noises, but that was hardly a jumpscare. You can see the animation of the closet doors opening, there's no scream or anything, and then it just ends. Maybe my imagination got a bit carried away with how I remember things as a kid lol.

We're getting closer and closer to a potential Ib/The Witch's House/Mad Father playthrough and I'm all here for it!

'ANCIENT game' made in 2004. Yes its SO OLD. (cries in 1990s). I admit it is much older than I thought though. I thought this was a modern but intentionally retro game (like inscryption or something), but it is actually retro.

Really took me back to the old days when I just discovered Pewdiepie playing RPG games. There were a lot of other titles too like Mad Father I think.

mannnn i just want a horror game where the monster is chasing you not realizing you’re afraid of it, and then theres a scripted moment where you get caught and the monster doesn’t kill you but offers friendship and protection from evil or something. it’d be wholesome idk also a “horror” game involving cats maybe, i say “horror” because it would again have a cute/wholesome twist to it

Ao Oni was one of the first horror lets plays I've ever watched and i still have PTSD to this day. But I see nostalgia in the thumbnail, i click. The Alluring Darkness / The Apartment / Calm Falls next? PauseChamp (I'll just start to name a few other great ones) Dreamcatcher, Misao, lb, Witch's House, Calm Falls 2... I think other comments pointed out some great ones too, but the ones I listed are a bit more on the underappreciated side, or rather just the lesser known ones that didn't get a let's play of huge ytbers back then.

don't think I played this one, but made me think of another game I played once (went down the rabbit hole to find it again xP) which ended up being 'corpse party' and I recall it being pretty good too, would be nice to see someone play through that one :) there's also apparantly a 2021 remake of the first version. from what I read: exact same story but updated graphics and voice content 0.o (like I said, massive rabbit hole to figure out the games and their order as well, but guess there's some new stuff I've yet to play. I remember playing the original corpse party like 10 years ago, so ...yeah I'm diving down this rabbit hole and play them all xP)

Hey insym if you enjoyed this game, then your gonna love (Mario) The Music Box. It's also an rpg makes type game with very rich story and slight gore. It's a great game and I recommend it. (The game has 15+ endings)
