mono is more than just a mixtape, it's a whole therapeutical experience

A brief but deeper look into the lyrics: *Tokyo* RM not only refers to the city Tokyo but Tokyo in Korean is 동경 (dong-gyung; 東京) which means “longing, yearning, admiration, aspiration.” It is thus possible to interpret this line as: “Wake up from aspiration.” *Seoul* 너무 많은 한을 품는 한강들과 _Han rivers that take so much Han within_ Wordplay for the two meanings of Han:- Han is a mix of sorrow, nostalgia, anger, pain, and hope. Han rhymes with Han Rivers, although the meanings are completely different. Also could be a reference to the suicide rate in South Korea being one of the highest in the world (according to WHO) in 2016. There have been many that threw themselves into the Han River. *Moonchild* He uses the Korean word 가시 (ga-shi) in 2 meanings: 1) as a 'thorn' - symbolizing a bad/undesirable/negative trait 2) as 'visibility' - what someone is able to see in front of them, symbolizing their perspective/views He is basically trying to say that there may be people who criticize/look down on you. But there will also be someone who 'finds comfort in your thorns'. So stay true to yourself. *Uhgood* The Korean title of uhgood is 어긋. Two meanings of 어긋 (uh-geut) are relevant in the lyrics: (1) fall short of expectations and (2) miss each other (by taking different routes). Mono is full of genius wordplay but even more than that, the lyrics are extremely *emotive* . RM found the perfect balance between them being poetic but direct and frank at the same time. They are deeply personal but relatable to so many. Just reading them on their own even without the music really feels like an artist speaking from their heart. He mentioned that these are songs he wrote in his hardest times and that Forever Rain, especially, is a song that he wants played at his funeral because he doesn't think that there will ever be a song that's more 'him' in any way. He poured his heart into this mixtape and has helped so many people through so much as a result of it.

Mono is a masterpiece and a spiritual experience. And Kim Namjoon is a goddamn national treasure. I could talk for hours how healing his lyrics, presence and music are. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

Mono is an underrated piece of art. Namjoon’s lyricism is absolutely one of a kind and beautiful. Honestly one of my fave albums and the whole construction of the album, each song is just so well thought and put together.

i remember the expression of namjoon when mono dropped. the excitement, happiness and relief just made me feel so happy in a way? years and years of producing this mixtape is just now out there for all of us to see and hear. All the thoughts that he had for the past years are in mono.

MONO is the one of the only things that make me feel nothing and everything at the same time It's a masterpiece that even general people understand......and also a thing geniuses desect every part of.

mono is probably one of my favorite albums of all time. some people say RM (his first mixtape) was written by his persona (rap monster at that time) while Mono was written by kim namjoon. two different sides of him, both amazing and very deep. btw, i really recommend you to check his first mixtape when you find enough time to do it. it was also very personal to him, kinda the same vibe of yoongi's first work as agust d. and hobi's mixtape too!! 💕

i remember the day 'mono' came out. namjoon and bighit hinted absolutely nothing to us until, one day, bighit tweeted the tracklist for the mixtape just three days before its release. this was so out of the blue but oh my god this mixtape/playlist was something I never thought I needed. it's so healing, truly a work of art. i love it so much

Namjoon left his mark on this planet with this one mixtape alone. He did a lot of achievements, did a lot of different things, but this mixtape is the most Kim Namjoon and rawest works he has ever released. Its something to listen to alone, a song used to reflect, its a masterpiece.

Mono is the only reason I never got bias wrecked since almost 2 years. Their group is full of talent kings but I'll never change by bias. Although I love all of them and support equally. It's very hard to find a person who has namjoon as bias but people who stan RM I want to say thankyou for recognizing his talent.

mono makes me cry. 1. It's raw emotion, that Namjoon can't put into words outside of songs. He rarely cries and shows any negative emotions. So, hearing his true thoughts and how he's feeling through everything just hits different. 2. It's beautiful. No, seriously. Mono is fucking beautiful. Like honestly, give this mixtape all the awards. I legitimately cry because it's so beautiful. Especially tokyo and forever rain. 3. While Yoongi / Agust D came hard and barely gave you time to express and drink in all the feelings he wants you to feel, Hoseok makes you feel happy with obviously serious undertones, Namjoon is slow and tells you everything in perfect detail. His lyrics are literally genius and I love him. I need more raspy, low tone Namjoon in my life, honestly. He hasn't released any new mixtape or solo stuff [that I know of] since mono in 2018 and I need more.

Mono is a masterpiece. It takes me to another dimension. It's a no skip kind of "album", you just have to listen to the whole thing everytime. Turn off your lights at night, lay in bed, close your eyes, listen to Mono with earphones, and just transport through another dimension.

Like you I thought this shows his transgression from being a Rap Monster to the emergence of the Real Me. Namjoon is such a wonderful lyricist. The song that touches close to my heart personally is Everythinggoes. A powerful song that breaks vulnerability and yet gives hope. Second favorite is Forever Rain. This is a beautiful mixtape. Namjoon is one of the person I would love to have conversations with. He has a beautiful sexy brain with all respect.😄💜

I love how badbye is the turning point in the mix tape, the first half of the instrumental in a haunting minor key to suit the first three songs, and the second half in a hopeful sounding major key. It represents moving past sadness and depression and into hope and recovery. And then in ughgood the healing process begins, and is then followed by everything goes, telling us bad times will eventually pass - it's just so well thought out and fitting, I love Mono.

