Lol I love that you remind folks it doesn't need to be perfect. Most of my garden/animal stuff I build is very reminiscent of Gilligan's island lol but my plants and critters dont seem to mind

Oh its been hot but not super humid this year. It got humid yesterday and oof! Picking berries and working in my greenhouse was a struggle. By the time I got done my hubby thought I had had an accident with the hose and asked if he needed to go change a broken one out for me lol. I was dripping. My best advice is make some homemade Gatorade. Its basically a bit of good salt and a bit of fruit juice(your choice) and water. Helps replace the electrolytes you're sweating away. Or your cucumber water. I know you had a video on it last summer. I ended up with a headache last night as I overdid out in the heat. After a couple cups of powerade(I had some left from flu season) the headache went right away. I do tend to forget to drink plenty while working

Yes, very hot 2 hours south of you all here in north Arkansas. We had almost no rain for all of June, but a very good,wet spring prior to June for which we are very thankful. Now praying that God will open the windows of heaven and pour us some good, sizeable rains and some milder temps if He be willing of that. Thank you for your videos.

We need not let our guard down. It's here to stay as long as some don't think of others and ourselves. Our son , wife, kids and his grandbabies have had it twice. Been lucky when it came to the babies, quick recovery. We are in this together, let's continue to wear our masks and sanitize. 🤞✌️🙏😷😷

I'm thinking of making a portable shade structure in this style, that I can drag around close to my projects. I noticed Kevin's saw was out in the sun; in Texas, shade makes a huge difference in the comfort level!! I use Aluminet shade cloth; it doesn't just provide shade, but is also a radiant barrier.

I’m on the north side of the Red from you, 8:30 pm and still 101! I have tarps over my cheapie small pen. Working on a bigger pen, 2 hog panels leaned together at ridge line, wider openings to the top, covered with chicken wire. Tarp over one end. I’ll get it figured out one of these days!

We're putting composite decking on this summer. Fortunately, to the south our neighbors have 50'+ oak trees so mitre saw is always in the shade. Abundant trees here in Michigan. Love Texas, not in the summer, though.

@@cynthiajordan3420 a local new berry farm/market/pig farm is having issues with coyotes and raccoons and opossums and weird enough skunks. They ended up having to stop free ranging their hens. The skunks and fox were finding the eggs and just chowing down. Thats a recipe for Mr fox eating the girls. The coyotes were trying to get into the hog enclosure to go after piglets this spring. I warned her that hubby and I saw a black bear about 10 years ago when picking blueberries there when the prior owners had it. She told me her hubby didn't believe her that she saw a black bear last year before they opened to the public I told her that while very rare there are still black bears here in michigan(lower middle).

We have one silkie we got free. He's a small little rooster but king of the homestead, ruling over roosters twice his size. He's also super sweet, does the dance, clucks for the ladies if he finds food, and used to follow my wife around and protect her from a more aggressive rooster (that we freezer camped) .

@@meanqkie2240 She called them Cuckoo Morans and they are black with white speckles. Malines are solid black. I believe they are a hybrid of maybe barred rock and Malines, as it appears that the farm she is getting them from are heavy into breeding. Just my opinion. It would be interesting to see the color of their skin close up. That would be a give away.

We are at 73 degrees, our Humidity is now 97 %, it was at 99% an hour ago. We have been having Thunderstorms. You can hear the rumblings in the distance. Supposed to have Stormy weather for the next few days. Lightning struck one of our large old pine trees yesterday. It took out our Router for the internet and it has done damage to our satellite system. We have the internet situation fixed. Still no TV. Which isn't the end of the world. The weeds are loving it. Growing wildly. The potatoes need to be dug. I really don't like to walk in the garden when it is saturated, but I may have to. Enjoyed the Hoop coop build. Great job, great video. GOD bless

My husband and I worked out on the 4th all day long and when the day was done we were both sick from the heat. We live in Oregon and definitely don’t have to deal with heat and humidity, thank goodness. He had to go back to work on Tuesday and it was a bit rough. Stay safe and healthy.

I built a similar "hoop house" from PVC pipe. Covered it with chicken wire. Worked out well. Mine was to grow blueberries in and keep the birds out.

