First past the post, same as Canada. The majority of people in Canada actually voted Conservative, but because of the ridings, we're actually stuck with a Liberal/NDP majority government. Thing is, we had a referendum years ago about this, unfortunately Canadians are not even smart enough to know what it meant.

As a British citizen I can tell my American friends exactly how this happened: 1. The electoral system 2. @michaeljames1468

I'll try to explain the UK voting system in simplistic form. Very archaic. The three nations inside the union (NI is the same but mainland parties don't stand in that province of the UK) are divided up into constituancies (roughly 650). You vote for a party not the leader of the country (party picks them internally. Each one of these constituancies you vote for a party. Now whom ever wins the most votes in that sub-section wins. So all the votes cast in that area that are not for the winning candidate are now automatically void, they don't matter. Some parties have their support in consolidated areas and others are spread around the country. Hence you get this lunacy. Liberal Democrats (like tge democrats only more left and are neither liberal nor democratic) get 3.6m votes and 70+ seats Reform 4m votes for 5 seats. In math....Reform represents 800,00 per MP LD 47,000 per MP. Democracy at it's best. Labour get a hammering in '19 Labour in '24 get the biggest majority this century (if not ever never bothered to look that up) with less votes than '19.

Dear thinking person, what’s your opinion of Adam Smith’s first maxim of taxation in 1776’s Wealth of Nations, that citizens should contribute to paying the State’s bills proportionally to their revenue gained under protection of the State, as members of a great estate share its bills proportionally to their participation in it, and then 18 pages later: the very, very “rich should pay even MORE than in that proportion” ?? (u. Chicago 1976 ed, v 2 pp 350 & 368, my caps). Relief money gets SPENT, making investments profitable, especially to the .001%, but they won’t see it that way. You would think that by now the Brits would be tired of this tennis match of going back and forth between two institutionally corrupt political machines and try something different, but evidently, they don't have the imagination or the intelligence to break free from their overlords. Britain ruled the seas for 500 years, and now they can't see that they've enslaved themselves and their children. Will that suffice your inquiry into "What the hell I'm talking about?" I don’t know what Ant/Deck is so worried about. All of the corporate sponsors that operated the Conservative party have publicly moved their “donations” from the Cons to Labour. They even went on the news to state that they were doing it, just to make it clear to the politicians that it was them that was in charge. Remember the corporate machine always wins no matter who (the 60% that can be bothered) vote for.

The British reporter at the start has to be giving some of the worst analysis of this election I've seen. The problem for the Tories wasn't that they were "too centrist." After all, they have done far better while being more centrist in other recent elections. The problem was that they were incompetent, fighting amongst themselves, lurching to the right and back again with every other announcement. They were incompetent and chaotic, everyone was pissed off at them. Labour, in turn, did a very good job at filling the space in the centre to centre-left that the Tories vacated. They lost voters on their right to Reform, and they lost voters on their left (the centre ground) to Labour and the Lib Dems. The idea that they can win everyone back by just being more right wing has to be one of the most ignorant assumptions about British politics I've seen and just makes this journalist sound like he doesn't understand his own country due to being obsessed with America.

Labour (Keir Rodney Starmer) intend to apply a hefty VAT to private schools, this includes special educational needs schools so if you have children like we do who go to a private special needs school because have special needs, then you will be demolished by his tax on it, and will have to remove them and home school them. We have tried this week to call local schools to accept them but they have told us they don’t have the facilities to accept them, so Keir Starmer is totally ignorant of our needs as parents, he thinks he is doing it to the ‘posh’ kids but has no idea he is wrecking special needs kids chances. Crushing.

To be fair, the Conservatives with the then PM Sunak (whom none of us voted for) were behaving like Labour. Now that we now have a genuine Left wing government, things will only get worse as they strive to carry out their damaging woke policies. The infighting between their many opposing factions within their party will also prove destructive. Not all those who represent Labour have the UK's best interests at heart as can be seen in London and cities throughout the UK.
