My grandpa in Switzerland invented a wood splitter some 70+ years ago that I’ve seen others on KZfaq build as well. Some of you have probably seen them on here, it’s basically a large screw approximately 6” diameter at the large end, it screws itself into the wood causing it to split. After we moved to the states my dad in then mid 70’s built one to try and get a patent and eventually a large investor to start building it. They had several companies like John Deere that were very interested in it, the only reason they didn’t invest was because they couldn’t figure out a reliable safety mechanism. The best design/copy of my grandfather’s idea on KZfaq was a guy that designed the screw to attach to the bolt pattern on his truck, so he would drive back to where the trees were fallen, cut them into rounds then remove his tire and attach the screw to his hub and place something on his gas pedal to keep it spinning. After the pieces were split he’d just throw them in the bed of his truck, when done just remove the screw reattach the wheel and head home

You can't patent something that is already public domain. This type of splitter has been "invented" hundreds of times. My dad "invented" a hydraulic splitter, like hundreds of engies and handymen before him.

Yeah your grandfather DID NOT INVENT the cone screw wood splitter. It was also BANNED in the USA for being extremely dangerous to use.

I need that hand-held debarker, but in a smaller size, for craftwork....something that could fit on a battery powered multi-tool fir smaller pieces of wood.

Save the bark from hardwood trees. Use to smoke meats or sell to smoke manufacturer. Most of the flavor is in the bark.

How is burning wood pellets environmentally friendly? Wood is how nature stores CO2. Burning the wood in any form releases the CO2 into the atmosphere. Not environmentally friendly. If the leaves, etc are just left on the ground then the CO2 gets stored within the soil. Likewise if you just bury or compost this material.

If you burn them, then when it rains, the co2 gets spread back down evenly to the ground. Pile of leaves to concentrated bad.
