Doctors are medical professionals. I have had both women as well as Male so that should not matter. Unless a woman wants another actual woman doctor for whatever reason and a man wants a male doctor as primary. However in a hospital you usually don't get to pick in an emergency.

I forgot to say in my earlier comment that I am a woman. A month ago, I had heart surgery and was in hospital for 9 days. I was in a four bed surgical ward with a man and another woman. One bed was empty for part of the time and was filled by a young woman on the fourth day of my hospital stay. My waiting time for non emergency surgery was approximately four weeks. The short wait time was possible due to efficient use of space and beds on the surgical heart ward. If I had to choose between being in a room with only women or in a mixed ward versus getting my heart fixed within a very reasonable amount of time, I would choose the mixed ward every time. I am now recovering slowly but surely and hope to be back to my regular activities in the coming weeks. I am 72 years old and so pleased that where I live, my heart health is more important than whether there is a man in the bed across from me. However, I understand that everyone has their own opinion and perspective. I'm just happy to be alive and well.
