"Saoirse" (pronunciation: SUR-shuh) means "freedom". I loved that they titled the song using an Irish word, because it makes the song and the visuals even more epic than it already is. This band never ceases to amaze me. ❤

It's about the resistance of the Celts in Ireland against christianization. Sakis said that the album is about the pagan cultures that existed before Christ (therefore the title of the album "Before Christ" in English). So it's not related (or relatable) to the Irish revolution of the early 20th century, but a much much older occurence when in the 4th/5th century Ireland became Christian.

To be precise, "Saoirse" is pronounced (UK) either /ˈsɪə(ɹ).ʃə/ or /ˈsɜː(ɹ).ʃə/. Using the *IPA* (International Phonetic Alphabet, *see* "Saoirse" on Wiktionary for more) is the _only_ reliable way to write pronunciation, since people who speak different languages "see" written words differently depending on their language, and *English* is an inconsistent disaster when it comes to spelling the words anyway (speech came first)-in English, the _same_ sound may be written with letters in as many as five (or more) different ways, depending on in which word it appears. Also, there are not enough letters (26) in the anglicised *Latin* alphabet for all the sounds in English-depending on which _variant_ of English, that's about 24 consonants and 20 vowels!

@@GenMVeers as a SLP, I'm completely sure about that and I agree with you, 100%. However, not everyone knows how to use the IPA, let alone knowing what sound correspond to each symbol used - hence why I tried to write the pronunciation with an "American-ish" approach. This is hands down the best reaction vid I've ever seen. I can relate to you on the faith thing as I was raised Southern Baptist but never felt connected to it. Shamefully, I used to actively avoid RC just based off of the name. I walked away from my faith in 2010 and a year later I saw RC live for the 1st time. I got to meet Sakis and chat for a minute. I admitted to him that I used to be a person of faith and that I wouldn't listen to his band. He smiled at me and said,"it doesn't matter, you are here now". RC has been my fav band ever since. Thanks for sharing. Keep up the awesome work and stay strong in the face of your struggles.I still have alot if rage as well and its been 14 years. It may take time but you'll temper your anger🤘

I liked everything about this song! The more music I hear from RC the more I want to explore it. My journey with them started with Sakis Tolis' music and my only regret is that I didn't learn of them sooner. Melodic black metal and Gothic metal has a sound that is so different from the other metal sub-genres and it gives me goosebumps. I think it is the minor keys that it is usually written in, along with the bells tolling and the Gregorian Chant style of vocals. Also, thanks for sharing your thoughts - anger and rage are a natural part of the healing process and they will subside over time as you become more accustomed to walking your own chosen path. It's a process, and it takes time. We'll talk about this more.

If I may, I think I sense a kind of struggle on your part, in accepting that you're an atheist, as perhaps it is difficult to reconsile this with the ( I presume) fact that you feel there must be something as there's something spiritual in you that resonates with the idea of the existence of a god. People with high levels of Empathy often struggle with this- my brain says there's a god, but my heart says otherwise, what the frick should I believe? Well, you feel good in you and good in others. The feeling is real- this doesn't mean that it has an external cause, the source is in you. If you act on those feelings, strive to be the best person you can and leave this world with strangers crying in your funeral because the world got a bit poorer without you in it, do you thing that any god would hold a grudge against you for just not believing in him? Would a god be so petty to condemn you to eternal torment because you did good, not because you seeked approval, not because you expected a payback in afterlife, not because you were afraid of eternal punishment, but just because it was the right thing to do and you did it on your own free will? I personally don't care if there's a god or not. I try my best to be an asset to the world and contribute in my small ways, just because it's the right thing to do, it feels good and I'm doing it with or without his help. No god worthing my respect would be offended because I choose to do as much good as I can, as a free person and not as a slave to fear...

@@TheWolffAndTheMelody To be honest, I don't think there's something spiritual out there, the universe seems to function just fine without deities and the rest is just our brains trying to find patterns and explanations as they were evolved to do- it's a bug of our systems, although many could argue that it's a feature,lol! Meanhile, there's a great video by Darkmatter2525 called "The Greater Insult" which captures my approach and to be clear, the video was made long after my beliefs were finalized.

I feel with you about christianity. I have a similar backround. Christianity made everything worse what I grew up with, and I still struggle with the wounds of the past. Funny thing: pagan believes helped me to turn my live around and to fight the hidden indoctrination of the christian faith, to fight for myself, to love and accept myself, no blind obedience, but to ask questions, think for myself. It truly is my personal path to freedom. It is of course not the path for everyone, and each one has to find their own path and way, each own is so unique like the individual person. And I found my spiritual path through music.