It’s been dry in my area of Michigan. The temps have been in the 80’s with one week in the high 90’s. We sure could use some rain. When Sarah said you saw Tex running off into the sunset I laughed out loud. Stay safe. Would love to see some house plans.

I believe it is called La Nina which happens every 11 years because of the Sun. It will cause heat waves and long droughts across the Nation.

Southern California here. It's actually been a nice summer so far. I live in the high desert region and it would normally be close to 100F during the day and in the seventies at night. Right now we are high 80s during the day going to the mid-to-high 60s at night. It IS supposed to start heating up this week into the mid-90s. Of course, being in the desert, the humidity is low. We had some rain a couple of weeks ago, which is unusual and I wouldn't mind some more; however, that is very unlikely. Kevin and Sarah, I wish both of you a speedy recovery and smoother times ahead.

I’m in GA and have been getting heat advisories every day. Today, the expected temps will feel like 105. We’ve gotten quite a bit of rain after a long dry spell and the humidity is punishing. Be careful, I spent the night in the CCU unit at the hospital recently. The doctors were concerned I’d had a stoke. Turns out I was dehydrated and had gotten much too hot. It’s no joke. Love your videos and have learned so much. Those Bresse chickens are amazing!!

These hoop coops are such a great idea. Even if a coop isn't what a homesteaders is needing this design can be used as simple shelter for other livestock as well! Use a couple t-posts to make a shelter more stable and leave one end or both open. Ya'll stay out of the heat as much as possible! I love silkies! And they sell nice as well if you ever want to make them productive on the farm other than eggs and pets! I really like the new chickens you choose for meat birds..both breeds are pretty. Weather here in NW AR is about the same as what you all have in Ava!

Absolutely, cattle panels work really well for a small hoophouse. If you possibly can, buy the heavy UV-resistant greenhouse plastic to cover it. The cheap stuff at big box stores will get brittle and start to fall apart in just one season.

The weather is definitely not normal here in SE Ohio and we do not tolerate the heat as well after having the 19. We are in our 60’s so we have to pace ourselves more and work early and late in the day!

I was never diagnosed with 19, but 21 days after my vaccination I was in the cardiac ward with heart failure. I had just had a stress test and heart sonogram, and I was healthy. I haven't been the same since. Very hard to even walk.

The weather has been wonky here in SW Ohio as well. Huge temperature fluctuations and a lot of heat advisories. We have some pop up canopy’s that were under $40 at Walmart. They make a inexpensive, quick and easy shade area when doing projects outside. If you were in shade it would help some. Love watching you guys. God bless!

Being 7,000 ft above sea level and living on a ski resort in Eden, Utah, my patience for gardening like we did in the south has been tested. In times past, I planted too early and the frost got them. I grew my seeds in my cabin for 2 months but when I planted they just didn’t take, and germination delays make for a very short growing season. I really need a greenhouse on my four acres to solve this but it’s a task that I’m not ready to undertake just yet after brain surgery. But right now our weather is so cool and beautiful. It’s in the 50s and 60s and at some point will get to the 80s. While my 92 year old Dad says it’s 100 degrees on the Missisissippi Gulf Coast and humidity just thick thick, we are just living it. Thanks to you, I’ve done your tomato canning and I’ve never ever tasted better. Thanks to you, my 21 hens ( my girls) lay 21 a day where we’ve pickled, given to family, given 10 dozen to the homeless shelter, and getting ready to warmer glass as we get 4 feet of snow. I even tested the Cornish cross meat hens (10) and I surprised myself at 19 weeks got 7 plus lbs birds and 5 lbs being the smallest. Just loved the taste and wished I would have done 30. I have to figure how to keep separate as they were picked on and 2 killed by the larger layers. I learned a lot. Our fruit trees this year have fruit like I’ve never witnessed. We are truly blessed as I shed tears of thanks. I appreciate your faith and your content. Blessings to you and your family. Weather here is just gorgeous

I’m in zone 6. Had to plant my tomatoes 2x. Planted last week of May. We had so much rain and cold weather and blasts of extreme heat. Some plants have fruit, but many are just now starting. Seems growth was stunted, but the little spurts of rain have doubled their growth every time. Humidity has been unbelievably high. I’m surprised blight has not set in. I hope to use this hoop house for a greenhouse come next winter. Thanks for the inspiration- stay cool!

