This is a review of the hand made Eastman SB59 gold top electric guitar. This is the best hand made Gibson Les Paul Alternative I have played. The Eastman SB59 is as good as my made-in-Japan Tokai LS-110! Check it out below. Considering Its Handmade It’s pretty inexpensive! If you haven't seen or played an Eastman SB59, give it a shot!

Am proud owner of Eastman SB59v with Lollar Imperials, good friend tried it and said it was better than his Gibson R9. Eastman are knocking it out of the park. Ebony fretboards as well are the icing on the cake.

I've got an Eastman SB56 Goldtop with Lollar P-90s. It's an absolutely amazing guitar, especially given the cost! Highly recommended.

Picked up one of the SB59/V and good lord all the hype wasn't wrong. The varnish hand rubbed finish was spectacular and it felt like that well worn baseball mitt that you loved in the hand. amazing craftsmanship and play ability outta the box. I now grab for it before my LP's each and every time. they knocked it outta the park . Oh and the Lollar's are just the cherry on top. Amazing pups per usual from Jason.

Nice! Probably 1 of the BETTER LP style guitars that DON'T have a big G or E stamped on them! Eastman are a PROPER musical instrument maker in China, that employs PROPER, qualified instrument makers/luthiers, not process workers like in other co's! They had been in the ORCHESTRAL instrument market for many years making violin family instruments, acc guitars & I think pianos! In the last decade or so they've branched out into electric guitars, mainly based on classic designs, but with their OWN twist! The SB line as far as I knew, came out with LOLAR Imperial pick ups as stock. Maybe this was an EARLIER example or the pick ups have been retrofitted with Duncans! Rockin' sounds Shane! \m/

SB59 = Duncan’s as standard (always had them) in the UK £1600 ish ……..SB59/V ….. Lollars (V line always had Lollars) in the UK £2100 ish (Custom Aged/Wound Imperial Humbuckers) …. They did a few limited editions with Pearly Gates. They were lovely ! 👍🏻👍🏻

I have an Eastman SB59/V It's a nos 2018 I bought new from Rudy's in Scarsdale, NY for $1500 delivered, with no tax. In 2018 the pu's were Seymour's Antiquities, which I find to be the best pick ups I own other than my Fralin steel pole 43s which are p-90s that fit right in a Tele. Incredible guitars from Eastman. Gibson Custom Shop Quality for 1/3 the price.

Thanks for loving my comment. I wanted to add that SB/Vs are French polished, a hand rubbed varnish. The finish adds a vintage quality to the sound of the guitars. I've owned about 100 guitars in my 43 years of playing in my 60 years of life, and I'm very sorry I let go of several of them, but will keep the Eastman the rest of my days. It is beautiful, plays wonderfully, and sounds as good as any guitar I've heard! ! !

I own that same guitar with SD Antiquities (possibly my new most favorite pickup). Unpotted, too… yummy! And the hand-applied varnish finish is soooo cool. I’m not a huge fan of relics, but their varnish technique is a great “compromise”… like wearing a broken in pair of shoes. In fact, I loved it so much that I soon after bought a gorgeous sunburst version (regular nitro) with the demo’s SD ‘59s. The guitar was actually a NAMM showpiece in the Eastman booth. Don’t know which I prefer really… the pickups alone make for such a wonderfully unique difference. And their appearance is also entirely different. IMO and IME… These are both the best LP style guitars I’ve ever played, too. (BTW, our guitar numbers and age stats are very similar, but I have about ten years on ya! And I totally agree with everything you said here.) Oh yeah. Not long after, I sold my $3000 Gibson LP. Sorry.. no contest, Gibson. Cheers!

When I looked up this Eastman Gold top, I was shocked at how much this cost! Great sounding and looking guitar!! According to Jerry’s notes on this guitar, the gold will no longer be available in both left and right handed 🙁🙁. Now I want it!!!😩😩😩 Thanks Shane!!🎸🎸🎸😎😎

Based on this review I bought the SB59 bourbon busrt. Holy cow this is one fine instrument. I have had several gibson LPs including 2 $5000+ custom shops. I never bonded with them and sold them. This Eastman at only $1800 is better to me, than any of my Gibsons were. Thanks for the great review!!

I love my Eastman SB59. I have a lot of great guitars and this one is top 3. The only change I have made is I added locking tuners. Just a personal preference for me. I would highly encourage anyone in the market for an SC guitar to check out Eastman in a local store. Mine is a 2018 that I acquired used.

The build quality is top notch and the playability is butter smooth. The SB59/V with the Lollar pickups is a great upgrade for someone looking for a vintage sound. The Duncan 59 is a middle of the road pickup. Most people will think it's okay and will at least think about upgrading.

