I think it ultimately comes down to whatever the bride and groom want and are comfortable with. Your wedding sounds like it was enjoyable ☺️ Different perhaps than some of the "fancier" weddings, but enjoyable ☺️ My husband and I literally went to the courthouse in jeans and flip flops, signed papers, and was done with it 🤣 Took a whole 20 minutes and $90 🤣 I suppose considering the view you take, it wasn't even a "wedding", but it was what we wanted. So in short, no you don't need dancing and music and alcohol to have a good time ☺️

I don't envision myself getting married, but if I do I'd be happy with a very short simple ceremony, dinner, and then going home. I don't like parties, or being the center of attention. I do want to find a nice venue and decorate though.

Personally I think weddings should be done in a way that makes the bride and groom happy rather than it be a competition. So if you want music, dancing, expensive(depending on the opinion you follow of course) than that should be up to the bride and groom. But yeah things like alcohol due to religious reasons, no. But again we can’t tell people what to do. So it’s completely up to those throwing the wedding. Also love how you said and I completely agree %100 that close people should be there for support not just fun.

My wedding was the most stressful time of my life. Even though it was a very small event I spent 95% of the day decorating venues, getting the food and entertainment ready for everybody attending, driving people places, just being busy with it all. I got one dance with my husband at the reception and played one board game with family and friends because it was just so hectic. Of course I had to clean the venues too so... As awful as it sounds, if the worst happened and I was asked to get married again I wouldn't! Anyway, thank you so much for your videos, I really admire you two and love getting to hear about your religious backgrounds and lives!

In my opinion, weddings should be about what the bride and groom want not about pleasing anyone else. For one of my sisters it was about having a dry wedding (no beer or wine), for another one of my sisters she just wants her ceremony to be attended by immediate family and friends with no bridal party or groomsmen with a potluck and reception at another date. Personally, as a catholic girl I want to have a full mass (catholic service) following my church's tradition, but that is up to me and my future spouse. It's their special day, and it should be about their relationship with each other and the family that supports them.

I don't believe a wedding needs to have most of those but I would be disappointed if there wasn't music there. I personally am not a dancer and would be just fine without dancing but I would enjoy the music. Most others would say music and dancing go hand in hand so even if I didn't personally dance at my own wedding, I would still have dancing with music.

My cousin had a huge wedding and I was so bored because the only people I knew there was my grandma and my male cousin but they weren't even at my table. Then my best friend got married with just a few friends at the court house and it's still a great memory of mine because we grew up together. So as long as you have people you know any wedding can be fun

I don't think a wedding "needs" to have anything in particular, but i do think there might be a cultural difference on the purpose of a wedding reception (not the ceremony itself -- that will vary within different religions). In many cultures it is about introducing the bride and groom to their new respective families and introduce them as a new family unit to the community -- i.e. it is a community/social event. And part of it is being a good host to your guests and providing them with what they need to have a good time. Obviously if a couple is against alcohol (or vegetarian, or any other religious restrictions) they shouldn't serve that to guests just to have a good time. But I do think it is nice for a couple (and their families) to do the obligations of good hosting and enjoyment within their culture/morality within their means and personalities. For some people this will be good food, good music, good decorations, whatever they feel makes sense -- it doesn't need to be expensive, it just needs to show generosity and welcome, I think. If you can accomplish that without dancing or alcohol, that is your choice! There are many ways of having fun.

My husband and I kept it as simple as possible. My mom, his mom. My best couple friend and their little girl, and his best couple friend, and the minister that married us. We had in our living room, we had two small cakes from a local bakery. Then we were off for a weekend. That made us happy, and unnecessary stress on anybody.

Me an my husband had a small simple wedding at the base of a private waterfall. With just close family and friends, an it was instead of presents it was each person to bring food and alcohol if they wanted. Even though there was alcohol nobody got drunk. After the ceremony there was a dance an idle conversation. I sadly had to not invite my father (sexist drunkerd) an my grandma because in her words "I'm not going to a heathen/hobo riddled cheap potluck wedding, you be going to hell." just because I wasn't having a. traditional Mormon wedding. Its always sad when you have to cut out family, but that aside it was perfect. So I understand when folks say "oh that has to be boring" or think its trashy just cuz you're not having a traditional wedding.