We've had that problem. The really cool weather has kept our tomatoes and peppers from really taking off, but we should still be able to salvage them. I have had no room to start seeds indoors so we feel behind this year in every way. The weather definitely hasn't helped this.

I have learned so much from you guys! I'm happy to see how the Hoop Coop goes up. Pretty nifty. I's in the Pacific Northwest (Washington). Our winter wouldn't give up for a long time, then Spring hung on like a pesty gnat. We were All set to put in a garden, and just couldn't because of the weather. At best we are absolute novices at this gardening stuff, especially since we moved from sunny California to weather whatever land. We did finally get our veggies, flowers, fruit trees and shrubs in. It's all growing pretty good. We will have lots of spinach and Brussels Sprouts, but the broccoli bolted immediately. Next year I hope to have a hot house going on. I told my girls, if we had to rely on our gardening skills for food, we wouldn't make it! Thank goodness the grocery store is a short distance away!

The weather is crazy in Ohio as well! Tons of rain at first, then no rain for at least a month with mid 90’s and horrible humidity and now rain again but muggy! Covid hit us in December. We recovered in a week but it takes a month or more for that extreme exhaustion to fade. Especially in this heat! Ugh! I feel for you guys!!! Stay hydrated!!!!!! God bless!!!

As another Nancy in Michigan has said, it is dry and high 90s with an occasional 80s - and BLESSED today it dropped to 75 degrees. We start out working early in the morning and then find other things during the day and then go back out in after 6pm. We do not have farm animals as we have 200 acres of land for wildlife we hunt and farmers nearby we purchase eggs from. But our garden and building our firewood pile (how we heat the house) has been challenging. With no air conditioning we've had the temps in the house as high as 99 degrees. My husband and I were sick last November, and when Kevin spoke of struggling more so in the heat following his recovery - it sent a lightbulb off for me. My husband scared me with what I thought was heat exhaustion while working on his boat - so we can add more fish to our pantry! He's never struggled like that before. So, as Kevin remarked on his struggle - I shared it with my husband as a possible answer for his inability to work outside as he always has in the heat. Yet, our family in northern western Michigan of the Upper Peninsula have had rain, rain, rain.

I can't wait to see those little silkies in their new home! I'm in Seattle Wa. We have had the coldest rainiest spring for 74 years! At least that's what they say. It was only 2 weeks ago I was still wearing winter sox during the day and to sleep in. Brrr cold feet! However, July has come and brought with it nice, summery sunny days. Thank goodness! I'm amazed at what you accomplish in the heat. Several years ago I got heat stroke and now I have a sensitivity to the heat. When it's too hot --80+--I can't do a thing! Your land looks great!

I saw big smile on Tex's face. Your calves look wonderful! I'm not too far from Ava (an hour SE) and we haven't had any rain for 2 straight months. It's just awful outside. Everything but the garden is brown and crunchy. The black berries have also struggled this year. Tiny compared to normal. Keep cool and hydrated!

In south Mississippi we were in the 3 digits by mid June…very uncommon. We’re usually not in the 100’s til July and August. We also experienced a time of drought during this same period, however now the rain is playing catch up. I’m a little…no a lot, anxious about our hurricane season. Anyways, Gods got this. Want you to know that we love your channel. We are retired and doing the homesteading life as much as we can being in our late 60's and early 70's. We live in northern NH, and the weather has been different here as well. It started with the month of May being very hot and dry--more like our July. Since then the weather has been like a yoyo--hot one day (high 70's and 80's) and the next day morning temps starting out in the 40's. Anyway thanks for sharing your lives. We have learned alot from watching you--about gardening, about preserving, about equipment and gadgets...Kevin, I hope your folks get better. Caring for our aging parents is stressful. Take care. Love your videos! Lived 40 years in Mississippi and now the last 10 years in Montana. I 100% DO NOT miss that awful heat & humidity! It is so draining. We have had a wet (for us) and cool spring and summer. We need some hot weather for our warm loving crops! Take care!

