The charts got broken in the last years. It's no longer CDs sold and as a result there are a lot of songs now at the top of the charts that work well with the metrics that replaced CD purchases, but it feels to me, that they don't really represent the reality of what people listen to.

Except the other recommendations dont sleep on "Bosse", "Herbert Grönemeyer", "Clueso", "Annenmaykantereit" - these are a bit slower and emotional and "RIN" and bands like "Moop Mama", Nina Chuba", "KUMMER", KIZ" - these are most likely rap acts. All of them have a lot to say and express a lot through their lyrics in very unique ways and with incredible unique sounds. And I think that these acts also represent germanys music taste from this period and above a bit more.

Things have been quiet around Mark Foster since he became a father. But he's a great artist with good songs. I recommend listening to "Chöre". Meanwhile, our favourite German star in the rap scene is "Apache 207". Rammstein is always worth responding to! This band is popular all over the world :) Good Video!

I feel like most Germans are very casual about Mark Foster. Never met someone that is a hardcore fan of him, but the opposite doesn't really seem to exist either. For most he was just a huge part of our childhoods/teenage years and his songs were on the radio one too many times. He's the type of guy whose concert you would go to just because, you know? Recently he's been a bit more quiet, but he still does stuff. Many also know him from the Voice, where he was one of the coaches for a long time.

As a german these 10 years are basically lost to me. There is such a decline in music quality in music worldwide and it feels even more so in germany. Songs have become very schematic (and kind of boring a lot of times) causing me to not bother anymore. As a result I actually do not know quite a lot of these songs despite being a full time german. If you look at similar videos from other decades you will notice quite a bit of songs that are known in the US or worldwide. I understand the market is different nowadays, but aside from some megaacts like Rammstein almost no one makes a splash somewhere else

I'll recommend Henning May, his voice is insane. (Unheilig too) Otherwise, as some already said here: Seeed, Toten Hosen, Sido or Electric Callboy

I feel like towards the mid 2010s German pop just kinda got lost in a whole bunch of kitsch and generic edm, and didn't really adapt well to the changing trends of the time. Most people seem to laser-focus on the whole rap thing, but I think the decline started when German pop just failed to be all that compelling. And then with streaming, I think there was a lot of fracturing in demographics, while rap always had quite a strong, consolidated base of loyal consumers. Also, people act like there wasn't anything great after the mainstream success of rap, but I feel artists like Apache 207 or Juju are real standouts.

imo, mark forster is a bit like nickelback, he has a consistent style, that can seem repetitive and boring in a majority of his songs, if you aren't a fan of it.