The wedding is for the couple, not the guests. It's the couple's special day so it should be tailored to their desires. If you want a very expensive wedding, make one, if you want your wedding to just have 4 guests, do it! In my culture (southern Italy), we like extravagant weddings, with traditional music, good food, dancing etc, because it's all about "Fare bella figura" (presenting yourself well, having a good reputation etc). But I don't agree with this view, my boyfriend and I want a small and cozy wedding!

Tbh this is one of these things I don't understand in Islam. While on one hand the Quran sees intoxicants as stanic : "5:90 "O believers! Intoxicants, gambling, idols, and drawing lots for decisions1 are all evil of Satan’s handiwork. So shun them so you may be successful.". We see that also the Koran talking about having wine in Paradise 47:15 "The description of the Paradise promised to the righteous is that in it are rivers of fresh water, rivers of milk that never changes in taste, RIVERS OF WINE delicious to drink, and rivers of pure honey.. Will there be intoxicants in "paradise"? For rhat matter will there be weddings in the Islamic after life?

I’m not religious but I agree with this so much. I’m thinking about getting married soon and when it happens I want it to be quiet and private with few to no guests, definitely not flashy and expensive. Marriage is about the couple starting their own family and it doesn’t make sense to me to start a family by having an expensive, often alcohol-soaked party when I don’t even like that kind of event to begin with. Probably just me and him in the woods somewhere.

Well you both make a fair point but u know since we aren't allowed to serve alcohol at Muslim weddings and don't dance and party like non-muslim weddings do but in my opinion Islamic weddings aren't just about the fun its also the love and support you receive from family and friends.. since the couples big day and it really have to be extravagant or highly over the top, if I was the bride I'd tell my wedding planner to rather keep it plain and simple with just the right amount of beautiful touchings and decorations and whatnot also doesn't have to be too expensive but just as long there's lot of love and support and everyone's happy and I love about is that making dua for the couples and families which is part of the tradition but for me it was always the best part about weddings:))

My wedding was beside a lake in a beautiful garden. We had our 4 closest friends and families, and then enjoyed a wonderful dinner. It was exactly what I wanted and we had a great time. I think the wedding should be what the couple wants. I've had just as much fun at simple backyard weddings as huge expensive fancy weddings.

In the US, the wedding & the reception are two different things. They can or don't have to be at the same venue. The wedding ceremony can be religious or civil. The reception can be a simple dinner with family all the way to an extravagant party & everything in between. It all depends on the couple's style, preference, & definitely budget. The ONLY thing that is important are the vows of commitment promised during the ceremony.

I think it's a cultural differences because for ME wedding means not just two people tying together but the two families which not just include elders but children also so not equally but I'll make sure everyone enjoys their time (of course you can't make everyone happy but that's the least you can do) Having a wedding means to interact with each other and try to understand each other in this way you'll get comfortable with your new family easily Especially in families where the bride have to lives with groom's family

Yes,the wedding might be boring for the guests but not for the bride&groom.if they have intermixing, songs&alcohol then there will be other funs that the groom will have but if there are none of these things, then the only fun and desire the man will wish for is to see, interact with his wife.don't waste money on these events just save them and enjoy with your wife on the beach of maldives or where else you want

Coming from a Muslim background, actual Muslim weddings were very rare because we come from an Eastern/Southern European culture which involves music, dancing, etc We literally throw money at the bride and groom at the wedding because it's in our culture to give them money and there's unfortunately some judgement from older/superior relatives because they sometimes tend to judge the bride or groom on how they are serving their spouse. In my opinion, it really depends on the culture and society the person is, Muslim or non-Muslim. Like for me, if someone wanted an Islamic wedding, I would 100% respect that as it's their choice and i've had relatives who married and had an islamic wedding with no music, dancing but, with the person doing their vows and the spouses having time privately. But, again it really depends on the person and how they view weddings and what needs to be featured. Btw you are cuties and an amazing couple! May God bless you ❤

I could give up alcohol, but nit music and dancing. Could settle for acapella, but would still dance and most importantly, given my culture, the most fun would be taken away if men and women were sepparated, as we engage in some mixed gender (and sometimes very cheeky) activities during our weddings in my culture.

I don’t think I would NEED the party atmosphere of a wedding..but it can make for some seriously hilarious (or AWFUL) stories that are retold year after year, generation to generation.