My parents had a farm in Pierce City M0. when I was a small kid.. Right then I decided FARMING was way more work than I wanted when I grew up. So went into electronics, and computer programming. LOL I remember the POLK Greens and Wilted Watercress my mother made with hot bacon grease for us.. Good Stuff! Welcome to Missouri. I remember picking up arrowheads when my dad plowed.. My summer here in Knoxville, TN is miserable also. Temps in the 90's with heat index 10° higher than the air temp. The humidity is so bad this year. This is the worst summer in several years we have had also. Continue to work smart yoi two. Heat exhaustion is nothing to mess with. Love your channel. I love the Hereford breed! My grandpa used to raise them! It seems like now, almost everyone is switching to the Black Angus & other black breeds & Angus crosses. I love watching your channel! Keep up the good work! Love the hoop coops too!

The heat and humidity is everywhere. I've struggled more this year as well. At first I thought it was just me, but so many people are saying the same thing. I know this year has been by far the hardest to me just trying to keep up with everything outside. I have to do a little at a time just trying to get things done. I'm a outdoors person but but this heat has really gotten the best of me to. Take time in between to rest and recoup and stay hydrated so you can regain your strength from the nasty virus that seems to be spiking again. 3 of my children's households just got hit with it also. Sending prayers and love from my family to yours.

Yes! It got Unseasonably hot and humid here in eastern Tennessee in June. It’s stayed unseasonably hot and humid so far in July. Crazy weather! I love your videos keep them coming please. Oh and congratulations to you on your new build! I’m happy for you!

about Missouri summers, yes, hot and humid. in 2017 we moved to NH to retire, it's cool right now, in the 70, can you believe that? come over for a visit and cool off. Love your stories and your life style. May the Lord continue to bless you all. Thinking of your Dad, I am praying for the Lord's Will to come through soon.

I am looking forward to seeing the next part. Where I live we have this kind of weather until about the last week of October. It gives us a longer growing season, but it is a horrible struggle to work in. An hour nap after lunch will help you get through and lots of that cucumber water. Make sure you are getting enough potassium too, that will help some with the body aches.

Hi Sarah and Kevin. I am from Iowa and it has been just gross out. So hot and humid, not worth going outside unless you have to. We have had weird weather the last couple of years. I am in Sioux City and we barely had snow this winter and it was a cold spring, and we are also in a drought. I am just a backyard gardener, but we planted late and the drought and heat has slowed everything down. Our corn is not even 4 feet tall. Last year our okra was already blooming and this year it is barely 3 ft tall. I have had covid and it has also affected the way my body reacts to heat. I feel like I am way more sensitive to it now, also. I am glad you all are better and pray you and your families continue to heal. Thanks so much for sharing your lives with us. Me and my brother both had Covid in 2020 and we have noticed the same thing with getting fatigued fast from being in the heat. Really just about anything that exerts us. We used to split wood with a splitter for 5-6 hours at a time like it was nothing, now after an hour or so we start feeling it

@@bettyferguson2815 got the vaccine as soon as it was available to me, so did my brother. Since being vaccinated he has gotten omnicron twice. When I had Covid they still had not released that vaccine. As far as the boosters go, if the first 3 boosters weren’t enough then the next 3 won’t be neither. Besides we were told the Moderna and Johnson and Johnson vaccines were over 96% effective.

Loving the coops you build! And the new chicken breeds as well. It started getting extremely hot here in coastal Texas near Houston in late May. June was worse with 100-104 degree days, high humidity. July and August is normally our hottest months so hoping the grid holds up! Little to no rain here even though a tropical system went through but to the east of my location, so humid and miserable. My garden is really suffering, and so are the pastures. The last couple years have been beyond weird extremes! Texas Deb ❤️

I've visited Missouri a number of times, and the summer it can be Missouriable! Here in Michigan, near Lake Michigan we've had more 90 degree days than I can remember ever in a summer (some years we never hit 90), but most days it's comfortable in the 70s and low 80s. Stay cool, love your videos.

