This is what it takes to marry a Nigerian girl
I received the dowry list signed by her father
I need to purchase yam, cola nut, alligator pepper, palm oil and even a LIVE GOAT! And not just one yam or pepper - large quantities. The list is 39 items in total.
In this video I will be visiting the bulk food markets to gather everything I need to complete this list before the marriage.
These items are symbolic like the bottle of honey meaning our marriage will forever be sweet, yam as a symbol of fertility and prosperity, and an umbrella signifying my role as a protector for my wife.
It is a lot of things, but it is worth it for Adenike. She is Yoruba but all the tribes practice dowries though with different items and traditions around it.
Thank you to Eunice of @AboutConsumables for helping me with this list. Her page: / aboutconsumables

Requirements differ from each tribe. In my tribe for instance no animal or fish, oil is required in the list. It is more of clothes, drinks and money. No eatable item on the list.

This was beautiful and enlightening to watch😊 I love how you were actively part of the purchase of all the dowry items, it shows how much you value the bride. The bride list and bride price is not as though the family is selling their daughter but to see how much of the intending groom's commitment to their daughter. Well done Chris and congratulations on your marriage!

The alligator peppers have red covering in its natural state. These ones have been dried up to last longer. The seeds are like black pepper when grounded, but more peppery with a different flavor. Traditionally eaten with kolanuts.

Bro, you are being generic. Nigeria has over 250 ethnic groups and marriage requirements differ amongst all of them, even if they are in same state. You married a Yoruba girl, hence, your caption should be more specific. Congratulations on your marriage 😊
