Wars are a way to maintain or gain wealth by stealing it. Secondly war is used as a means of control to scare others. Thanks to India, China, Russia, Iran, and Turkey I don’t think the USA could invade another country as easy as it was before.

@Guybrush Threepwood It's possible to know. Many books and articles have been published on this subject. Karez or Qanats have nothing to do with China or Chinese culture. They were invented long before China became a unified state over two thousand years ago. The oldest Karez are over 7,000 years old. Their origin belongs to the Iranian plateau, not China.

This area is only china in name. The Tocharians were the people who built the silk road long before china. The aryans spread this knowledge all across asia. China will never release the results of the dna tests on the mummies from this region because they are European in origin. It goes against the china first policy. Even the paintings in the caves had their faces destroyed. The clothing still gave it away. Tartan patterns are a dead give away. They were master textile artisans. Soon even the origin of silk itself will be challenged. The chinese have alot of archaeological data they are not sharing because it doesn't fit with their narrative of china did it first. Professor Victor Mair of Penn museum has excellent documentaries on this region. Highly recommended

This system is common throughout NW China. The early inhabitants of the region were Sino-Tibetan, East Iranian and Tocharian (a misnomer by Early European scholars. They called themselves by the towns they lived, such as Tuti and Agni). The inhabitants were Indo-European Buddhist for millennium and Islamization started in around 10th century AD. They are now known as Uighur but this is also a misnomer as the real original Uyghur people spoke a Siberian Turkish language and believed in Shamanism. There are direct descendants of Uyghur living in Gansu who still speak the Uyghur language and are Buddhist. The Xinjiang Muslim Uyghur speak a Chagatai language which is almost identical to the Uzbek language.

it has lot to do with soil chemistry. If there are not water soluble or water reactive components then there shouldn't be problem. The documentry says the system is centuries old and you don't see much erosion but silting instead. When water erodes, it even eats through solid rocks and cliffs.

What China has achieved over the 4 decades were not just its visible glittering buildings, and first-class infrastructure. For the inherent strength of China’s rejuvenation lies in its commitment towards sustainable growth and development with a focus on the environment and green technology. Similarly, China places great emphasis on the continuous development of humanity by the embrace of culture, science and technology as its priority. Over the last 40 years, China has increased its forest cover from just 12% to 23% now. When one takes into consideration that of China’s national frontier stretches some 9.6 square million kilometres, about the size of the United States. In other words, China has planted just over 1 million square kilometres of forest. That is the size of Egypt! China is also the only country in world which has successfully reversed the seemingly unstoppable desertification, by turning its desserts into forest, farm lands, and wetlands. The area of desertified land in the country is dropping by an annual average of more than 2,400 square kilometres, or 3 times the size of Singapore, compared to what used to be an annual average expansion of over 10,000 square kilometres at the end of the last century. By 2014, China had completed and commissioned its mid-line stretch of the South-North Water Diversion Project. This 1,300 kilometres dedicated, largely gravitational-flow, water supply channel diverts water from the Danjiangkou Reservoir in the upper reaches of the Han River, passing through mountains; crossing rivers; and finally reaching and transferring 9.5 billion cu meters of water annually to Beijing and Tianjin. To put that into perspective, the annual per capita water consumption of the Asian cities: Tokyo, Singapore, Seoul, and Hong Kong are at 84, 52, 104, and 80 cu meters per annum respectively; with the average consumption of 80 cu meters per annum. In other words, the amount of water transfer annually is adequate to sustain an urban population of over 110 million people with clean and potable water.

Bumi Menggala You blame the Han for destroying them, even when the Xiongnu had: 1) raided Chinese borders even before the establishment of the Xiongnu state. 2) almost captured or killed the Gaozu Emperor 3) received tribute (heqin) from the Chinese Emperor in the form of a Han princess and gifts. Even then it wasn’t enough to stop the Xiongnu from raiding their borders. 4) presumed to call themselves equal to the Han Emperor, considering that the Han outnumbers them in numbers of cities, population, and technology. All of which made the heqin even more embarrassing. The Chinese are the same people who build the Great Wall to prevent people like the Xiongnu from raiding further into their territory. Clearly, they didn’t start the war but are willing to end it, which Emperor Wu of Han did by destroying their power. In the end, the Xiongnu fractured into two due to a civil war between the southern Xiongnu and the northern Xiongnu. All because of a weak succession system that doesn’t acknowledge the elder son’s right to rule, but giving all of it to his uncle. When that happened, even the Xiongnu was willing to prostate themselves before the Han Chinese they had raided so often for the Han to intervene in behalf of one of the factions.
