You can slide a bit if steel plate under the corner of the shield to protect the components before the cuts. With the steel you could probably cut down until you hit it and make the snap-off easier.
@rodrigomaero

The capacitor you ripped the end off, you can turn it 90º or 180º and solder it back down on the board. Assuming the internal layers of the component are still good it should be fine!

For cutting shields, have you tried using something like cuticle scissors or maybe surgical micro scissors? If it can cut the metal, it might offer more control than using an exacto blade.

Two things? First, you seem to have the confidence of a ninja when holding that cap in the tweezers and even moving it so far from the work area. If I even try to grab them with tweezers, they act like little flees and jump around to some UNKNOWN place. Excellent job sir! Second, My generation grew up watching Beavis and Butthead, so how are you able to do this kind of work, and especially not shake, working with small components? Under the microscope I look like Beavis when he had to much caffeine and became Cornholio. 🤣🤣

Hey, thanks! Yah.. I could have blamed anything except I recorded my clunky screw-driver prying away at that poor little cap! I think the customer probably didn't realize this much was damaged. Watching a teardown to see where all of those antennas were probably would have helped though! The original LCD & digitizer weren't included... I suspect they didn't survive too well after having a pry tool ran 360 degrees around the edges!

I was thinking the same about doubling the price,🤔I would have charged double and then tell him I gave a discount on top of it. Then I would have said I ate the rush delivery charge since we didn’t have the extra cap in house.😏 Then I would have said next time he should make sure it doesn’t move around in the shipping box and damage components like that cap you had to replace.😲🤭😳

I simply don't understand owner repair attempts., I'm a bio-med engineer repairing medical equipment all the time and there is zero chance I'd even attempt to open the case of phone or pad. It doesn't matter that I can read a schematic like it is a comic book, I don't have the requisite tools or practiced skills in such devices.. Ultimate electronic entertainment. Telemetry system. Within 24 hours it would drop out and report an error. 1 month later.... intermittent cap. They all tested good under load on the bench. I ended up replacing them all - 42 total.

Hi Jason: Not to have any ball squeezing Ha. As an electrical engineer now at the young age of 67 and still having fun, but way on the other end of the plane meaning your work is micro and mine is mega, I really am a geek at heart and love your micro surgerys I watch with amazement. As only working with mega watts you handle micro seamlessly it is so mind boggling to me but your talent is the future for all. I only hope and pray that there are and will be young men and women to go forward with your trade and all other trades and not be part of the woke crowd. God Blees to you and family.

Thank you! I really appreciate the comment. I am hopeful that even if the mobile device side of this business becomes non-sustainable that the skillset will be useful for repairing many other devices. hi!! found your page and i’m really impressed with your processes and explanations!! was wondering if you could maybe help me? my iphone 13 was dropped last week and everything was working fine aside from a broken back glass. had the back glass repaired but had problems with getting a sim card signal (still have wifi and bluetooth), the phone suddenly draining really fast (like a 40% charge drop in 2 hours when it was not in use) and the phone getting hot. brought to a few technicians and they said it was a baseband problem and they tried to repair/transplant parts but they said they couldn’t fix the cellular signal because it’s shorted? would you be able to explain what happened and if there’s still a chance to get it fixed (and how)? i just bought this second hand phone for my first job and i’d really be bummed if i won’t be able to use it for work anymore because i really need the cellular signal. thank u in advance!!
@ststele
@ststele 3 ай бұрын
Hey, thanks! I'm really sorry to hear about the problem with the 13. If the problem with sim card/signal started after the back glass repair then there's a chance that the repair may have caused it. To be fair to the tech that did the back glass repair, it could have also been something hanging by a thread and the phone being worked on just triggered it. For the attempts to repair the service issue, if the technicians that tried swapping parts were talking about logic board related components then they may have narrowed it down to a shorted baseband CPU... Unfortunately that part can become shorted and is not replacable. I am worried that is the trouble with your phone. There's a chance it may be repairable but if someone already tried then the chances are not good. Sorry I can't give better news!

How can I now without a tristar tester if this is chip or flex cable ?
@RalphVB
@RalphVB 3 ай бұрын
if you have no power then you need to find out where the short is coming from. The best solution is to track it with a thermal cam after you hook it up to the power supply. After you've done a gazllion of them you can make accurate educated guesses like he does. Before that you can get board viewer for your device and see what is conncted to where. It's advisable to have some prior knowledge of electronics and how circuits work. If you have microsoldering tools and abilities, you can also just take the chip out and replace it, it's really not expensive at all.
@ststele
@ststele 3 ай бұрын
Before I started using a Tristar tester on these I would usually hook up a charger & make sure 5v was making it to the board, then check voltage at the battery terminal - If close to zero, I'd replace Tristar and then replace the dock flex if it still didn't charge. Many times I'd just wind up replacing both anyways!

He is on another level my man, you can't compute how he thinks. Everything is done so much better and to call him out on it is ludicrous. I mean you saw how long it took in real time, that was literally less than 5 minutes. Him popping/breaking the cap was due to his constant talking as he goes for the video.
