Become a minimalist, I use to buy a lot of things now I just buy things I really want. Money management, being frugal and budgeting all keep me in balance.

A good realtor can be the ticket to having more and manage it well. Realtors hate letting you buy a home $200k less than what you qualify for. If they refuse to let you see homes in your budget, drop them like a hot potato.

Budgeting is a challenge that brings me joy. Watching our mortgage disappear this quickly is unbelievable. I wish I had done this sooner.

I am grateful to make a very decent wage as a single mom, like Rachel said, It's all about your mindset when it comes to money but also fully trusting God with what he provides.

Funny thing is the people who think $250k would solve their problems are the likely the exact ones who would fall into lifestyle creep and spend spend spend!

No man! I'd pay off our mortgage, make a few updates to our home and save most of the rest. I have faith in myself. Someone needs to pay me.

I live within the Washington DC area and make among the lowest wages, under 40K. Just finished paying off the mortga5and have zero debt because I pay off all credit cards each month. 250K would definitely be a game changer for me. Solve my problems by being able to fund my retirement!

All this was common sense to me. No one over taught me this. Blows my mind an adult can't easily think this through on their own. It just makes sense.

I learned my lesson about buying things online. It looks one way in the picture then when you receive it surprise assembly required returning to Amazon. I will buy a phone stand in the store so I can see it put my phone in it. It was only $10 but still now it’s a pain in the neck to return it live and learn the hard way.

There's endless amounts of videos on this subject and those related, but creating a budget (or just listing all of your expenses per month) really draws an eye to where your money is going. When it's presented to you so blatantly, your mindset begins to change and you start rethinking things like coffee, eating out and Netflix like subscriptions. It's a crucial step for continuing down the debt free path. Side note: Paying with cash for things makes giving up your money a lot more difficult.

I agree with a lot of this. One statement I would 'challenge' is a 'home is an appreciating asset'. Not necessarily. It depends on what you pay for it, and/or when you sell it. This was not the case for me 25 years ago. I ended up coming out of pocket to cover the difference between what I agreed to sell my place for and what was the balance of my mortgage. I was able to do it, but It was a good lesson for me.

How can I buy a car saving 2 hundred dollars a month when cars are so expensive ? A clunker car will break down and that costs a ton of money, basically a money pit. And a new vehicle is 20,000 bucks or more. 😢

It's fine, people who are able to control credit card spending are fine. Dave Ramsey has preached 'no cc' for so many years that he (and his team) refuse to undo what they have always taught. The same with the $1000 emergency fund, they preached that 30 years ago and they won't undo it either... Dave Ramsey is great for people deeply in debt but not all his rules need to be followed once a person becomes responsible. I get so many rewards by using a credit card and wouldn't lose that because Dave is stuck in the 90's.

What about when you barely make 2,000 each month? It will take me probably 10 years or more to save to buy a car with cash and then how am i to have money for my emergency and other funds and then life necessities? This sounds like a great plan but not always practical when you don't make enough money and still live with your parents cause you can't afford to move out....

In today's society it is so easy to borrow money. This is the real reason for inflation. When money is so easy to get by borrowing it is easy to buy anything. We borrow money for everyday purchases like a soda can from a vending machine. Just swipe you card. We need to go back to the basics of buying only the things we can afford to pay cash that we have on hand for. If you have a home and have a mortgage on it, YOU DO NOT OWN YOUR HOME!! If you have a car and have a car loan YOU DO NOT OWN YOUR CAR!! Why do you think college tuitiion is so high, because it is so easy to get a student loan!! Car prices so high? How easy is it to get a car loan? Give it a try. If you had to get a loan to get something, YOU DO NOT OWN IT!!!