Forever Rain is one of my favorite music videos ever, not only because the song is so thought-provoking, but because the animation and the art goes with it so well; as an animation major in college I really appreciate the work that went into creating the atmosphere surrounding one of my favorite songs!

mono. is actually a spiritual experience, it's so underrated only because there are no "hype songs" or fast raps but I think that it really shows Namjoon's soul, I'm so grateful for this album, it really comforted me during difficult times! I'm sure RM will release another mixtape in the next few years! So far we've gotten 2 mixtapes from RM, 2 from Suga/Agust D and 1 from J-Hope. We know that V and Jungkook are preparing their mixtapes and we may be getting V's before the end of 2020!!! and as far as we know JK's mixtape is pretty much ready as well so we're hopefully gonna get these 2 quite soon :)

For me, mono is a remedy. I always listen to it when I feel down or depressed and it's just so healing. Hearing RM repeating that everything will pass and listening to his words and emotions and calm voice always helps me so much. Actually I had a bit tough day today so I thought it's only fitting to see your reaction to it, since I've been looking forward to it and since I was needing to hear mono and man... it made me cry here. And I feel much better right now. I'm just so thankful to RM for creating this masterpiece. Sammy I wish you could watch his VLive where he explained the full mixtape and all the stuff behind it. i sobbed my way through the entire first listen of mono. it was such a comfort straight off the bat and has continued to be. so i got it tattooed as a reminder. i fall back on mono through boredom, stress and sadness. it's crazy to think that one person has the power to make so many people feel so calm and comforted.

I recognize myself so much in Seoul. It's kinda like the symbol of the end of his childhood and the beginning of his new life that's why he hates and loves it. I recognize myself so much. This playlist legit took me through an emotional roller coaster. I cried so much when I listened to it and at the end I felt so at peace. I love to play Forever Rain when it rains 💕

The way mono is my safe place. Everytime i need comfort mono is my way to go, he did so well and it almost feels like every person feels connected to mono in a different way even though it´s the same songs. Nam was so nervous when he released this but I am so proud of him, this is art The rapline are the only members with mixtapes until now, i guess because they have been into producing way longer than the other members. Hobi did a live where he was working on a song and he said several times he is working in his new mixtape and yoongi just dropped D-2. It takes like 3 years for them to complete a mixtape but since there are 3 rappers they usually have enough time. Namjoon said that he has been busy with the album and other stuff so he hasn´t started with his. From the rapline the next one is hobi and Tae said he hopes to release his mixtape before the year ends so we would have their new album (expected in late october) and then tae´s. We´ve been waiting for jk´s mixtape for YEARS but he never feels comfortable enough and often changes songs so we don´t know. JK has been producing more so I hope next year he releases his.

What's really amazing about Joon as an artist, he talks a lot about how he makes songs in order to flow in what could be an endless kind of loop. Like listening to each track in order on Mono you can let it play through and repeat and it all still fits together. The ending sounds for Forever Rain perfectly flows right back into the beginning of Tokyo. Mono is such a comforting project overall he's a great artist and person. 💙

As someone who knows and relates to what he is talking about in Moonchild, I honestly feel like I will keep on listening to it for the rest of my life. I am so incredibly grateful to be a fan of RM and BTS and to hear their message through music. Last fall I played Mono bike riding along the Han river while I was in Seoul for the Speak Yourself tour, it was really a beautiful experience. 😭

Yes Seoul is the capital city of South Korea, note that no member is from Seoul and they all went there to pursue their dreams. So ig here, Namjoon is associating Seoul with his life as an idol and an adult saying that his childhood is now far and he doesn’t know if he likes his current life or not. He is wondering if he is really living his passion to the fullest or trapped by this different, serious and confusing new world. (That is just my take on it, everyone can understand Joon’s work differently and get a different feeling and that’s what I love abt him and BTS. By using clever metaphors, everyone can somehow relate to their lyrics, it’s really amazing)

ngl the first time i heard moonchild it was like 1am and there was a full moon out and when i heard rm say “moonchild don’t cry” i started crying while staring at the moon. idek y but that song put me in my feels especially listening to and reading the lyrics. now it’s just super beautiful to me whenever i listen to it. also my favorite lyric in that song is prolly “thinking of not thinking is still thinking” since i tend to over think lot

RM voice, he can be soft on his song music, and rough when he raps.. but for me - RM is genius, very knowledgeable with words (playful, he read a lot's of book of wisdom). according to 'recently news on Twitter a video of Kim Namjoon demonstrate his piano skill last for 3 sec played piano on "Forever Rain" (his mono). His song 'Dynamite now reach 220 mill. RM & BTS continue to teach us that musical genres, even language are superfluous expressing feeling from the heart.

You have no idea how much calm this mixtape gives me every time I listen to it during my stress and panic attacks, it's therapeutic and healing, also help me to be concentrated in my homeworks, love it with my whole heart 💜

RM has been so busy with MOTS:7, pouring his heart into innovations like Black Swan, the Connect BTS Art Project, and conceptualising and practising for the world tour 2020 that he was truly heart broken and mad at the turn of events having to cancel everything... then they turned their energy into writing another album to produce by the end of the year... his creative self has been on while his performing self feels starved. Unfortunately, wit the second wave of COVID19 community spread in Korea, their live concert scheduled for October is again threatened. Poor RM.
