Silver coins can be a bit like buses. You wait what seems like an eternity for one to turn up and then you get two in the same day and the second one is UNBELIEVABLE!!!
One of my best hammered coins to date!!

5:17 The arsenic used in buttons can rub off or get brushed into the air. With all the lead and heavy metals in decomposing metals I encourage you to get a supplement to remove (titrate) it from your system. I soldered electronics for about a decade and suffered fatigue, mental distress, and other symptoms. After a month taking supliments to detoxify I am doing much better. I think it would have said "Cream o Galloway" then shown an ivy leaf with "Ivy Leaf" written underneath, then "Galloway Preserved Cream" then "Gathered daily at the Galloway Creamery where the fresh butter is churned" and lastly "Stranraer." Some ended with "Stranraer on Loch Ryan." Love the post and the infectious excitement. Well done. Keep it coming please!

What a wonderful, beautiful find!!! Good on you, John!!! It's easy to speculate, but I would like to think that figurine is 17th century and was destroyed during one of the Calvinist iconoclasms. It would go right along with the silver shilling, timewise. BTW- I love that slate stylus. I work with slate often and have researched some of the Welsh quarries. All the major quarries in the U.S. were started by Welshmen. Are there slate quarries in Scotland? What do the people roof with in Perthshire? Thanks for another great video.

Hi Callie. I’ll let the museum see the statue and you never know, might be older than I thought!! We used to have many slate quarries in Scotland and few in Perthshire but now all closed I think. The biggest and most famous was Ballachulish near Glencoe and the slates on my roof are from there over 100 years old and still going strong!!! Now we import from wales, South America and china!!

@@thescottishdetectorist Yeah. So sad. We can import Chinese and Spanish slate cheaper than we can quarry our own. Chinese green slate are decent rock. Black Spannish has a rough grain. Won't lay flat. It's funny to me that you call Welsh slate "imported". LMAO

Here's a bit of Scottish history that you probably don't know. Many men in the Orkney Isles joined the Hudson Bay company and served 20 years in Canada. When they returned with money in their pockets they decided to have the thatched roof replaced with slate.* What they did not know is that the Smallpox virus can live as spores in a thatched roof. After the first few died the rest turned around and went back to Canada. The women were immune because they already had contacted cowpox. *We have Caithness slate which is about a half an inch thick.