I appreciate every little tidbit of information y’all take the time to share with us novices. Now, I will share one with y’all. When my husband and I were younger, we swept parking lots commercially. The upside to that was being able to also do many of the mowing services for our clients. On those melting days in the Louisiana heat and humidity, we’d bring an ice chest and water for our towels that we would wet wring out and drape them around our neck and sometimes over our neck for an instant cooling. Not very attractive but worked excellently. Y’all stay safe, heat strokes are serious.

The weather has been odd this year in MN! Between the 4 wind storms so far a lot of damage has happened. Luckily the heat has been mostly bearable. I've not gotten a whole lot done this year. I'm having some health issues I need to deal with and my energy level is making me unable to do much. So I'm trying to do as much as I can when I can and not stress out about what I haven't been doing! I'm always looking forward to Wednesday and Saturday mornings so I can see all that you two have accomplished! 🙂

103-5 Here all week this week in N TX. Very humid today. I LOVE your Bresse chickens. They are for sure on my want list!! Recommend cutting their wings and putting their feeder maybe inside their coop to keep them from using it to hop out of the mote

Love the hoop coop build. I want one. And I love how Kevin shows us how he builds things. Hopefully, next year I'll build one. Yes, the weather seems weird here too. Hot and humid... predicted thunderstorms that don't come. For awhile it felt way too dry. My pitiful "garden" isn't really a garden. I'm not complaining tho. I just moved in last fall so I'm still getting things set up. I couldn't be happier here.

Oh my goodness! I got a set of silkies last year and they've turned into ober 20 lol we use them like y'all plan to... they're amazing lil mamas and our rooster is so polite and good, does the courting dance even. But I don't have someone to work with me to build them a new house, I wanted to make this so bad!! Bought a large metal walk in type and a larger house for sleeping instead. Maybe one day I can build a hoop coop!!! I'm also really interested in how the bresse turn out. I've wanted them too!

In MN it’s been a really weird weather year. Winter was pretty mild with not a ton of snow, but we completely skipped spring and went from cold to insane heat. My garden is a few weeks behind where it should be with the weather making things tough to get my work done. I think it will all even out though. Stay safe in the heat! You have truly inspired me in so many ways. I would not have a homestead if I had not found you in March 2020.

I’m in Minnesota too. I’m right on the Canadian border. We had such intense drought last summer, record setting. And this year we have had the worst flooding in recorded history. And the weather is flat out bipolar!! Just last week we dipped down to the upper 30’s one night and a couple days before that we were over 100*, bipolar! I had lots of seeds rot and I’m starting to see disease in some plants from being constantly wet. And oh my are the mosquitoes bad!!!! Worst I’ve ever seen!!! Doesn’t matter if it’s 100* I still have to wear a hooded sweatshirt and jeans to work in the garden.

Good morning! I am in MN as well in the center of the state. And yes, the mosquitoes are horrendous this year. Not only do I wear long sleeves and pants outside, and have the same hat as Sarah (it's on their Amazon store) , I have had to use what's called a Thermo cell on my belt, it works! I also had trouble with some germination in the garden but overall the plants are catching up.

@@forrestgump9576 I grew up in Minnesota. If I recall correctly, the Mosquito is the State Bird. What I recall even MORE vividly, back in the 50's and 60's is what we looked like after Mom got done blotting us with Calamine lotion on every bite. :-)) Maine here.

@@forrestgump9576 I wear a mesh hat. It slips on over my ball cap. We have a couple thermacells too. We hunt and fish almost all of our protein so they are game changers for early season hunts. Their effectiveness is greatly reduced though if it’s windy. I usually just cover up as best as I can. Between the mosquitoes, wood ticks, gnats, deer flys, and bulldogs it’s enough to dive you mad! I live way way out in the forest on a river so it’s perfect breeding grounds for all the nasty biting little pests 😡😂

I tested positive for Covid May 25th and I am still tired and coughing but the rest of my family recovered quickly. Doctor said my symptoms could last up to a year, take it easy! Give yourself some slack, prayers

@@cynthiafisher9907 depends. If you let them get as big as they can get, and have at least several that you are adding, and add them at night, then they have a better chance. (Think Buddy System). I also tend to use a No-Peck or even a BluKote spray and spray in the areas most likely to be pecked as a preventative. Not 💯 but it certainly helps. Back of the head and neck, the comb, between the shoulders, top of their rump and the anus area. Those are all tender areas and are usually the first places to undergo the pecking order hierarchy. There will be some bullying as the new ones are put in their place. I've found that when I do all those things together it sure helps quite a bit. Hope that helps.