The rhythm and lead tones were the best I've ever heard; no lie! Expected the usual latest iteration of a Paul type thing but big surprise! As always, brutal blues without a trace of SRV; not that that's a bad or a good thing; just that SRV and BB have already done that... 🤘

These Eastman guitars are handmade and while they are not “cheap” they are every bit as good as handmade guitars way above where this is priced. one piece mahogany bodies and necks, no weight relief and most around 8lb,... a certain company should hang their heads in shame when you need to go custom shop for similarly lightweight quality mahogany

I have this exact guitar, quality and craftsmanship is excellent. Eastman is the way to go, I just returned a 2021 lefty Gibson SG with uneven frets that were supposedly Pleked. Sorry, Gibson is not back! I also have a lefty Eastman T59V, best 335 style guitar I've played in 45 years!

Got that exact guitar, i'm Sinestral too! It is great for Zeppelin, but my Agile 3100 is better for Koss tones, not sure what the pups are, but it is veryKoss sounding. The 59 is awesome, currently on my workbench to get 3 frets cleaned up a little, going to put 9's on . The Goldtop really does look sensational, definitely worth the money i paid. Got a 486 as well, with SD's, Eastman are every bit as good, if not better than Gibson in my opinion. Although i may change the SD's for Arcane Triple Clones.

These Eastman solid bodies LP style guitars are very well built, nice thick cap, light weight mahogany and if you pull the neck pup, you will also notice that the neck has a long tenon!

Considering even the top-of-the line Antique Varnish SB-59/v models are still A$1100 less than a Gibson Les Paul Standard, this is a no-brainer. I bought my SB-59/v gold burst (which looks like an iced tea finished on a Gibson) for A$2400 before the prices shot up (retail then was A$3100 compared to the current A$3999) and I can say it's the best bang-for-buck guitar I've bought. Incredibly light for a LP-style guitar, and a total pleasure to play in every aspect.

The Duncan '59 is an odd choice. The SB59/V has the Lollar pickups. If you want the full vintage 1959 experience go with that. The SB59 should come with their own decent quality Eastbucker pickups and $125 lower price tag. That's $125 bucks to spend on the pickups you really want. Maybe you want T Tops for a Thin Lizzy thing. Maybe a Super Distortion for a Kiss/ Def Leppard thing. Maybe the Slash AP2 for a Slash inspired but not a clone thing..Heck, maybe EMGs for ultimate chug. You can pull people looking to upgrade and people who already have a Gibson R8. You're not going to shove EMGs in a Custom Shop.

Eastmans are amazing guitars. I have the E20OM-TC, it was not budget, it cost like 1800.00, but I was getting like 3k worth of instrument, it's just phenomenal. A ton of by-hand work on the guitar, not a flaw on it, and it sounds so great.

Pause @3:34 and look how crooked those side dots are at the 12th fret. LOL! This is not at all uncommon on Eastman guitars. What are they thinking?

Awesome demo and video Shane, you got beautiful sounds of that Eastman guitar, great playing and music. I tried that model few months ago but I didn’t buy it. When I went to get it, it was sold. They come with a wonderful hardcase. I have the T386 that is based on the ES335 and a Dreadnought, both amazing guitars. They are available in Australia, Music Junction is a dealer in Melbourne amongst others, however when they arrive, they are sold out in a week or so 🤷🏻‍♂️

The only thing I don’t like about Eastmans is the inconsistency in their neck profiles amongst guitars of the same model (since they’re all hand crafted). I had an sb55dc/v and the neck was so uncomfortable I sent it back the day after I got it.

I've had eastman and blueridge guitars and mandolins in the past .After about 5 years all necks on these instruments had serious issues.

What I think is that your demo and explanations are very thorough and great. However it's basically a high quality or high end Chinese copy or replica of a LP Standard. Besides the SD pickups it's pretty much the same shape and design formula.. Which basically means that it's it's a great quality guitar but not that cheap or inexpensive, given that it's made in China.. The quality is undeniable but it's the price range of a higher end LP Studio that don't go for cheap in the 1,5k to 2k US$ range.. I wouldn't call this guitar inexpensive but less expensive and I doubt it will keep it's value in the resale market. So at that price range personally, I'd buy a good LP Studio or an LP Tribute or something else like a Godin Summit. Or perhaps if I wanted something inexpensive but good, a high end Epihone, LTD or an Agile (Rondo)..

Gibson America guitars are handmade, which is why they are expensive. Epiphones are not, which is why they are cheaper. Eastman are handmade, which is why they aren't cheap...only cheaper than Gibson. There are good choices in every price range.

These are on par with Gibson custom shop though. A Studio wouldn't touch this... trust me. Go try one.

