Hoyte van Hoytema a legend, wally pfister was also a legendary cinematographer working with Nolan before Hoyte. But he didn't use imax as much as Hoyte, That's the only difference we are seeing in Nolan films from interstellar, Hoyte is ready to use imax for even the smallest shot. Wally pfister used to prefer the workflow efficiency of less cumbersome cameras. But he defined the style of Nolan films for all the other films from memento, Dark knight, Inception, prestige etc. He was in a league of his own. Our loss he retired from Cinematography.

My favorite ratios: 1.85:1 - Great and historic compromise between width and height. It can show tall things like buildings or gigantic stature creatures and focused close-ups with great precision, but without sacrificing width beyond what is necessary, which is wide enough for certain movies, no longer having that “boxy” appearance of narrow ratios; 2.00:1- Used with some frequency nowadays, it is similar to the previous one but with a slightly more "epic" scope, while also featuring a very considerable height; 2.20:1 - Very wide and epic, focuses on the environment and shows grand and dramatic panoramas; 2.35:1/2.39:1 - It’s like a version of the previous one, but with a little more steroids. It is, for me, the pinnacle of epic and vast frames. Below 1.85 and above 2.39 I don't like it because then the frame starts to become either narrow or low in height.
