Quite a lot of people who are getting into the isekai genre start off with this one I have noticed based on comments looking for recommendations like this in the past ~4 yrs or so. It's very easy to watch so I can understand why. You don't really have to pay so much attention to the lore etc.

@@Timmycoo my first isekai was overlord and after that it was That Time I Got Reincarnated as a slime and then it Knight’s and Magic, wiseman’s grandchild was a lot later but it was still amazing, demon lord retry was my one of first too, loved it, we’re getting a season 2 of demon lord retry

Even though it's full of clichés and could be considered "Isekai trash" (the good kind of "trash" xD) it's still one the most enjoyable anime out there imo. My best friend enjoyed it so much, he renamed his FF14 as "[His usual username] Wolford" when the anime came out. xD Also, one thing I very much like about this anime, is the fact that Shin is his own person. Yes, he has the memories of his old life, but that's it. He isn't that person, and the destinction is made pretty clear. I really like that.

I always ask myself if this is closer to standard shonen than isekai. If his knowledge was reframed as coming from a spirit of science or a guiding ghost from our world it probably wouldn't get the isekai label, and for all intents and purposes that's almost what's happened.

This is one of my favorites, have watched it several times both dub/sub, I never go in expecting the best or for a series to break the mold, but I've found that this one has done a couple interesting things I really like that I haven't seen too often in other series, the only one I can talk about now is his magic power. In most Isekai the MC becoming OP usually just happens or comes with the role, but here well it was short we do see the MC actually earn his power. For 10+ years he has been trained by the best in magic, magic gear, and swordsmanship also his past life has played a role in his abilities, it's already stated that the magic in this world works through visualization and the reason his magic is so powerful is because of his job in his past life, there were a few shots that showed he worked in making science books for children so obviously he is going to be picking up a lot of stuff through his work especially since it's so easy to understand, with that knowledge he can create spells more powerful than anyone else, people in his new world will know fire burns and is hot, but he'll understand why it's hot and burns and can change it to be more powerful.

13:29 - It’s never revealed in the anime, but while Merlin and Melida were married they had a son. However he died very young and the two were so heartbroken it was too painful to be together, hence their split. It’s also why they refer to Shin as their grandson, so as to not thoughtlessly replace the child they’d lost.

It was okay until they started tackling his talent vs common sense And his common sense was so out of the window, I just couldn't take the show anymore, esp when he clearly remembers his past life Which is our world, to which common sense should be fairly logical

this is the one single anime where the dub actually sounds better than the sub imo, ive watched it multiple times through both but the dubs VA for shin just matches the voice perfectly to the looks. good to see someone actually react to it though, yall two are a rarity 🙏

Yeah I really wish they had done the reaction to the dub for this one. I get the whole "dubs suck" mentality (to a degree) but in this case, as you said, the dub fits the character way better. Overall I just found the dub to be higher quality than the sub for this series. Solo Leveling was def better in sub (altho dub is great too) but for this one the dub is 100% the better choice.

Correct me if I'm wrong but this anime is what started the trope of modern knowledge makes the mc's magic more powerful. After this anime, you got a lot of anime where the main characters power is his knowledge of modern science allowing for them to create powerful spells, such as heat plus water equals steam leading to a rapid and explosive expansion of gas

I get it, it's not like it's the best anime ever, and it's often called an isekai trash (I despise this term, but it's just me) but it's still pretty good and thus very underrated imo. It was one of my brother's favourite back in the day so I hope you'll enjoy your time watching this. It's when I see uploads like this one that it reminds me how glad I am to have subscribed to this channel. Keep up the good work 🔥!

I don't know if it's in my head or just my own pacing while reading but I felt like the manga had better pacing. I know it was originally a Light Novel so maybe the manga made slight changes to fix that. I definitely prefer the character designs in the manga. They're not drastically different but I prefer the style more. Anyway, I enjoy this series and I hope it eventually gets a second season.

This is an anime I really wanted to like, especially when I saw the animation for the magic. But idk, I guess it was the relationship between the 2 that just bothered me, it felt like it moved way too fast and I didn't really know the girl enough to actually care about her. Part of me wanted her to die just to see him go nuclear with his magic, maybe if her face was more appealing I'd actually be ok with it but it was so plain. I don't know, I think I also dropped the manga because the plot was boring and it annoyed me. Can't remember why, maybe I was burnt out on isekai at that time or something.

Ugh. Most times I get the whole "watch anime in sub" mentality that alot of superfans seem to have but for this show, the dub is just straight up better. The English VA's voice fits the character for Shin much better and overall it's just a really well done dub. Got so excited when it opened in English and then immediately cringed when it was changed to the sub. Honestly not sure if I'll be able to watch the rest of the reactions because I tried the sub and didn't like it myself. Don't want the voices I remember for the chars in my head to start changing from English to Japanese. Major disappointment especially knowing that most of your viewers are likely English speaking and would have enjoyed the dub as well. =/
