@@Dell-ol6hb I believe most people just didn't want to bother with the glasses, also the amount of content was restricted mostly to blu-rays at the time. It's a shame most 3D blu-rays are only available overseas now. Though there were some built in TV apps on the very last years 3D TV's were made that could stream 3D content. But with VR and gaming, I think glasses free 3D has a much better chance at becoming a thing, particularly useful for 3D modelers and graphics artist. If you want 3D today on a large screen, they still make DLP projectors that have it built in.

I've got a 2006 Acer Travelmate 2420 Win/Lin/Hackintosh laptop that still seemingly holds a full charge. It's pretty slow by today's standards. But it works. I bought it new back then and gave it away to 3 different people in my family who gave it back when they got a new one. Every now and then I pull it out to see how everything is holding up. Remarkable build quality for the time and a great match for classic mac OSX 10.4.8. Only needed a jumper in the VGA.

I've got a 2012 acer laptop (don't even remember the model) that I bought before I was much into tech that I based the decision solely off of build quality. Every other laptop I tried had horrible deck flex and felt like it'd shatter if I just put my backpack down too hard, whereas the acer felt like a brick. It still holds up to this day, my brother used it as a media pc in our shop room while he did work for a home business for many years starting around 2016 to watch shows while he made stuff. Even now, I could probably go down there and boot it up and have it work just fine. Was only about $700, I used it to play games on for 3 years when I first bought it and it did a fair enough job (apart from sounding like a jet engine) think its rocking an i5, onboard graphics, and 8gb of ram or somethin. It might have had an SSD swapped in when my brother used it, but I can't remember. Think it was originally 500gb hdd.

As an original owner of the first generation of 3D tv’s I am unashamedly excited for 3D to come back. I knew 3d would come back and now having tvs/monitors with high refresh rates, better clarity and most importantly not needing to wear glasses. This is gonna be awesome! Black Ops 2, Crysis 2, Killzone 3 in 3D was awesome in the early 2010’s. Now that they wont run at 30fps it will hopefully be a full fledged experience worth the cost of entry.

I appreciate the media controls being built into the trackpad - not sure I'm sold on the execution 100%, but as a heavy excel user, I find myself using function keys (F4 specifically) a lot, and in some cases I'd rather have the function keys available all the time but still have quick access to volume/playback controls. Trackpad may make sense for that.

It's especially bad because passive 3D would have been great with 4K TVs. 1080p was just too low for passive, and active 3D had some big design issues (though it'd work much better with the current 120hz TVs). LG made a couple of OLEDs up to 2016 that were 4K and passive 3D, and they're considered by far the best TVs for watching 3D content. Sadly, it came at a time when nobody wanted 3D anymore, and even if you buy one now it'll probably have serious burn-in.

The first one was described as "1600p" (vertical), the second as "2.8k" (horizontal). That makes it kind of unnecessarily hard to see how big the difference (around 12.5% better pixel density) actually is.

The 14” non-gamer looking one I’d buy if I needed a new laptop. That’s very nice and great i/o in such a small sturdy platform. I like it, we need more of that and less of the landfill crud. People should try their hardest to not buy crappy stuff. Spending just a little more can mean years more use and overall quality of life if you use often. That’s not an overstatement.. having a solid laptop and phone anymore really make a huge difference.

My question about the 3d laptop would be could you watch 3D Blu Rays on it? Do external 3D Blu Ray Drives exist?

back in the early 2000s i had an acer travelmate with dvd player, that thing was cheap and bombproof, lasted years and the keyboard was great to use long term, intel cpu and ATI Rage II graphics

The touch media thing is something you can do in windows with multi finger. And it's really good. 3 fingers up and down does vol. Up and down. 3 fingers left does back and 3 fingers right does forward and tapping with 3 fingers does pause/play

i think that i'll go instead for a Thinkpad T480, which is better, as it's a 15.6" at 1920x1080, with non soldered storage and ram, better io, easy repair/upgradability and costs about the same

Emulating 3DS games is about to be crazy. I use a screen drawing tablet as the bottom screen for my DS and 3DS games, and a 3d display would be the cherry on top.

Would have liked the video to have just concentrated more on the 3d laptop, that was the only thing that was actually interesting... The rest were basically just spec revs of standard laptops... Hoping you guys get the 3d one into the office soon so I can decide if it's something I would want.

Put that 3d display tech in a phone to play videos please. Will sell like hot cakes if it works very good. Maybe that will be the next big hardware upgrade for phones now that all if them are rectangular bricks.

Supposedly the Lit by Leia group are coming out with a 27" 3D monitor that has eye tracking - that would be an interesting unboxing video - as for the Acer I called in and it's not yet available with no preorder or waiting list option on their pretty to look at but pretty useless endless loop options on their website - had to phone to find out they don't know when it will actually be available for sale. :-( Oh, well, thanks for letting us know what's coming down the pipes! I'm especially interested because it's LENTICULAR and not LIGHTFIELD, as you explained in this video, the left/right reduces the resolution by half but the Lightfield reduces it much more so no 4K possible with today's technology. I'll be selling my Lightfield 3D tablet as soon as I get this laptop! Again, thanks for this exciting video! Sharp had a lenticular laptop years ago - 3D seems to come in cycles, every time technology gets better it comes back then disappears. ZTE is doing the 3D tablet and 3D headset right now but their quality is dodgy at best IMHO.

I would absolutely love for 3D to make a comeback. For privacy sake, I think machine learning working with a basic PiR motion detector signal would be better than a camera with eye tracking. Probably cheaper too in parts and compute. An amorphous blob of heat is likely plenty of data to center a 3D image. With only a slight risk that your amorphous off-axis viewing habits will get you sent to the Gulag.