@@robj144 I've tried a few Studios and it's on a case per case to my experience.. Some resonate as much as Lp 2x or 3x as much and some are soso.. It's basically a LP without the cosmetics and hoopla's.. Originally design for studios..

@@enonknives5449 I know they're hand made. However, with cheaper labour then the lowest paid employee of a Gibson factory.. Although they have a partially automated process when it comes to the carving and routing of the body, there are still operations that require manual labour on a Gibson LP.. So no wonder they beat them at the price game.. They also make mandolins.. They make good products and never write anything else..

Sounds good, but...$2k+ is 'affordable'? I think not. Just find a real deal Gibson for around $1k.

So if you got one 5-6yr back.. they're worth more now 2nd hand.. Their accoustics are brilliant too.. this happened with Takamines yrs ago.. oh they're Japanese etc those handmade ones go for stupid money now.

I have had my eye on this model for about a year or so now... Something always seems to get in the road of its purchase. This week it was a Marshall sv20 amp (thanks Shane 😪). Just a word about it being handmade. I think some people think that means it's made by a luthier using old school tools and hands from start to finish. It's no more handmade than most other guitars. They claim their guitars/instruments are handmade, but what portion on which guitars? Does polishing and glossing by hand make it handmade when it's cnc machined like just about all other guitars? I own an Eastwood acoustic as my 'second' acoustic and it's lovely all solid timbers, but I doubt that is any more handmade than other acoustics, other than super high end boutique and handmade varieties. Seems the marketing gurus have been hard at work here. Cheers.

Ahhhh, there are a few vids of Eastman , they are indeed handmade, no CNC. I would recommend you search YT for the vid tours of the Eastman factory, it will open your eyes!

@@markhill9275 Hey, sorry, we'll have to disagree here. Nowhere does it state on the Eastman website that this is totally handmade, nor do they say anywhere they do not use cnc machines. How would they make commercial qualities in an extensive range of different guitars both electric and acoustic if luthiers were making every guitar completely by hand?

@@nostro1001 As i said, check out the vids of tours of the factory, they have an extensive staff, who actually cut out the bodies, carve the tops etc, it is all there to see, i'm dealing in fact not fiction, go see the proof.Of course i'm talking about the bodies, they do not manufacture the hardware or electronics. So you can disagree all you want, it's there to see.

Around the same price as a Gibson les paul standard and I'd say sounds just as good if not better and with all gotoh hardware as Standard it's better value! But will it hold value if you ever sell it? 🤔 is it made in China Shane?

Handmade in china, no machines at all. Eastman does violin, mandolin and acoustics. If you got one don´t sell it is a light one piece mahogany body, long tennon, not tunning issues ... no too much to improve in it.

Eastmans are premium guitars. Don't care if they are made in China they are handmade premium instruments of professional grade.

Eastmans are good guitars, but the made in China solid bodies got to the price point of a US made Gibson. Pickups are definitely better on real Gibsons. Had a T486, it was a great for ~1000 USD back then, but with their current pricing they lost their appeal.

I have the T486, lefty....best guitar of many I've owned...paid $1100 total 19 months ago. Got the SB59GT with SD 59's....$1475 total last year.... 99% as good as my Gibson Traditional with SD JB's. A finish issue that bugged me that I've never seen on the many Gibson/Heritage I've owned. Otherwise...super product!!

@@lazvt8469 My T486 had cracks in the finish in the neck heal. Mine was a 2012 model, they had kent armstrong design pickups. Pickups had to go, guitar was great but not over 2k great.

@@gvp I agree...I wouldn't pay 2k....I'd find a used ES335 or Heritage H535 (which I got a 2016 mint in 2018 for $1650...avatar is it). Having said that, my T486 is better sounding, etc than my old H535.

If you want a true disappointment in your life then go play a high dollar Fender or Gibson. If you want a true mistake in your life then just buy one!!! Overpriced HYPE !!!

This guitar is Not Inexpensive!! $2,779.00 dollars in Canada. I could buy a Gibson for that price. It Does sound Fantastic.

If you search around, I got an SB59 goldburst for 2200 Canadian. Still pricey yes buy it sure beat all the LPs thats I tried at long and mcquade. The quality is top notch and the neck on mine is beautifuly done :).

They're handmade and still considerably cheaper than a Gibson Les Paul Standard. At least they are here in Australia. LP Standards here retail for A$5200. The Eastman SB59s start at A$3199 retail for the nitro finish ones and retail up to A$3999 for the Antique Varnish varieties. Both hand-made, with Ebony fretboards and top notch pickups (Seymour Duncans on the nitro and Lollar Imperial Customs on the AV). Why would you buy a mass-produced Gibson except for the name on the headstock?
