I've visited the Biltmore a couple of times, It's honestly insane to think that in 1895, just around the invention of the alternating current, some people lived in houses with indoor heated swimming pools and bowling alleys

​@@marlon6598 You need to educate yourself, seriously. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baths_of_Diocletian This was the largest Roman bath. The enclosure was 8 times the size of the Biltmore Estate, the central block of the baths was about 2.5 times the size of the Biltmore Estate. You're right though, these two aren't on the same level. The Romans win by far - considering their baths were so stupendous, they didn't even include a fitness room and bowling alleys and are still larger.

My sister actually lives like 12 minutes away from this place, which is pretty cool. Also, imagine how many rinsing and filling machines you could fit in the Biltmore.

Definitely less strenuous to maintain than the AMF pinsetters. I worked on 82-30’s , 70’s , and 90’s (not the XLI-edge though) for teen years Edit : overall prefer the turret instead of the bin/shuttle/and cups assembly. The whole table assembly is so damn heavy and clunky, rebuilding fingercells all the time sucked too

@@EthanCGamer I prefer steel too, my biggest question is “once ya reinforce a weak point, you will find the next weak point real quick!” But honestly Brunswick did a great job with their pinsetters. Did not get to work on the A2 much as I worked in an AMF lane. But I do have the parts catalogue and manuals! Have every AMF pinsetter committed to memory and always will and have one hell of a good idea on the A2’s have a great day man! Always glad to talk pinsetters with a fellow bowling fanatic!

being from NC I've been there multiple times.. they wanted to make the estate as self sufficient as possible with its own industries and jobs. Its a great place around the holidays when they have Christmas decorations up. A must see

I live about two hours away. Been there to tour it 3 times. You really, really can't grasp how big it is from the outside. It also has an amazing collection of art and artifacts. Truly amazing. It's worth going if you're ever in the area.

I got to visit this year and definitely agree. Learning the history of the building and the way of life for when it was built was very interesting. I feel for the people who say they visited in middle school, but it's worth the visit as an adult.

My aunt was Director of Personnel at Hearst Castle. They had herds of Zebra. The castle *still does* have herds of zebra roaming about, and other African ungulates, too. Does the Biltmore have herds of African wildlife? I think not. Neener, Neener, Biltmore!

I get lost walking into the next room of my trailer home and wonder what I came in there for.. I'd have a hell of a time at that place rediscovering rooms I knew existed but didn't, all the while in a state of confusion of whether the rinsing machine is actually a filling machine in disguise.

Deforesting and reforesting is far superior to importing wood, especially in those days. At least in terms of preserving natural resources. Had he imported the wood, who knows where it would've come from and what forests would've been destroyed without being replaced.

I live in Biltmore Forest, about ten minutes away from the Biltmore House. I visit a couple times a year. Besides the house, they've actually got an entire vineyard and several restaurants on the property. Also fun fact: A couple of scenes from the movie Hannibal was filmed here!

I think opening up for the public was a good thing overall, it brought in tourism from other areas of the U.S., helping the locals, and, since, it's not like touring a gilded age mansion is a bare necessity or anything, so the only people who would tour it are people who can afford it (ie not people struggling to survive).

I live in asheville and the history of the house is pretty neat. The part about cutting down large amounts of forest and replacing the it is actually how forestry started. There's a reason there's a place near Asheville called the cradle of forestry.