@@cynthiafisher9907 yeah, if you add a group at one time, along with everything else, it should be successful. I had a mix of sizes etc for yrs. Only lost one or two (the first yr I did that because I didn't know any better). Been good ever since. I love my Silkies! I really love Polish too. When they mix (barnyard mix I call them 😆) they are some of the most stunning birds I've ever had!

When looking at other homestead channels, David and I have said many times, " they need to ask Kevin and Sarah". You two do more research than ALL of the other homesteader we watch. I know working in the heat; it's miserable. We live in Upstate SC and have had 3 heatwaves; our garden is suffering due to the extreme heat. Take care and try to rest; covid zaps your energy for weeks. Thank you, as always. Lee

Yep, Memphis has been having hot, humid weather too. But I grew up in south Texas and I taught my children to play in the morning, come in for lunch and then play inside till late afternoon after it cools off. Covid does sap your strength and stamina. We are getting over round two of it as well.

I had covid about a month ago and have had the same problem with the heat and humidity. I break out into sweats continually. My sister had same issue. Love your channel.

I also noticed the same issue plus brain fog, I took Neem capsules and it really made a big difference! Maybe because it seems what works for malaria works for covid too? Warning: don't take neem if pregnant.

90 F with 75% humidity sounds like a normal day here. It's always humid here in New Jersey. It's 64% right now and it feels refreshing! I'm just glad I don't live down south where the real humidity lives!

Glad to see you both are recovering. I am on the other side of the state in Southeast Missouri. It is scorching hot here! I know it's rough on all of us, but I really feel for all of our animals. We can go into the ac, but they cannot. It's like working a full-time job just to keep them with enough shade and water so they don't get overheated. I went through Covid about this time last year. I have asthma so my case was worse than my husband's. I ended up in the hospital for 4 days with double pneumonia. Even after I was home, it took a very long time for my energy level and breathing to get back to normal. Take it easy and try not to do too much! Rest when your body tells you to rest and be even more careful than normal in the heat/humidity as your body completes the healing process! If necessary, do the bare minimum and ask for help if you need it. As long as the animals have food, shade, shelter, and water, everything else can wait. Please take care of yourselves and each other! We think of you as extended family and would hate for anything to happen to any of you. God bless you and keep you safe. We will keep you in our prayers.

Wonderful addition for the silkies! Love all the tips and tricks you show as to how you are building something. Sorry to hear how the heat is hard to handle this year after being sick. I don't handle heat and humidity well these days at all since my internal thermostat reset itself a few years back which is why I moved to Montana where at least when it's hot we have low humidity levels. I live just a little north of Billings in the South Central part of the state and I have noticed that this year the sun just feels much more intense. Even when the temps are in the mornings are in the 50s and 60s, I need my sun hat to keep the heat off my head. We have been having lots of thunderstorms and it took awhile for things to warm up this spring, but we will be pushing triple digits this coming week. It has been challenging to get projects done because of the heat but just have to keep pushing through as best I can in the mornings since we only have a few good months of weather to work in before winter rolls around again!

Doraville, Georgia here. Our summer has been brutal! A few weeks ago, we were hitting 100+ degrees with 99% humidity and little rain. That finally broke late June and we’ve been getting 1.00+ of rain weekly. I’ve lived here the majority of my life (I’m 66 yrs.) and I can remember one other brutal June. No rain and wild fires springing up every where in the South. It was the year Gatlinburg TN was destroyed. Stay strong guys. Fall will be here soon enough. 💖

Going to be very hot with heat index of over 108 degrees but suppose to get rain this afternoon. Stay safe and cook during this crazy heat wave.
