Arkansas is a beautiful state! When I was younger I stayed some time in Russellville. I never made it to Paris, I could imagine it's beauty. We where in a dry county. Staying in a trailer court, Met neighbor s we would get beer , from other town, sit around and play guitars. It was in 1980. I hitchhike later back to Iowa , that's a whole different story. Arkansas is assume!!

I was born in the old Paris hospital in 1956. I used to spend my summers in Paris visiting my maternal grandparents, Joe and Becky Wald. If anyone knows them, or is related to them, give me a shout! I want to come back there again soon, and one day I want to retire there. :-D Loved this video! It sure brought back great memories and taught me new things, too. Oh, and Joe Wald was a coal minor for years!

My mum visited Paris, AR on a business trip and reported that she thought this was the friendliest town she had ever been to--even at the laundromat!

My great, great, great grandparents were freed slaves off the Batson plantation in Paris. Had 80 acres of land there; I wonder what happened to that land?

@@marcusdbatson Mr. Batson, I know I read an article about the founders of Greyrock. I will do some more checking, I still have relative's in that area. Mr Batson, I have been misspelling Gray Rock. I did find some Batson's in the Gray Rock Cemetery. Maybe your kin.

@@dianenecaise1776 I just looked into Greyrock and that IS my family! Sarah (Byrd) I have in my family tree, along with the Titsworths. Johnanna Titsworth married Andrew Batson, and they are my great-great-great paternal grandparents. They had Thomas, who had Norman, who had Thomas (grandfather), who had Thomas (my father).

@@marcusdbatson Mr. Batson, I would bet, there are some people around there that remember and could tell you a lot about your family. I remember going to the Coal Mine Museum and I casually mentioned someone I went to grade school with, she knew him and the family. Told me how he died. I am so glad you have made the connection. The Jail House Museum might be able to give you more information.
